The hotel has a lot of charme to it, with its beautifully decorated, clean rooms. Especially the friendliness of our hosts made the stay perfect. Not only do they make great breakfast, they are always available if you have a question regarding the city or a request considering the hotel itself. This created a very comfortable atmosphere, making our stay...

My husband and I stayed at this establishment for one night and the value was exceptional. The place is few minutes away from central location, without the noise. Our room was clean and cozy. Freddie was very friendly and provided excellent service. This place (more like bed & breakfast) was a great value.

We stayed for one night at The Broughton as we're going to see a show at the playhouse. The welcome was very friendly and helpful, not always what you get from the larger hotels. The free car parking was a huge bonus. The location is brilliant especially if you are going to the theatre. The breakfast the next morning was...

My daughter and I recently stayed at the Broughton Hotel in Edinbourgh. We had a marvelous stay. Freddie was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and very accommodating of our late arrival. Or room was lovely- spacious and well appointed. We had plenty of choices for breakfast - we had the traditional Scottish which was expertly cooked. I don't usually sleep well...

Lovely people, lovely breakfast with a big selection. Very reasonable priced bed and breakfast within walking distance of the city centre. Cosy and welcoming B and B, but in my opinion it's all you need. Thank you we'll be back.

This B&B didn't look too exciting on the outside but turned out to be a lovely little place. The staff were very nice and accommodating. Our room was cozy and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and it was no problem that we asked to have it made gluten-free. We received a very warm welcome...

Very well located B&B run by enthusiastic and friendly husband and wife team. The building is very characterful if somewhat dated and is good for short trips when just a bed is needed. Not a romantic getaway but a good base and value for money.

Great location, friendly welcome, lovely breakfast and went to the effort to borrow a cot for our baby when the other cot was already being used. Easy to get to from the airport, via the tram and close to lots of restaurants and bars.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
