Never, and I mean never plan an event here So COIVD, am I right? We had to, as many have had to, cancel our plans for our wedding (should have been July 2020). This space was to host our morning after breakfast. We chose it for it's location (all other events were to take place on the Mile or in New Town, and we wanted to give our guests a change of scenery. Mistake. The red flags should have started when they listed an insane amount for a buffet, but I figured we were essentially paying for a view. The second...and bigger red flag should have been that the staff kept rotating. I think I've worked with 3 or 4 people this year, as the last person was "no longer with Apex". Wonder why? OK anyway, we wanted to included a mimosa station..you would have thought I was asking for the moon and stars. We eventually settled on 6$ GBP per mimosa. 8 friggin USD a mimosa. But still, it was our wedding so YOLO. Then COVID. Every. EVERY other venue and vendor, including the frigging SIGNET on the ROYAL MILE issued a refund. Not Apex! "oh you can have a refund if thing's aren't better by next June". You're a wedding venue as per your literature, guys. You MUST know how weddings work. We can't just split decided that things are back on a few weeks moths out, and honestly I'm not asking or expecting folks to feel more comfortable traveling next year. Nice enough spot (if you like climbing up a million stairs or huge hill to get to the Mile every day, horrible management. Don't patronize these guys, you're sure to be hit with some hidden fee/pay too much for what you're getting. There are far better hotels and locations in Edinburgh.…
We were unable to stay at Apex Grassmarket Edinburgh because of the latest Covid restrictions. Sadly even though the situation was not of our doing we were unable to recover any refund whatsoever. It’s bad enough to not have our long awaited family get together because of Covid but to get no refund is absolutely unacceptable. Hotels.com approached the Manager and was told that we would not be receiving any part of our money back. Very disappointing
Would visit again. Restaurant wasn't too great, but overall experience was nice. Receptionist was lovely. Waiting staff were nice enough but we had to ask for cutlery for our dinner, after Waiting for the 2 staff noticing us with our hand up, there were only 3 tables in so it shouldn't have been hard to get their attention but they were having a conversation. The room can't be faulted although i would suggest looking at the heating, we had to leave the window open all night because it was very warm and that in turn meant a lot of traffic noise.The rest of the hotel was clean and beautiful.
We got married in edinburgh a few weeks ago and used this hotel to stay at. It was such a lovely hotel, upon arrival we checked in, it was all very covid professional, we used a new pen rather than a used one and details taken. The man at front desk was very helpful when we asked where the city chambers were. Very friendly. When we got to our room, we couldn't get over the view of the castle, it was amazing. We had a balcony as well which we are able to take pictures on in our wedding outfits. The bed was huge and so was the room and bathroom. It was very comfortable. The room was cleaned every day. Any time we seen staff in the corridor they always greated with such warmth. Even though the hotel bar was closed we were able to order room service, which was great. We had breakfast each morning. A good selection on the menu. It was table service but you could still order quite a bit. The food was fresh and yum. Good start to the day. The restaurant staff were also friendly taking time to chat to us. Thank you for a lovely and safe stay. We hope to visit again when edinburgh as fully opened …
Today’s afternoon tea at the Apex Grassmarket was fantastic. So fresh and everything home made. Portion sizes large and delicious sandwiches generously filled. Home made scones and cakes all presented beautifully. We couldn’t finish it so were offered a box to take the rest home 😊 The staff could teach a thing or two on what excellent customer service should be too! Efficient, welcoming, friendly service and nothing too much trouble. Look forward to visiting again very soon.
