We stayed here for one night. Normally use the premier inn in the same location but thought we should test this out. The hotel is separate to the restaurant area and felt more like a hostel. Very tired and worn and definitely needs refurbished. Smelt very stale or of smoking Room was adequate, clean and quiet. Only 1 teabag left and quite difficult to get more. No toilet brush or glasses for water. No extra pillows or blanket. Room was extremely basic We had booked an evening meal at the restaurant next door and opted for the carvery option. The beef was so tough and inedible. The other items looked like they had been there for ages. We should have complained but had had a long day so just made the best of and left. We had booked for breakfast the next day which was sold as freshly cooked. To say this was a disappointment would be an understatement Coffee was just instant sachet with a hot water jug (tepid) Cold food and cold plates No plates or cutlery near toaster or anywhere to leave the instant coffee sachets Although these are all small items when added together are all very disappointing We normally stay at the premier inn nearby which is far superior to this hotel

Stayed there8th to 10th December for 2 nights in December 23. The Friday night was reasonable apart from room to warm. We thought sorted for next night and turn air conditioning off. Saturday night - can only say was a nightmare. Went to bed early as daughter swimming early Sunday in Edinburgh at 7.45. About 11pm, 1st interruptions with people merrily shouting outside- poor sound proofing as could hear everything. An hour later and this happened 3 times in next hour we have drunken people entering hotel shouting and swearing and showing no consideration for people sleeping. Then after that we have people using the outside car park as a race track. Engines revving and screeching. This continued until about 3pm. Then we get wakened again at 4am and 5 am by people outside in corridor leaving and shouting. Then the air conditioning switches on before 6am. Even though we turned off- I assume a preset timing. All on all I think we slept about an hour. Worst hotel stay ever for me. Sound proofing is non existent.

Had the chicken strips and popcorn chicken starter £5.95- consisted of 2 chicken strips and 6 popcorn chicken bites. You would be much better going to the likes of KFC cause it was the exact same, honestly it was pitiful. Will not be returning. Overpriced food for the portion size you get.

We were in the accessible room last night. Its was freezing granted we had just come back from 29 degrees. Very basic, not even enough tea bags to have tea when we arrived and another in the morning, 1 packet of sugar and a paxk of biscuits. No food available as we arrived at about 9pm. Lid of the kettle was broken could be a scalding problem, sink plug not there, No toilet roll holder, and door stop for the outside door lying on the floor. It was soo cold as we could not get the heating working so we went to bed. Bed was clean and comfortable. Didnt wait to have a shower as too cold and we were heading straight home. Always thought Id give Marston a go but not again. May Fletcher

We stayed here for 6 nights end Aug/beginning Sept. We were check in by John, I believe he is the manager, he was extremely friendly, helpful and informative. I needed to use the fridge in the restaurant and required access before they opened for breakfast. John came up with a solution for me very quickly and in a positive manner. All the staff were very friendly and efficient. The room was a good size, it included a large table and storage unit and a small hanging area, we had taken extra hangers because we were there for longer. The bathroom included an over bath shower which was adequate, not brilliant pressure but adequate. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room which was replenished daily including biscuits by housekeeping who also made the beds although my husband cut his hand on the first day and ended up getting blood on his pillow overnight, unfortunately the pillowcase wasn’t change just turned over, a little disappointing. Towels were changed daily. There was a lot of dust around the skirting board in the bathroom and the window sill in the main area and the edges of the carpet had grey dust all the way around. All in all it was a reasonably price place to shower and sleep with exceptionally good staff. A bench or 2 out the front would be nice as would an ashtray We had breakfast on our last morning which was really nice, all freshly cooked to order and you could also have a continental breakfast. We also had a carvery on one day…a very mixed review for this…the cauliflower cheese was just amazing, the best I’ve ever had in a restaurant, the Brussel sprouts were lovely too, we like our veg overcooked and these were perfect for our taste, the beef was really nice too. Unfortunately the gammon was more or less all fat, very offputting but worse still were the carrots, I’ve never seen such thick slices of carrots, they were more chunks and so undercooked we couldn’t even get our fork into them to cut them. So mixed reviews on the food but outstanding customer services all round.

Really disappointing experience. We have been to the Sweet Chestnut for a number of years, however after visiting The Summerhouse near Weston Super Mare and really enjoying the meal we had, we thought we could give it a try. In addition, my husband being disabled now, it has easy level access and we thought it would be a nice afternoon out. Firstly the starters arrived, the young girl dropped them, she was very apologetic, salvaged what she could have and picked the 1 piece of chicken and 2/3 garlic mushrooms from the chair and leaving the piece of chicken on the floor. She didn’t wipe the bbq sauce from the chair which my husband did, and then she came back with 2 more mushrooms. Accidents happen and it is wasn’t the end of the world. We then waited an hour and no mains. I asked for an update and the same girl quickly brought the 2 baguettes out. The Philly cheesesteak was meant to be rare but was medium however my husband ate it, although was unable to eat the chips that were peppered with black flecks from a dirty fryer. I ordered the halloumi baguette, it should have had a devils relish on it, which compliments it very well, instead it came completely dry, dry cold halloumi sticks in a dry baguette with no sauce. I was unable to eat it as it was like eating sand and actually the sauce compliments it, but 10mins went by and the staff were no where to be seen. We ended up leaving, I ultimately received my starter and a handful of chips despite paying as you do, upfront. Very disappointed
