Demi, the owner of the hotel, is so kind and friendly. The family room is massive. The linens are clean. The en-suite bathroom is modern. I recommended the family room. Also, it takes one bus ride to Princes Street. Very convenient.
I stayed for one night with my boyfriend and it's one of the worst places I have ever stayed (bar one place in Asia several years ago). The double room was very tiny and the wallpaper was hanging off the walls. it was also very yellow, you can tell it's never been decorated since well before the smoking ban back in 2004/2005 - I'd say decades old! The shower had long black hairs stuck to the taps and shampoo bottles and there was dirt all over the floor of the shower too. I felt like you'd need a shower to get over that shower! The hairdryer was incredibly old with wires showing so I didn't dare touch it. There was a large flat screen TV which didn't switch on, so who knows how long it's sat broken. Thankfully we were literally just there to sleep for the one night and didn't have to spend too long in there. On arrival one person met us, a young guy who didn't speak much English but he was polite enough. On check out we had a cleaner ask for our key as we were leaving the room. I was a bit unsure about this as she could have been anyone but there wasn't anyone else around to check us out. I'd say that this is more of a hostel and is best suited to back packers who need a place to rest their heads on a budget. it's not for a long term stay and certainly not for a couple or family. You're better spending £20 per night more for a Travel Lodge or something like that as you'll spend that, and more, if you decided to get taxis to and from the city centre. So it adds up. One thing I WILL say, which is positive, is that the mattress was very comfortable and we were given clean towels. But the whole place needs closed down, ripped out and started again. Sorry but won't be back.…
I booked a stay in the Adelphi Hotel in a quadruple room for three people. My friends cancelled the trip about three minutes after the booking was closed. I noticed, then, that I'd mistakenly booked a non-refundable room, however I was optimistic that a reasonable organization would understand the extenuating circumstances and be willing to work with me. I called the hotel, and was informed (at noon, mind you), that reception was closed and that they were unable to help me. When I called back the next day, I received the same statement. I called back a few hours later and was finally able to speak to someone. The man I spoke to, Demas, was condescending, unhelpful, and unkind. When I asked to speak to a superior, he was rude, and informed me GLEEFULLY that the hotel was legally able to charge my card for the literal five minutes my reservation was active. This is when the hotel charged my card for a second time. He asked that I email them, as his director did not speak to clients personally, but may respond to an email. After waiting for a response for three days, I received word that the company was legally within bounds to charge my card, and intended to do so. When I explained the situation--that my friends had cancelled, and I would be staying in a room I couldn't afford alone--I asked if it was possible to at least honor the original reservation so I would not end up paying 4x what I could afford as a solo traveler by staying with the original booking. Preet, the incredibly rude director of the branch, failed to reply to my email for days, and by the time she did, the hotel was completely booked. When I called the hotel, they pretended the manager wasn't available and refused to let me speak to the director. I was continually informed to email the hotel, as no one at the company seems interested in having a conversation with a real person. The hotel's responses were incredibly delayed and unhelpful. At their worst, they simply copied and pasted the same reply twice instead of reading and replying to what I wrote to them. When I explained my situation, the manager informed me that if the company helped everyone, they would go bankrupt. Perhaps, sir, if you were pleasant to your customers and approached your work from a place of care and kindness, more people would want to stay at your business.…
I'm aware this accomodation isn't four star however it was far below what we as a group ever have expected. We booked a 5 bedroom for a group of girls and on arrival we had to wait for 10 minutes for a member of staff to arrive and check us in. When the staff member arrived he informed us that the room situation had been changed and we had been given two bedrooms. One of the rooms had a double bed and bunk beds and the other only a single bed. Not acceptable really considering we booked as a group of five meaning one person would be separated on another floor and no one even contacted us prior to our arrival. Anyway, we went to the single bedroom and on opening the door the smell of cigarette smoke was horrendous and couldn't stay in it. We did flag this up and received a (very) partial refund. The four person room decor was extremely dated as was the bathroom which made it look filthy especially the flooring as the once white floor in the bathroom was turning yellow. The beds were uncomfortable and there were no blinds just shutters which meant the room was filled with daylight at 5am. The bathroom for the room next door was also built within our room which was a little odd. Also the hotel tried to take payment for the room prior to check in. I did see the hotel comment that this is normal, however taking payment without authorisation at that time doesn't seem right considering we were informed that we would pay on our arrival. We were glad we were only there for one night and definitely wouldn't return. I've stayed in nicer hostels at a fraction of the price we paid for this 'hotel.'…
This hotel is disgusting as you will see from the photos that will be attached, each photo will be described within here of what the issue was in the picture, so just to explain the story here: Me, my fiancée and my little boy (9 months old) where going away in Edinburgh for a lovely week away for her 21st, this included multiple tours that had been pre booked and organised and a lot of ‘things to do’... however we got to the hotel and got showed to the room which we had been “upgraded” to, for FREE, we had been upgraded from a double room to a ‘family room’ we got told where the room was and went to it and went in and took some time to look around a huge empty room with 3 beds and a wardrobe in... From seeing the room we had found all the pictures attached below, we are 100% going to take this further and fight to get our money back, as after looking at the mess and confronting the ‘Manager’ who was on shift, who called himself ‘Dennis’ we showed him all the pictures and told him how disgusting it is and was, he then offered the room that we previously booked, which was up 4 flights of stairs (no lift) and we had a baby with a pram and lots of bags... so this was not feasible with our circumstances, we then said sorry we won’t be staying here and walked out with my son and fiancée and had to pay £300+ to quickly book somewhere else so my fiancee’s birthday wasn’t ruined. 1st picture - Very dangerous considering I have a 9 month old baby who is crawling and climbing on everything and this was very sharp!!! 2nd picture - Disgusting like mould on the duvet of the main double bed... 3rd picture - The disgusting Un-cleaned mess behind the coffee/kettle area, why would I drink coffee or have water from that kettle when it looks like that! 4th picture - Kettle with water in still from god knows when!? 5th picture - Shower looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in a while... disgusting. 6th picture - This is where I am supposed to put my sons toothbrush and our own! 7th picture - The wardrobe, again... not been cleaned in ages! 8th picture - The wallpaper, this is just one bit... stains and mould all over wallpapers and corners 9th picture - The walls near the windows, 4 like this. 10th picture - The shower at the bottom coming off and all the yellow mould thing around it also.…
