Myself and my girlfriend stayed at the Castle View Guest House during our long weekend away to Edinburgh in December 2018 for my 18th birthday. We don’t think we could have picked a better location to stay during our visit to this beautiful city. Our room was quiet, clean (everyday) and cosy, and the breakfast was superb!
We especially loved the Scottish breakfast and were delighted to be able to try haggis! (You can not go to Scotland and not try this signature food).
Edinburgh has since become our favourite city break, as well as being our first, and when we return in the future, we’ll be staying at the Castle View Guest House without a question!

A wee door on a main street belies the charm of this lovely inn. Eleanor, the proprietor, could not have made us feel more at home. While waiting for our room she brought us a pot of coffee and a plate of cakes. The breakfast room is sunny and bright with an excellent view of the castle. The selection of breakfast items is large and delicious. I highly recommend this inn to anyone wishing a convenient location in the city.

We can't say enough about our positive experiences at the Castleview. Eleanor was a fabulous hostess. She went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. The breakfast was very good as well. She's also very knowledgeable about inverness And the surrounding area.

To put this review into context, I do not have overly high expectations and usually as long as somewhere is clean I am happy and have never left a poor review before!
However….this accommodation is not as described and I suspect may have changed a great deal since some photos/reviews.
This accommodation is not staffed and there are no staff on site, so no reception etc.
On arrival we were given a number to enter the building along with the room number and another number to access the room key.
On arrival our room was in fact spotlessly clean and in that respect brilliant, but there were no tea/coffee products as stated in the description and more worrying was no toilet paper! I contacted the number we had been given to call if we had any issues and was advised that the products would be delivered the following morning and if I needed toilet paper I should go and buy some.
Our bed on the booking information was described as a large double, in fact it was only a 4’6” bed but more concerning was that inside the double duvet cover was a single duvet!!
There were large bags of dirty laundry on all of the landings, the fire alarm panel was flashing fault and a door was being propped open by a fire extinguisher.
Needles to say our toilet roll and tea products didn’t arrive the next day and overall I really wouldn’t recommend a stay!
That said the location was brilliant!

The only redeeming feature about this place is that it’s central. Beyond that, it was lovely retry terrible. No staff, was not given key codes, Wi-fi didn’t work, no tea or coffee - not even a glass for water, hot water coming out of cold tap, single bed. I could go on. The premier inn would have been better and cheaper

This was an excellent choice for my wife and I. Located about one half block off of Princess Street, in the New Town area of Edinburgh, this "guest house" was very well located and within walking distance to all of the major attractions. The rooms were spotless and well appointed. Each morning breakfact was made to order. You could choose from a traditional Scotish breakfast or any combination or serveral other items. Our hosts were awesome and very helpful in assisting us around the City. The only drawback was the three flights of stairs to get to the guest house. It is not for the faint of heart, but for us, considering the level of comfort and and service received, we would stay here again in a heartbeat.

I stayed in the Highland Room, a single with ensuite bathroom for 45 GBP (around $80US), the off season rate since it was January 2006.

Room-the single was spacious enough, plenty of room to move around and for my luggage. The bed was fine, there's a small TV inside the room and tea service. The Highland Room does not have a view of Edinburgh Castle. The room is cleaned daily.

Bathroom-the bathroom was en suite, not shared like many guest houses which is a definite plus for me. The water pressure wasn't terrific but there was plenty of hot water. Toiletries provided were soap, shampoo and bath gel, towels are replaced daily.

Breakfast-one of the highlights of the Castle View is the breakfast, you can start off with a full Scottish breakfast or several other choices, I had bacon and scrambled eggs both morning along with toast and tea, a terrific way to start out a long day of touring.

The owners were as nice as can be, Coranne made me breakfast each morning and was delightful and I was greeted by Derek who kindly hauled my luggage up the last flight of stairs. You can come and go as you please, they give you keys to all of the doors and your room is locked during the day.

Restaurants nearby-recommended-Fisher's in the City on Thistle, three I didn't get to try but came recommended, La Tasca (Spanish), Centotre (Italian) and Mussel Inn (seafood). And there are a bunch of places along Rose Street.

A word of caution-the guest house is located on the 3rd and 4th floor of a small office building and there is no elevator and no bellhop to help you with your luggage. They fully advise you of this when you book with them, if you can't carry your luggage up 3 flights of stairs, this is not the place for you.

And for someone making a brief 2 1/2 day stop in Edinburgh, the location was not as good as I had thought, I spent most of my time over near the Royal Mile so every day I had to hike up the hill to get to the Royal Mile. It was convenient for the Airbus from the airport, I got off at the West End stop and walked about 10-15 minutes to get to the Castle View. There are bus routes along Princes Street however if you're not up for the hike every morning.

The Castle View Guest House was a great place to stay in Edinburgh. I chose it from the reviews at Tripadvisor and they were right on. Great location, clean, very nice rooms. The only drawback was the stairs, which while we didn't mind them, would be a considerable hinderance for some.
The owners were not very visible, but breakfast was wonderful and the view of Edinburgh castle was outstanding!

My family of four stayed here for two nights in May 2004 and had a very pleasant experience. The hosts kept a low profile but were available to answer questions and organize a very delicious full breakfast with plenty of options. The main drawback, as with many Edinburgh B&B's, is the three flights of stairs you must climb to reach the entrance from street level. However, the price, pristine and well-decorated bedrooms, and great view of the castle (ask for the Burns Room!) definitely make it worthwhile.

The B&B is about 15 minutes northwest of Waverly Station on foot, and almost directly north of Edinburgh Castle.
