Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I booked this hotel at the last minute for my five year old daughter and I as my wife was taken into Edinburgh hospital whilst on holiday in Scotland. Ted was fantastic and very understanding. The room was lovely and sky sports on the TV was a welcome bonus.

We arrived expecting the hotel in the photos to find it was being re-roofed and looked closed. Scaffolding, rubbish and insulation everywhere. Honestly thought we weren't going to be able to stay. There was no warning of this at all. No facilities available, only a back door entrance to the room. We had requested an accessible room and being promised this. We were told on arrival that the upstairs room was identical and when I pointed out that it was upstairs, the response was 'you're not in a wheelchair'. I have contacted the owner for comment and received a very rude response. So very disappointing.

Perfect place to stay to access all you need to see and do in Edinburgh. Dot and Ted went above and beyond to make our stay the best. We will definitely be staying here again in the future. Lovely cosy comfy rooms with everything you need. Thanks again Dot and Ted :) Sarah n Jason

Very wholesome place to stay. Myself and 2 of my friends stayed here for 3 nights and I couldn’t of asked for more. Everything about this place was just stupendous. The service, food, rooms, beds.. the list goes on. Can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you so much.

My wife and I chose Aaron Lodge as the base for our 2020 Edinburgh Hogmanay jaunt. We were greeted with a 5* welcome from Ted and Dot who quickly proceded to show us around their 1st class B+B. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, clean and very well presented. Breakfast is delicious, fresh, hot and plentiful. Just what you need to set you up for the day after an excellent night's sleep in a gigantic and very comfortable, double bed. There is free, off road parking and free wi-fi which are great little extras. Aaron Lodge is perfectly situated 3 miles away from Edinburgh centre, on one of the main routes in. There is an excellent, reasonably priced bus service which takes 10-15 mins to reach the city centre. I strongly recommend anyone thinking of staying in Edinburgh to give this place a try. You will not be disappointed. We would definitely stay here again. Ted and Dot, thank you for your great hospitality.

Aaron Lodge is conveniently located within a 10 to 15 minute bus ride to Edinburgh city centre. The bus stop is immediately outside the premises. Rooms are amazing with respect to facilities and cleanliness. Breakfast is included in the tariff and it is delicious - cereal, fruit juice, bacon and eggs, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns and sausages, toast and tea and coffee. It is served in a lovely room at the front of the building and with white tablecloths at each table, it provides a very welcoming start to the day. Hosts, Ted and Dot, are an extremely friendly couple who go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. We stayed for a week and our son for a further 3 weeks and the service remained top class. We would gladly return.

Came for a few days as soon as met Ted and Dot could tell they were great hosts, and were for duration of stay, always friendly and polite yes breakfast is early but I would imagine balancing for people with hospital appointments, workers and tourists! So I would definitely recommend.

Went with family and friends for a nice relaxing break for two nights and this it was not, hotel was clean and nice, rooms also clean and nice, breakfast average and not much choice for a hot breakfast as sausages poor quality and bacon streaky (just fat) which is not to a lot of people’s taste! not only this we were told by owner to be there before 8oclock in the morning or we wouldn’t get breakfast! Fantastic customer service.. NOT!! At one point my grandmothers plate was taken away from her before she was even finished and lights being switched off whilst we were trying to eat! ( very poor service to expect people that are there for a break to be up for breakfast at 7.30!!) especially as this is already paid for!! We were also told by owner that he would like paid by cash (this was not something I was prepared to do and because of the situation with feeling constantly rushed it was paid by card) cleaners were at the door at 8 in the morning to clean the room on the first morning we told them to leave the room as it was tidy and we had only been there one night they ignored this making us go into another family members room while they hoovered (quite ridiculous at that time in the morning) second morning we just got up ready and wanted home as it was just a constant rush like they couldn’t get you out quick enough same again 7.30 sheets outside the door awaiting to come in!! If your going here for a relaxing break I would NOT recommend!!

After reading some of the reviews on here I had no hesitation booking this as a base for a visit to the Xmas Market with family..... The rooms were lovely and spotlessly clean.... The owner welcomed us and on first impressions seemed friendly enough although seemed to make a bit of a song and dance about making sure the card wasn’t left in as “ Electricity isn’t free” and asking us if we could pay in cash rather than card? Having an 80 year old and a 78 year old in the party I had a feeling the walking could be a bit much for them so thought the Bar would be ideal where they could have a drink and relax, however we were told that the bar wasn’t open as they did not have a licence?? This should be clarified on the website. Breakfast was ridiculously early being from 7am-8.15am and this is where the whole experience went downhill.... The owner seemed to stand over you at breakfast and at one point lights were being switched off as we were eating!!! My mother’s plate was taken away before she put her fork down. Breakfast is meant to be relaxing and this certainly wasn’t the case.... I was so annoyed about the whole thing I didn’t go for breakfast on the second morning... *note to owner * People are at your establishment for a relaxing break, one of the most rushed, uncomfortable experiences I have ever had.....watched your every move.... more like a jail than a hotel..... WOULDNT RECOMMEND !!!

We recently stayed at this hotel whilst visiting a close relative who is currently in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Ted and Dot are fantastic hosts, very kind and friendly and just cannot do enough for you, Ted picked us up at the hospital when we first arrived. The hotel is very comfortable, clean and warm and they do all they can to make you feel welcome, nothing is a bother to them. The breakfast is also fantastic, they have a selection of cold and hot which is freshly cooked and very tasty. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, it really is excellent.
