Nice hostess, helpful and service minded. We got a room looking towards the parking lot the graveyard. That view could have been nicer. On the backside there is a nice view towards the river. The doublebed in the Familyroom was absolutely worn down and the springs were not working. For every night (3 in total) my back hurt more. The... More

I have to say, that our host Barbara was wonderful, the family room we booked was clean and the breakfasts were delicious. The property is within driving distance of Edinburgh, Stirling and Glasgow and has a great view of the Forth. That said, the house itself is in need of some TLC and updating. The beds were springy and uncomfortable... More

We booked in for two nights. I didn't think there was anywhere where you had to ask for a hair dryer. The website for this hotel is a triumph of dreams over the actualities. It is closing in May 2015 according to the website. It willbe interesting to see what happens to all the mismatched furniture etc which even the... More

We arrived at Carriden House midway through our 15 day motor tour of Britain. My wife and I were celebrating our 25th anniversary and Carriden House was to be the highlight, as it appeared enchanting in the adverts. It turned out to be much less. FIRST, let me address the positives. Barbara, the owner and host, is marvelous. She is... More

Old, which we like, well maintained and comfortable with large rooms. Excellent breakfast. Hard to find (down a small dirt road) but well worth it when you arrive. Hostess was very helpful, and we highly recommend it for any type of traveller. Beautiful common area rooms.

We stayed in the family room, very large and comfortable, correct breakfast and wonderful location and building. Do not forget to visit the living room. My daughter played the piano during breakfast ... lovely ! Try to arrive with light as it is easy to miss the main entrance.

We stayed at Carriden House on the first leg of our honeymoon in Scotland (we spent our wedding night here). As there had been a big wedding on the weekend, we had the place to ourselves for the two nights we spent there. The house is old but beautifully maintained. We had room number 5 which had a four-poster bed... More

Enjoyed a one night stay in this historic home. Our room was huge with a double and 2 twins which gave our family of 2 adults and 1 child plenty of room. The bath was spacious although it did not have a stand up shower. Instead there was an old fashioned bath with a hose-type shower head. Worked fine you... More

This is a very interesting place to stay. Now the reason I gave it 5 stars is because of the service. Barbara Blackborne is great and the lady that makes breakfasts, though quiet was terrific. The time of year was dreadful though. I would not recommend winter months here only because it is very cold in this big house. The... More

My wife and I stayed here one night, with our 32 year old daughter. The house has some parts of it that date back 400 years! It is quite the place. As a number of other reviewers have previously noted: it is quiet! It sits back off the main road some distance, along a farm lane that is used only... More
