Great location within easy walking distance of most attractions, transport, shops and restaurants. Room was rather an odd shape and small but we had a great view right to the Firth of Forth (room was on 5th floor) it was clean and bright and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was extremely efficient with almost instant hot water. Only...

We stayed for three nights when visiting Edinburgh in January. We took a tram from the airport to the St. Andrew Sq. stop. Ca 30 min trip, return ticket was for GBP 8,50. The hotel is located across the square from the tram stop. Easy to find. We arrived to the hotel around noon to leave our luggage there, but...

I really liked this place and I will probably book it again when we return to Edinburgh. The room was very small but in a place like Edinburgh your probably not going to be spending much time in your room anyway. The decor was fabulously Scottish with stag wallpaper, plaid carpet and Scottish sayings on the cupboard doors. It was...

The Ibis Styles hotel is the perfect place to stay for our short break in Edinburgh with friends. Located in St Andrews Square at the end of George Street, it is ideal for shopping in Princes Street, pubs and restaurants in Rose Street and the Dome and other quality venues in George Street itself. The hotel is modern, stylish and...

We have just spent a night at the Ibis whilst attending the rugby at Murrayfield. We arrived on the train at Waverley and it is only a five minute walk from the station to the hotel. The reception area, bar and eating area are all together in an open plan space, it makes the best it can of the floor...

A human welcome - not by a computer as in the Premier Inn, and a civilised negotiation after finding that the first room, was too small for a ten-day stay. Two other quite different rooms were viewed, the large 6th-floor room chosen, for a supplement. Room 605 had a wonderful large balcony facing mainly East over St Andrews Square, including...

Stayed here for 3 nights, for some reason we were given a disabled room, room 1. There was a walk in shower with no shower tray so the water went all over the bathroom floor and didn't dry all day. It was a basement room with a tiny window looking up at the road. Continental breakfast was fine, always replenishing...

Hi manofsteel23 ( love the Superman reference, big fan) Thank you for your review, please accept my apologies the room was not as you expected, our accessible rooms are generally bigger than our other rooms so that is a plus, however the "wet room" style bathroom can offer some challenges although it should not have taken all day to dry...

Got bumped into the hotel after the Mercure was overbooked. The room was pretty small but considering it's around £68 if I'd booked online it's not so bad. The hotel was clean, modern and very nicely designed. There's also an ironing room. The only let down was the continental breakfast. Nice enough but would have liked the option for cooked...

The location is fantastic, the rates were very competitive, the staff is friendly, and the room was nice, quiet, and comfortable. My only criticism (and a very minor one at that), is that the breakfast did not offer a lot of choice nor did it change from day-to-day. We would definitely return though!

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
