Detailed Reviews
After reading the reviews on here I was very anxious about taking the children away but it was absolutely brilliant.
we stayed in a 4 person wigwam and it was so cosy with heating, fridge, toaster, kettle, microwave and even a small TV which the children loved. There is a bbq space and a picnic table outside.
There was no issues at all, the stables bar and restaraunt was really nice and chikdrens menu, 2 courses for £6.50 which we thought was fab.
The park itself is really nice, lots if trees and surrounding walks. Good size play park, Toilets and shower rooms were spotless with underfloor heating so was comfortable getting out the shower.
the only thing I would say is that check-in at 5pm is a bit late especially when you need to be out for 10am. Perhaps an earlier check-in would suit better especially if travelling with a young family.
But all in we found the place great and will definitely be returning this year.

We hired a Bordeaux 3 bedroom caravan for 3 nights starting 07th Feb as accommodation whilst we had a new boiler installed at home.
Absolutely amazing, I had no idea how luxurious a home from home this would be.
The caravan was immaculately presented and spotlessly clean. Complete with gas fired central heating plus remote control fan assisted gas fire in the lounge area,
lovely comfortable double bed with great duvet plus en-suite with mains shower that’s better than many hotels, topped off with excellent well equipped kitchen with 4 ring cooker with oven and grill plus a microwave and full size fridge freezer.
What more could you ask for?
We woke up on the Monday to 6 inches of snow (which doubled by the Tuesday) but it was so toasty warm we were unaware it had snowed and really didn’t mind 😊
The icing on the cake – well stocked site shop, pub and garden centre restaurant nearby, plus a farmshop selling locally produced organic fruit and vegetables plus most other necessities. There are many many paths to walk straight out the site gate and the local tourist attraction of two highland cattle to watch along with a myriad of wildlife including herons and buzzards.
Downsides if any is the mediocre wifi, this is down to the out of the way location, (it is half a mile from the nearest main road) and rather feeble broadband. I would be surprised if fibre gets anywhere near this site.

June 2021 was our second stay here and unfortunately, we were disappointed with the washroom facilities or the lack thereof. One block was closed for maintenance (This could have been done when the site was not in use owing to Covid regulations), putting pressure on the rest. A cleaning timetable closed another washroom at peak time!
The site is very well laid out in beautiful grounds, extremely handy to the City etc. but, the poor facilities, including the toilet waste site next to a caravan pitch, lets the site down against the premium charge. Remember to bring levelling wedges with a motorhome/camper van.
We watched several vans having difficulty manoeuvring to avail of the heavy trapped wastewater disposal point.
One member of staff, spoken to when leaving, agreed with us the design of one washroom block is poor when one user denies another of basic facilities. The use of a toilet denies the use of the shower and vice-versa. There are no wash hand basins for sole use!
The Restaurant/Bar was closed with no explanation and the 'Opening Hours' outside stated otherwise.
I got no response from the returned comments slip.

We stayed here at the end of November in a caravan. I phoned ahead before booking to check they were open so late in the year and they said yes. I booked a fully serviced pitch and was phoned a week before our stay to let us know that due to weather conditions they needed to move us - I said it was no problem as long as the pitch was the same which they assured me it was. It wasn’t. There was no water hook up on the pitch and the pitch was water logged and covered in mud. We also noticed that although we were next to a shower block and toilets they were closed for ‘maintenance’ and there was only one block open on site which luckily for us was at the opposite end to where we were. The closet water taps were also turned off next to our pitch and there was only one was working on site. which you guessed it was on the other side of the site. I went into reception to complain and was told the site partially shuts down in the winter months. None of this was explained over the phone or on the website before booking. I was offered a partial refund which I accepted and we stayed for the week we had booked. The partial refund never appeared and when I emailed them to query this I was completely ignored. It’s honestly not worth the hassle of staying here when there are plenty of better sites to pick from in Edinburgh.

When we arrived we went to get a shower. The water was cold even after waiting for hot water to come through it was still cold.We complained at reception and the staff went to the toilet block and re set the boiler and when we went again the problem had been put right.
We asked for the Wi Fi code only to be told that if we wanted Wi Fi it would be an extra £5 per day.As we were staying 3 days that would have been an extra £15
We then tried to tune in the tv.We have never had a problem tuning the tv in on any site before but on this site we could not get many channels. We had no ITV at all and many other terrestrial stations were missing. So all we had was BBC 1 and 2.
By the 2nd day we had had enough and left a day early.
It is a great pity that we found these problems at this site because the location is ideal and it has a good restaurant and bar and handy for the bus into Edinburgh.
The staff on the site were brilliant but the basic requirements on the site were just not there..The only thing I can suggest is the TV should be on hook up connected to the EHU posts to get proper tv reception. The Wi Fi really does need to be included in the fee like other sites.Anyone staying a week has a hefty fee if they want Wi Fi .

