Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

the location of motel one is perfect for touring edinburgh, i would say the best of all the places to stay. right between old and new edinburgh. central to everything and minutes away from royal mile. the rooms are nice and housekeeping service is good but the bathrooms lack in shower supplies and no facecloths provided. they have no parking so you have to pay to park 15 mins away at a daily rate but they do give you a code to apply a discount. the 15 pounds per day breakfast is not worth it , they’re are plenty of places nearby but the bar and bartenders are great. the front desk are not very friendly or helpful but if you can get by that, great place to choose at an affordable cost.

Hotel's Favourite
This is a great no frills but very pleasant place to stay if you want to tour the Old Town, very close to the Royal Mile. The hotel is clean, bright and well maintained. The breakfast was good - no hot food (except oatmeal) and lots of cold options -- pastries, hard boiled eggs, fruit, etc. -- plenty to fuel us for a morning of walking about. Beds were comfortable. Important tip: turn right from the front door of the hotel and walk up the road to the Royal Mile if you want to avoid the VERY long set of steps you'd have take if you went right.

Very good room, they accommodated us to add a kids bed for our son who joined the trip last minute. Adequate amenities in the room. Good hot water and shower pressure. Comfy bar area, drinks pricey but to be expected. Good continental style breakfast. Would have been nice for a cooked option but can't fault what was available.

Lovely staff, amazing views over Princes Street, in City View Room. Central to everything. Located next to train station and at the bottom of the famous Cockburn Street, with Harry Potter shops and lots of cafes for breakfast and brunch, just next to the Royal Mile.

Recently spent 2 night at the Motelone Royal. I had a wonderful stay. Room was ready for check in at noon. The room was very clean and updated. I was on the 6th floor in a room with no view. I didn’t see the need to pay for the view when I was out exploring all day. The hotel is in a great location. 10 minute walk to all the sites I planned to see - Castle, Hop on Hop Off stop, museum, meeting point for my walking tours, and Airport bus stop. Would book to stay again if ever in Edinburgh.

Lovely hotel with the train station just a minute or two walk away. Great location and many things to do and see within walking distance. Staff were nice and we got the room a little earlier than standard check in time which was great. We booked double with limited view and on arrival it was a little smaller than expected with a sky window, we did request to move rooms (no fault of the hotel) and this was done straight away, second room (room 319, i have attached a picture of our view from the window ) was much better but just one thing was the window was looking out onto devil's advocate alley, which we wernt overly bothered about but we did have to keep to curtains shut due to it being busy and people could just see in, there is also a bar mid way up the alley so there was some noise from that throughout the night into the early morning. I would suggest the window needed frosting or blocking from the outside so passes by arent able to see in. The noise from the pub did disturb us slightly however wouldn't put us off staying again but would book a room with a view.
