We arrived at the Ayden to an extremely warm welcome from David who was "flying solo" as Anita was away for the weekend. The Ayden is spotless, room was very well decorated and a really comfy bed. Breakfast was delicious and plenty of it including cereals, yougurts etc. Only a 10

We were left in the hands of David while Anita was away and we couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming host who couldn’t do enough for us - from local restaurant recommendations, travel and general advice. The guest house in itself is lovely and immaculately clean, it has a

We returned for a second time to celebrate a birthday and were welcomed a warmly as the first time. We were in room 6 again, in the top floor. This room is very cosy and has a very nice en-suite, but some people may find the stairs a bit narrow and steep. The breakfast choice is

"Rooms overlooking the garden will be quieter as the road is a bus route and busy."
"Rooms on the 1st floor are a little smaller, but quieter; the attic rooms are bigger and double aspected."
"One of the rooms doesn't have an en suite (you have to cross the corridor for shower/toilet)- if going during a big event (book festival, tattoo, fringe) and this is a deal breaker, best check in advance."
"If you need two rooms I would choose the top floor as you will have a feeling of complete privacy from other guests. Will need to be able to climb some relatively narrow stairs though."
"All rooms look of an equally high standard. My only tip is that, unlike many of the B&Bs on Pilrig Street, Ayden doesn't have a board in the front garden. So, after turning off Leith Walk, if you go past the first bus stop on the left, you've missed it!"
