Our room was comfortable and adequate, staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The hotel is a bit dated but we found that part of it's charm. It was ideally situated for us, a short walk to Princes Street and to a large number of excellent eating places. Would stay here again though the lack of a lift is certainly an...

We had a 2 night stay. Cannot fault the staff as they went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is very outdated and requires a revamp. We stayed on the top floor... 3 floors up with no lift. There was wall paper peeling off the walls in our rooms and very old fashioned wood...

Stayed here for one night recently with my granddaughter for shopping trip to Edinburgh. Very helpful staff, no lift so my case was carried up to our room. Lovely clean room, had everything we needed, particularly plenty of heat on a bitterly cold night. I booked a twin room and we had a single bed and large double (king?) bed,...

We recently stayed here using a Groupon voucher. Wasn't sure what to expect but were pleased with the welcome we received from the staff. Nothing was a problem to them: they were so pleasant and helpful. The hotel rooms were very large with high ceilings, and whilst the décor was a little dated, the bed was very comfortable. The hotel...

The hotel is within walking distance (15-20 mins) of old/new town of Edinburgh. The staff are very friendly/accommodating. The rooms were a bit dull and are in need of some redecorating/painting. Would recommend.

Stayed here for 1 night with a 5PM deal. Nice, friendly hotel in a lovely area handy for Princes St shopping and pubs etc on George St. Room was on the 3rd floor and there was no lift but not a problem for us really. Breakfast was nice, had to pay a bit extra for full English option rather than...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
