Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The house, the rooms, the hosts and especially the breakfast are very nice. This shows why breakfast is part of the acronym B&B. The hosts are very helpful, kind with endowed with lots of humor. The location is perfect especially for people visiting the university or if you want to take a walk on the beautiful blackford Hill. The city center and the translation is also very near with the bus. Thank you so much for this stay.

Duncan and Elaine are so unbelievably welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The breakfast served by Elaine was delicious and they always come up for a chat in the morning to make you feel at home. The rooms and toilets were immaculate and beautiful. The bed was one of the most comfortable that I have slept in compared to most hotels and B&Bs. Blue (the most beautiful cat ever) was such a lovely companion that makes your day!

Delightfully refined. A Victorian house tastefully refurbished. I enjoyed a two night stay here as part of a visit to Edinburgh University. The hosts are super friendly and helpful in every way when I asked for directions and places to eat for dinner. My double room was immaculate and well furnished. Brilliant breakfast too. Definitely look forward to a return visit one day. I also ate at the nearby Old Bell which was also superb.

Stayed one night with my daughter who had a Japanese exam in Edinburgh. Really pleased that this place was available as it had a lovely homely feel. Very clean throughout. Breakfast was fresh and tasty with plenty of variety. Only 15 minutes into the city by bus. Will try and stop here again when the next exam comes up. Thank you for being accommodating to our very anxious 15 year old who struggles in social situations.

Immaculately clean, warm, comfortable, and with cosy decor. The hosts are super friendly and helpful. They even had the fire lit at breakfast time which was a very nice touch. Excellent location for the University and nearby shops and good wifi.

Stayed for one night, paid for by the university, for an interview. The rooms was spacious and comfortable and the owners were very friendly and charming. The house was very quiet and is only 15 minutes from town by bus. Thoroughly recommended.

Beautiful house. Our room was on the second floor facing the back so was very quiet. Bed very comfortable and everything was spotless and luxurious. Excellent breakfast and enjoyed Duncan's banter at breakfast. You can find cheaper B&B in the same area but Glendale was worth the bit extra and would highly recommend it.

I stayed once in 2011 and again in 2016. The location is not great, as in you may get woken up by traffic, but otherwise, the place is excellent. The property (as much of Mayfield) is full of character, with wonderful garden and a wide variety of period features. Unlike in 2011, the place looks very lovingly maintained, with all new carpeting etc. As in 2011, the hosts are most friendly and the breakfast is what would you expect (plus excellent lemon curd). Overall, very much recommended.

I stayed at Glendale House for four nights when I went to various Edinburgh Festival events. My room (Lomond) was spacious and quiet. Good shower and excellent breakfasts. Duncan and Elaine are gracious hosts. The house is opposite Cameron Toll shopping centre which has a decent size Sainsbury's along with a selection of high street shops. It's a 45 minute or so walk from the house to the city centre, but if you don't fancy that there are very frequent buses from just around the corner - £1.60 single, £4 for a day pass. If coming by car, Glendale House can be reached easily from the ring road and parking is available at the house itself or round the corner.

We stayed at Glendale as the first part of our honeymoon tour of Scotland. We arrived very late due to travel problems but our hosts were very understanding and helpful and when we eventually arrived made us feel very welcome. The house is beautiful with a rose garden in front and lovely Scottish decor throughout. We were very comfortable in our room and we also enjoyed the large collection of DVDs available to guests. The house has very good travel links to the center of Edinburgh. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again when back in Edinburgh.
