Neighbourhood
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.

Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we do appreciate all feedback we receive. We are located right in heart of bustling Edinburgh so on occasion their can be some street noise, as you mentioned you did relay this to the on duty receptionist who offered you the alternative Master Suite for your second night, I am glad this was a good option for you. I hope you had an enjoyable birthday in Edinburgh and got to explore the city. Kind regards, Samuel

Firstly, the staff are nice and the finish is boutique and expensive. Nothing had to say there. We were given a lovely big room with an amazing view to the rear of the building. The decor is modern and it feels very executive. Now for the downside. If you are on the top floor

Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and for your feedback. Loch Fyne is one of my favourite rooms, as you mention is does have a beautiful view as it is on the third floor. As you mentioned we do not have an elevator on site as we are a listed building - over 200 years old, our reception area is manned 24hrs and our staff will always carry luggage for guests. We are a small Boutique Hotel in a Georgian Townhouse so all rooms are slightly different design wise, the room you stayed in has a bath and wet room style shower, whilst it does not have a door it is enclosed from the bed / seating area, and as you mentioned the toilet is completely separate with its own private door. I am saddened you found the bed uncomfortable, all of our mattresses are luxury brand mattresses. I hope you had an enjoyable time in Edinburgh. Kind regards, Samuel

Good afternoon, Superior rooms are the smaller of our rooms in the hotel and are located on the 1st and 2nd floor. Executive rooms offer our guests that little bit more space to relax, unwind and pamper in the comfort of the luxurious surroundings and are located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of our Georgian Townhouse. Kind regards, Reception
