We just spent three nights in the Johnston Terrace apartment with our three kids. It is a superb location- minutes from the front gate of Edinburgh Castle. It was super warm and cozy. Lovely views of the Edinburgh old town. There was a little bit of noise from the street below- bottles/bin trucks. Would recommend for a family as child...

We have just returned from a girls weekend in the castle terrace apartment. From the start to the end we had a great time Derek was there to meet us and show us around and tell us everything we needed to no. It is a very well equipped apartment ( I say apartment but it's more a town house) with...

We were there in August 2016 to see Edinburgh and the Tattoo and we couldn't have had a better location. The apartment is right at the foot of the hill that approaches Edinburgh Castle. The apartment was HUGE, 2 large bedrooms, a large living room and large kitchen. Some of the overall appointments were outdated by modern standards, but this...

Very well located apartment in the city centre (castle terrace) and close to all amenities. The staff were helpful and replied promptly to our emails. The apartment was large enough to cater for our family. Overall, we found this a great apartment but we found aspects of the apartment less positive. The overall state of the bathrooms were very poor...

Stayed at Johnstone Terrace apartment for 2 nights on a girly weekend. Absolutely loved it. The apartment was in a fantastic location, it was beautiful inside and so spacious. All the facilities you need and so lovely and warm! It was quiet at night considering it looks out over grassmarket. Brid met us at the apartment early at about 1pm,...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

“I think there are two flats from Greyfriars in this building. I can only speak to the 2 bedroom, 2 bath. It was absolutely outstanding. Definitely recommend.”

“These are self catering apartments, so are not a hotel per se.But if you are only a couple and in the 2 bedroom apartment, sleep in the front room near the side of the castle - the back rooms overlooking the market are even louder...but the double glazing helps a lot - but needs to be shut to work!!”
