Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Check in a nightmare - system issue with key cards which we were told independently was a regular occurrence. Additional money paid for Plusroom disappointing - wi-fi access slow/non existent, not enough tea or coffee pods provided to go with the advertised Nespresso machine. Room spacious but not enough furniture! Room nit checked after first night - don’t expect clean towels but not quite sure what the 20% premium git us! Public toilets not clean. Convenient location but there are so many hotels in central Edinburgh not sure I would use this one again. Given check in issues staff still good humoured, but always felt that you are pretty much on your own. Not cheap so poor value really

We stayed at this Premier Inn as we were staying in Edinburgh for one night, so wanted somewhere central as a base. Edinburgh Waverley station is a short 10 minute walk away and there are plenty of amenities nearby, including pubs and restaurants. We did opt for a Premier Plus room, which was on the 3rd floor and of high quality, with some nice additional touches. There’s a nice bar and we did stay for breakfast, which was hosted in the on-site restaurant. Overall an excellent stay and I’d recommend!

The reception staff were down right rude , i have never in my life been spoken to like it .Queued for over 45 minutes to be given a room that was unsuitable, only to be given another room which was worse . We have visited this hotel numerous times , but due to this will never use premier inn again !!

There was mould coming out of the walls and skirting boards The team were friendly but couldnt offer us anything as the hotel was booked. we went and stayed somewhere else

When we arrived there was one person in front of us. The 1 girl on reception was on the phone advising someone of other hotels in Edinburgh and going through trip advisor scores with them. Whilst she did this we waited at least 5 mins!!!! Eventually someone came out from a ‘team member only door’ round the back of reception in the hallway and dealt with the guys restaurant booking that he wanted to change and then us. She said she’d deal with our booking in the office and disappeared into an office for a few minutes. When she came out she gave us one keycard, we had to ask for another one, she didn’t make any mention to us about breakfast or the restaurant and gave no directions of how to get to our room she just moved onto the people behind us. We have stayed in lots of premier inns, we have never had such a bad check in experience. Once we got to our room it was very disappointing. Room 120. Very dubious stain on the only chair which meant we couldn’t use it. The carpet was stained. The bedside light shade was ripped. The ceiling spotlight has been gauged out and looked terrible. The bathroom had black mould beside the bath, the bath panel was all burst with water damage. The hand soap dispenser was all rusty. All the walls were scraped and damaged. The room was the smallest we have ever had but granted we were right in the centre of Edinburgh so this was to be expected. The air con was very temperamental. When we arrived in the room it was hot so we put the air con on which took a long time to cool the room down. When we went to bed it was cold so we put the heat up to 21 but when we woke in the night it was roasting and the window was just glass so not openable, so we were too hot for quite a while till the air con got working again. We would have mentioned all this to the staff when we checked out in the morning but there was no one there!!! So we put our cards in the box and left. I don’t think we will be back to this one which is a shame because it’s in a great location.

Our 5th stay at this hotel as we were in town for the 6 Nations, (against France - as a neutral, IMO definitely a try at the end). Well situated, only 10 minutes walk from the station and on the tram route so ideal-ish for Murrayfield. I say ish because now the tram route is fully open rather than it being the terminus, the hotel’s tram stop is now en route so it’s pretty full by the time it gets to you! As a result we’ll have to rethink our Tram ride to Murrayfield strategy. Regardless, York Place will still be our hotel,of choice. As ever, the staff were very helpful and friendly. We made good use of the meal deal and TBH it was really good value for money - food was to a good std and the service excellent. The room we stayed was OK but looked like it could do with a bit of TLC. Overall , it was OK. We’re already making loose plans for a 6N visit for next year, (says it all really), all depends on the fixtures and whether or not we’re lucky enough to get tickets.

Worst premier inn we’ve ever stayed in. The room was full of condensation , mould and had no air flow. The aircon was broken and dripping through the ceiling tile and the carpet was sodden with water which made it smell. I was coughing all night because of my asthma. The fan in the bathroom was just a cover and there was no fan underneath. We didn’t have any room service so the towels were soaked because of the mould. No reception staff around on Saturday . When got chance to call down to reception on Sunday no one answered both times. We managed to speak to a staff member at 10:15 as they were leaving and asked her for a dehumidifier for the room, which they weren’t able to do. She saw the state of the room and took pictures she said “we could move you to a different room, we said is there much point because we’re leaving tomorrow morning and we’ll have to repack? and she said yeah that’s true, instead you can ring the relations department Tuesday and they’ll normally give a refund for things like this. We’ve called the relations team today and got through to a patronizing staff member who said because we were “offered” another room and because we “refused” to move there’s nothing they can do, we asked to put us through to a manager and she said she can’t do this. So stay away from this hotel. The Mercure Hotel in the old town was a lovely, clean hotel with friendly staff present all hours !

Definitely not a premier plus room. Standard bathroom just with a bigger shower head. No shampoo/conditioner and mouldy skirting boards. Stains on carpets and curtains. Location was good and bed was clean and comfy but definitely wouldn’t stay here again.

The worst Premier Inn we've stayed at. Lack of staff, reception was hardly manned. The lady who checked us in, served at the bar, restaurant and then she was cooking breakfast. We went for dinner to be shouted at by bar staff "your not booked in till 5pm", the time was 4.55. I have had other issues, and was told on phone to send an email with screenshots. Nobody has replied to my emails or phone calls. Totally disgusted by this hotel. Will never stay at 44 York Place, Edinburgh again.

I stayed here as part of a group of family catching up on Saturday night. I will start with the positive points. The hotel bar/toilets were nice and clean. The breakfast was nice. (Although the restaurant at breakfast was really uncomfortable due to how warm it was) . The room was spacious and clean enough. The biggest negative was the fact that most of our rooms were not ready at the stated 3pm check in time. Now we had reservations at 5pm for dinner which was cutting it fine even at 3pm but that's the standard time so we waited. 3.40 pm and still not been told 3 of our rooms are ready yet. I approached the lady at the desk (who couldn't care less btw) she stated check in time is 3pm onwards..... yes so we can check in any time after 3pm?? As in any other hotel. Aparantly it means something different here. I was also told that it was impossible for all rooms to he ready at 3pm when they are fully booked!!!! What a load of rubbish. Never heard anything like that in my life. We are paying for that room from 3pm check in time as advertised. She did eventually call the cleaner as I explained I suffer from anxiety and this wasn't helping. It took like 5 mins before the cleaner could confirm it was ready. When I asked about the other rooms she tried to just get rid of me and told me to go away and they would come back. Another member of our party didn't get into their room until 4.10pm. People go to Edinburgh with plans!!! They clearly had no staff as salesperson was doing the bar and reception at one point but this lady just didn't care, didn't give any explanation. Just stated random rubbish to me which is not standard practice for hotels. Yes the hotel offers 12pm check out at weekends... maybe that's the problem. Such a shame because I have never had any issues before with the other Edinburgh premier inns .
