Travelled here alone for a night and had a great time. Made a bunch of freinds in the hostel and all went for bunch of drinks, showed me all the haunts in Edinburgh. Would come here again definitely! In a great location within walking distance of everywhere

The location was great, close to everything you'd want to see in Edinburgh. Great deals in the pub downstairs as well. The beds were extremely squeaky whenever anyone moved - had a very hard time sleeping with all the noise. The breakfast was okay - just toast and cereal. Wifi worked fine but there weren't enough outlets in the rooms....

Malone's is in a fantastic location in Edinburgh's old town. The promotions in the pub for guests are great, and can make the stay extra fun. Beds are fine, but rooms are a bit stinky if the window is left closed. Kitchen and breakfast are alright, and bathrooms are clean.

We stopped at Malones Hostel for my Stag weekend in July. It was an excellent base for the weekend. We had one whole dormitory to ourselves. The beds were clean and surprisingly very comfortable. There is a communal shower area which is very clean and in good condition. Can't complain about the complimentary breakfast and the staff were all friendly....

Malone's has a good location, 5-10 minutes' walking distance from the Royal Mile, 15 minutes to Waverley Bridge for train and airport bus connections, and 20 minutes to the bus station. It is a simple but perfectly functional accommodation, with helpful staff. Good value overall and great if you don't mind roughing it out "backpacker-style."

The pictures on the webpage don't show accurately the current condition of the facility. The mattresses are used out and smelly. If one of the people sleeping in the bunk bed slightly moves, the whole bedstead moves as well. Unfortunately, the are not enough sockets in the room either, which was very annoying when everyone had to charge their phones...

My friend and I had the chance to get a special price offer which is why we only paid about 8p per person, I guess (cannot exactly remember). We stayed for one night and really enjoyed the place, i.e. the location of the hostel, the pub downstairs, the light dorms and bathrooms which were both very clean. And the breakfast...

This is a very nice hostel if you're on a budget trip and just need a bed. My friend and I arrived an hour early, but this wasn't a problem. Friendly staff brought us to our dorm room and informed us about the hostel rules, best part: 50% off in the pub downstairs! We slept at the world themed room...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
