Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I arrived at this hotel in the early hours of the morning after a delayed flight into Edinburgh Airport (note: no problem at all in catching a taxi at the airport at gone midnight and the cost of the taxi to the hotel was just over £30). The night reception staff dealt with my late check-in very efficiently. My room was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and just what I needed after a long journey. I liked that there was bottled water in the room and the large walk in shower was lovely. Breakfast was busy but had a good selection of food and the restaurant staff were helpful and friendly. I will stay here again.

Hotel's Favourite
This hotel was a lucky find! The location is SPOT on, service is great, rooms are spacious. My only complaint is that there is no AC (I know, I'm really letting my American show) but with the windows open in the evening and fan on with curtains closed during the day, it was very tolerable. I purchased the option with breakfast included - what a value! I could eat an amazing breakfast and be good for the large part of the day. The location made so many highlights walkable. The last day of my trip I did 22k steps! But Royal Mile is maybe a 5-10 minute walk, Grassmarket is a couple of blocks away, parks nearby, restaurants nearby, express market around the corner. If/When I return, I will definitely stay here again.

I spent a weekend at Novotel Hotel early February with my family from Slovakia. We had an amazing stay at Executive Room with a beautiful view for Edinburgh Castle. The room was comfortable and very clean. We were impressed by hotel facilities- especially with pool and jacuzzi. We had a beautiful decorations made by hotel staff member- Annie. Thank you for it. Staff at front desk were very helpful and friendly. Also we had a Fish and Chips at hotel restaurant and it was the best fish we ever ate. We will definitely come back.

Friendly staff, rooms where clean however bathroom was a little bit dated and rough around the edges. Toilet was separate and with suffering from back issues I found it hard as it was cramped. Bed was OK . Swimming pool was great, plenty of towels pool side. There is a changing / locker room. No separate cubicals so make sure to come down ready. Thank you Novotel and thank you to the staff!

We stayed here for three nights in February. We had an executive queen room with a view of Edinburgh castle, the room was clean, modern and spacious. The staff were really friendly and informative. I didn't get the name of the man who checked us in, but he was so helpful! They have a pool, sauna and jacuzzi - there is a waiting list for it though, I think it's no more than about 16 people in there at a time, however the staff were very kind and phoned up to our room if space became available. We went during half term so the pool was very crowded with kids, so I didn't get to use the pool, but my partner used the sauna each morning. The hotel is a short 10 minute walk from the centre, everything was in walking distance and there were plenty of local restaurants around. We would definitely use this hotel again!

Just returned from a short break in Edinburgh with my husband and daughter. The hotel is in a great location, just a short walk from the grassmarket. There is a bus stop just over the rod which we used to visit the zoo. Staff at the hotel are welcoming and helpful. We used the pool every day which was a great addition, especially having a young child with us. We were particularly impressed with the breakfast, there was such a great selection. The waffle maker went down a treat! Would definitely stay here again.

I've given 4 stars because I really enjoyed my stay and would have given 5 if it weren't for the 'quirks'. First of all it is a beautiful hotel, a lovely room and the staff were nice too. Breakfast was amazing, with the waffle maker making a delightful additon to the usual buffet breakfast. The spa is lovely and was very relaxing despite being busy at times. Sadly, I think whoever designed the hotel and its facilities have not stayed there or thought it through enough. The toilet was in a separate room to the shower which on the face of it, seems a good idea however the toilet cubicle is tiny so you have to back in almost, it has no sink or bin and you have to go through two doors to wash your hands in the room with the shower. The toilet is also lit with one small led bulb, and when you close the door, you are plunged into darkness for a second. It's quite claustrophobic. The pool is lovely but has no private areas to change, only a tiny communal area, meaning no privacy. There is also no toilets in the pool area. To access the toilet, you had to wrap yourself in a towel and go out of the pool area, and run along the corridor. Unfortunately, I had to do this, only to discover the keycard only works once and does not let you back into the pool, so there I was stranded and soaking wet. Luckily, my husband was in the pool, and I chapped the glass, and he had to let me in through the gents, which was all highly embarrassing and completely unnecessary. I would have been so annoyed if he hadn't been there and I was locked out. Lastly, the pool keycard is the same as the room keycard, so you can guess what I accidentally did. I was stood soaking in a long queue at reception to get another room key, totally, mortified while everyone in front of me checked out and settled bills while I stood in a towel. It would have been nice for staff to recognise my situation a bit quicker to save me further embarrassment instead of me having to rely on some kind soul letting me go in front of them. I would return to this hotel now I am aware of these things and would make sure I don't get caught out again, but as someone who works daily with architects, the design and functionaliality astounds me.

We booked this hotel for a family weekend to celebrate a birthday. From the beginning of the booking process, things did not go smoothly. We booked via the Central Booking System (on the phone) and this took a long time to get the booking sorted. 16 emails later and we were booked - 3 nights in Novotel Edinburgh Centre, with B&B and car parking. We were given a price for the stay and were looking forward to our break. On arrival, we pulled up at the car park and pressed the buzzer, only to be told that we were not booked in. I explained that we were and that we also had a car parking space booked. I gave my booking number. After a good 10 mins of the staff trying to find my booking, they realised that we were booked in at Novotel Edinburgh Park for one night and then Novotel Edinburgh Centre for the following 2 nights. I had NO knowledge of this. But, we were here now and wanted to make the birthday weekend special. Off we went to the different hotel. The hotel was lovely and the staff were really nice - the birthday girl had a drink, chocolate bar and card waiting in her bedroom for her. However, when we got up in the morning, we were told that we did not have breakfast booked. After searching through my 16 confirmation emails, I managed to find the one for breakfast and all was well (again). We then packed our bags and drove to the next hotel, where we were informed that you were unable to pre-book parking and that parking is first come, first served - yet I had an email to say parking was booked for the 3 nights. However, I was then informed that 3 nights parking had been booked for Novotel Edinburgh Park - that's no good for us, when we were spending 2 nights at the Edinburgh Centre!! Anyway, after getting that sorted, we went to our room and unpacked. In the morning, when we went down for breakfast, we were told that breakfast was not included. I explained that I booked 3 night B&B and showed the email. They said that the price quoted didn't include breakfast, even though the email said it was included. We were told that we would have to pay extra for breakfast for the 2 nights. By now, as you can imagine, I was feeling very fed up and let down by the lady on the phone at the Central Booking Office. When we eventually checked out of the hotel, we had to pay quite a lot more than we were told on the phone when we booked the hotel. We asked to speak to the manager, but were given an email address for Accor. When arriving home, I emailed Accor, who after 3-4 emails, forwarded our email to a 'higher department'. I was asked to provide my bank statements to show the payments made and now, 4 weeks after the last email communication, no one is replying to me. I send an email every week and not one replies. There is not phone number I can call and the when I speak to the hotel they say that they can not help me and I need to email. BUT THEY ARE NOT REPLYING TO ME! The hotel (S) were OK; the booking process was very stressful and the communication / customer care is terrible. Accor / Novotel Edinburgh, Please look after your customers better.