Just back from our annual long weekend staying at the Mortonhall Wigwam whilst we visit the Edinburgh Festival.
Customer service very poor. We noticed in T&C's you cannot check into Wigwams until 5.00pm on day of arrival...why so late when you are paying circa £90 for full day!
We phoned up week before our trip to ask if it was possible to check in a bit earlier as we had a restaurant booked in Edinburgh centre for 6.00pm. The lady on the phone was very condescending and unhelpful. We were told in no uncertain terms check-in was 5.00pm no room for change, and that this was due to Wigwams being 'Deep Cleaned' before arrival...see our photos lol
On arrival day we turned up at 3.55pm (fully prepared to have to wait an hour) only to find a notice at reception saying check-in was 4.00pm! Reception girl looked at her watch and made us wait 5mins before checking us in!
Anyway, onto the 'Deep Cleaned' Wigwam. First impression looked ok although the curtain on rear window was half hanging of and completely fell off when touched.
The microwave had never been cleaned..see photo! looked like a tin of soup had exploded inside.
The kettle was left half full with water.. a minor issue I know but a wee pet hate of ours when we go to hotels/Bnb' etc.
The floor had clearly not been swept, dust and dirt prevailed and the bedding mattress thingy was not cleaned properly.
Went to complain at reception and after showing them photo of microwave they did arrange a re-clean.
To be fair the cleaning team arrived in the time it took for me to walk back round to the Wigwam. Cleaning lady told us that the original clean was done by 'a new girl' and it was not checked afterwards.
The site was very busy as you would expect given time of year and Edi festival, however we were kept awake by other users in the opposing Wigwams sitting outside drinking, laughing etc until 3.30am, surely not too much to have someone ask them to tone things down after 11.00pm
We have stayed at this site several times over the years for both camping and wigwams and it is a nice site with good and general clean facilities.
However given the now large cost for wigwam £90 per night I would have expected a better service, we will not use these again.

Quite expensive for a relatively small pitch compared to other sites. Shower block is freezing even though there's a heater it's not been on in the three nights we stayed here and this morning it's frosty 🥶! Shower block/toilets could do with a good clean. However great location, four miles into Edinburgh £4.50 each return on bus. Loads of kids here.

So we phoned up and asked if we can pay day by day as the weather has been wild .. got told that was fine. So when we went to pay got told we had to pay for our 4 nights so we payed cash didn’t get a receipt or any sort of paper with not terms and conditions nothing .. so we asked to be close to the toilets which yes we where but they are closed apparently only open in summer went to the next block of coarse there’s closed aswell there’s no heating in them so 3rd time lucky we find a toilet block that was open .. we where the furthest caravan from this !! This also included the water and waste !! So the past 3 days we drove to and from the toilets .. then we have had enough the pitches are so narrow we had to park on the grass which we got stuck us and also a few others .. so the weather took a turn and we left a day early so went a spoke to a very unhelpful angry van at the reception he wouldn’t listen to what my husband was saying about how we asked to pay per night .. the only words he could speak and what we could understand was terms and conditions which is fair enough if we had a copy !! My husband came outside to turn the car off and he locked us out the reception appeared out the side door walking away telling us to come back tomorrow as if that’s ever going to happen !! I have learned sometimes being honest doesn’t get you anywhere .. a few people came in after 5 when reception was closed and left early in the morning so we must of paid for them!! I am very angry the way this was dealt with .. so booking people in paying cash getting no receipt someone’s got a good wee thing going there !! I hope the manager reads this and open your eyes .. will never be back and definitely telling others to avoid this place

Having stayed on this site recommended it to members of my family as last time it was spotless. Toilets and showers were cleaned on a regular basis. On arrival it looked the same a beautiful site well manicured grounds we had stayed on before. No problems getting our pitch however despite having given them our unit size our motorhome didn’t fit on the pitch neither length ways or side ways. We stepped out our van onto muddy grass. The toilets were clean BUT the shower cubicles in the stable block were filthy with clumps of matted hair under the blue mat in the showers. In the gents toilet/shower area same block a biscuit or piece of toast was on the floor for 3 days . Having paid £41-75p per night was very disappointed and disgusted at the state of the showers and the filthy mop thing that was left to mop the floor. The paper towel dispenser was off the wall throughout our visit so no way could you take a towel without touching the bottom of the dispenser. Sorry Mortonhall really disappointed at the conditions and the cleanliness of your showers. Will not visit again.

We booked a 4 night stay, location being the main factor as we wanted to visit Edinburgh. We booked a full service hard standing pitch, which upon arrival at, was found to be in a less than desirable state. The ground around it was churned up and levelling the caravan resulted in the nose being almost to the floor. We rejected the pitch and moved to a standard hard standing pitch but to our cost - a refund of the lower cost pitch was not offered and would have to be requested.
The second issue experienced was the sheer noise! Groups of families gathered on the deserted tent field late into the night on a Fri/Sat nights and no consideration was given by guests who were arriving late. It appeared late arrivals were not managed at all despite there being a late arrivals area.
Thirdly was speeding on site. Other customers simply did not heed sppeed limits; worse still was park staff racing around on tractors and mowers.
Finally, while the wash block near our van was clean enough, it was unisex. This made the female nembers in my family very uncomfortable indeed.
On the whole a very noisy and insecure (no entry/exit barriers) site whose only saving grace is its proximity to Edinburgh. Don't be fooled by the website!

Hi! Unfortunately the number 11 goes down Lothian Road on the west side of Princes Street through Morningside. You can though take the number 11 two stops down toward Hyvots Bank and then either the 7 or 37 from Burdiehouse Road into the city which will stop along Minto Street not too far from the Commonwealth Pool. An unlimited day ticket will cost £4.00. I hope this helps!
Sorry just got message but hope you had a great time
We are going this weekend. 8 families. 32 of us. Some camping, some in caravans.
