We booked this restaurant for our team Christmas dinner. We pre ordered our food from the Christmas menu. The choice was really good. The food was good quality and it was very reasonably priced. Keep it in mind if you are in the gyle shopping nicer than the food court. It also has a pool table and suitable for coffee...

I don't really know what all of the bad reviews are about, the Ritz is an old styled hotel, of course the rooms and the decor is going to be dated, that's the style of the hotel!!! we had the room number 2 on the first floor, the room was so spacious we actually never had a room this big....

Half expected the worst having read some of the reviews. We had booked as it was within easy walking distance of Princes Street and the Hogmanay Street Party. Yes it is dated and could do with a bit of a makeover, but the rooms were fine, the bed was comfortable (although the duvet needs replacing as it was badly worn),...

The hotel is located near Haymarket station so has great transport connections to the city. We arrived a little early hoping to just drop off our bags with reception and head into town for some lunch, we were kindly told that our room was ready and we could have it early, one quirk about this hotel being old style is...

Arrived expecting the absolute worst but to be fair it was ok...you get exactly what you pay for. I thought our room was adequate clean enough, hot water, beds were reasonably comfortable, facilities to make tea or coffee. The staff were very nice and chatty and they let us leave our stuff free of charge when we checked where some...

1 star is too generous! the bed was broken, there was Damp on the walls in the bathroom, a massive stain on the carpet and the towels had some kind of bleach like stain on them. All of this i could probably put up with if it wasnt for the fact i've got a chest infection from it and we...

I just want to say after reading all the reviews that this place is no where near as bad as people make out. I was greated by the legend Danish man who was very helpful. The stairs are a great workout to the top floor, but the carpet and staircase was magnificent to look at. The rooms were nice but...

Pros: Breakfast is ok, service is perfect, location is good and close to the subway, and room was quiet. Cons: Outdated, dirty, hot water didn't work, room is not comfortable (i.e. nowhere to put the towels, mattress quality), and in general it looks filthy, so you don't want to touch anything.

I really dont think this hotel deserves all those bad reviews it has. We did not know what to expect as silly me booked the hotel before checking the reviews (although I never trust reviews 100%, prefer to make my own mistakes :)). The hotel is old, rough around the edges and does need a makeover, but gosh its full...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
