Love staying at No.53... The beds are probably one of the comfiest that I have slept in, memory foam & crisp linen a good nights sleep is always guaranteed. The B&B is located in a townhouse just off George Street, the accommodations reception is on the 2nd floor of the building & rooms are between a couple of floors ...... More

Great location, easy 10 min walk from Waverley. Very clean and pleasant rooms, well stocked with coffee etc. Great breakfast in Ricks next door. Just bear in mind the rooms are up two flights of stairs, which we didn't find a problem.

Really glad to have booked this place for a recent stay in Edinburgh. We usually stay near the old town, but chose this place initially as it was conveniently sited near where we needed to be. The price was also a good incentive. The staff were very accommodating as well as maintained good communications with us, especially as we had... More

Katie and David could not have been more helpful. Rooms were large, clean and there was also use of a comfortable lounge and free WiFi. Lots of steps up to the accommodation and no lift so not good for those who can't manage stairs. Breakfast is in the bar in the basement of the building and was a buffet with... More

Stayed here for just the one night but will come back again in the future. Got the tram from the airport to Princes Street - then just a 5 minute walk to the B and B. Met on the stairs by David and shown personally to the room on the top floor. Lovely big room, big bed and new clean... More

I only stayed one night in this quirky hotel a stone's throw from arguably Edinburgh's best shopping street. The entrance to the building at street level is somewhat dingy and not very welcoming, and the five short flights of stairs are not for the faint hearted with lots of luggage. This is outweighed significantly by the warm welcome waiting when... More

I had a short stay at 53 Frederick Street but a great one. The room was generously proportioned with a well designed new en-suite bathroom. David and Katy were fantastic hosts, could not have been more helpful. Finally, great breakfast to finish off a great stay. I would recommend this place to anyone and look forward to staying here again... More

We have just returned from a FABULOUS 3 night stay with David & Katy at their beautiful B&B. The rooms are very clean & well maintained with the added bonus of new memory foam mattresses - there was no creaking when turning over or getting in & out of bed. David & Katy are just great - albeit a very... More

Great place to stay, will be recommending and will be back. Staff were helpful and the location is in the middle of everything. The breakfast at Ricks was good too. After comparing a lot of prices for a 2 night stay with breakfasts nothing came close to the price I got for No 53. For Thanks!

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
