Grossly overpriced back-packer hostel Run down, rather sticky, manically over-wrought decoration, desperate sense that it is trying to be clever and funny. Some staff seemed half-asleep. Torrents of staff four-letter words accompany breakfast, whose components were lowest possible quality. Too much attention to style, none to quality.

Great room in a wee hotel 3 mins walk from the castle. Read the Beano on the bog and eat Tunnocks teacakes in bed. What more do I need? A great base camp for a stay in the thick of Edingburgh. Would use again for sure.

Great room, amazingly quiet, bang in the centre, opposite the Mussel & Steak Restaurant just down from the Bow pub, dead near Waverley Station. Just downhill from the Museum of Scotland, Hula underneath. Need I go on. Oh & didn't break the bank either. & no the owner is not my Grandson.

The majority of rooms are not as generous as the publicity pictures. Having said that the room was good with a very comfortable bed. The decor is quirky and fun. The in room coffee was the best I have had in a hotel... The staff were helpful and very promptly got the shower fixed when it stopped working. Breakfast in...

I needed to stay in the centre of Edinburgh and heard of this hotel. Not quite the centre but near enough. My room was small but ample for a nights stay the room was comfortable and had all the mod cons. The décor was comic strips wall paper and the sugar for coffee/tea in a syrup tin. I thought overall...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
