Very home-like atmosphere; no reception - when arrived found a receptionist just in a living room with other tourists. Didn't use kitchen, though in the evening somebody was cooking, and you could catch the smell even on 2nd floor. Was staying one night in a 6-bed mixed room. Tiny bathroom, water from shower was flooding all over the floor and...

Great place to stay & only minutes from everything! Everyone loves to chill in the main common area, there is a nice kitchen & clean bathrooms. The staff was great & the manager Haylie was very helpful!

I know this was a basic hostel as it was one of hte last places left to book for New years. Travelled with 4 other friends, we've stayed in hostels all around the world so we aren't picky. But this place could do with a lick of paint at least! We had a private room - the large double window...

Had the best time staying here, staff are so lovely and accommodating! Went out with them and had an amazing night, definitely made some great friends. Hostel itself was cosy, like a little house which was really nice staying in a homey environment. Great value for price and about a 15-20 minute walk to all the major tourist sites and...

I stayed long term here before finding a flat in Edinburgh. The staff are beyond friendly, welcomed me with open arms and helped me with any requests I had about accommodation or the city itself. It's a relaxed environment that feels more like home than a hostel which is exactly what I wanted travelling solo. Would recommend to anyone and...

The hostel was well organised. Considering that the staff and visitors were mostly very young the facility was well managed and relatively clean. I had taken along my bed sheet, towel and pillowcase so it didn't matter much. It's very conveniently located for seeing the city. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay there again.

Stopped for two nights there in August. The location is good, about 25 minutes' walk from the city center (or a 10-minute bus ride), and though close to a busy neighborhood, the street is quite, however, the hostel is quite rundown. Lamps were not working, we were told the circuit just wasn't functioning, the key to the door wasn't working either...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
