In a delightfully elevated position in the ancient capital of Dunfermline - Garvock House is a 4* hotel that sits proudly in over 2 acres of gardens, a glorious testimony to its hey day as a stunning family house. Truly 'the country house hotel in town.' Family owned and run, Garvock House has been transformed into a delightful hotel retaining an authentic and rather special country house charm and informality: relaxing and elegant with classic interiors, very comfortable furnishings and spacious rooms. And a passion for fresh produce which remains undimmed. Dunfermline hotels just don't come better than this.

We had a wonderful 5 night stay at the Garvock. The room was comfortable, the food was delicious and, most important of all, the staff were all absolutely delightful. Every single member of staff we came across went the extra mile to make sure we had a comfortable and luxurious stay. The dinner experience was like going to a five star restaurant and the waiters really took great care over the service and presentation. Sadly we didn’t get anybody’s names but the lady who looked after us at breakfast every morning was absolutely wonderful. She had a sunny disposition and couldn’t do enough for us. We would absolutely recommend the Garvock hotel to anyone looking for a luxury hotel experience for a reasonable price in an excellent location. We hope to be back again very soon.

The hotel is set in well kept grounds in a quiet area of Dunfermline but easy to access the museums, abbey and restaurants by car or by walking.
The staff are outstandingly polite, helpful and efficient. The hotel managed to make us welcome and cared for even when busy with a wedding.
The building is well cared for and the restaurants are imposing and elegant keeping a historic feel.
The food at breakfast and dinner was good and the vegetarian selection was tasty.
The room was comfortable and we had an exceptional 2 nights sleep with comfortable bed and pillows.
The room was very clean and well decorated.

This is an outstandingly exceptional hotel. The decor, the setting, the food, the attentive and faultless staff, the comfortable and spotless rooms. We have eaten here several times and the food is beautiful in its quality and presentation. The white linen tablecloths and beautiful China and silver service just set it off to a very high standard of perfection. We celebrated my husbands 70th birthday with our family here and the service was amazing. We have stayed over twice and the room was beautiful and spotless.

Where to begin. booked a "de luxe" room for £175 a night. Walked into the room and was initially impressed, however when you had a closer look it certainly was not worth the £175.

It was very beige and brown, everything was so dull, not one bit of colour to lift it. Fake orchid on the coffee table. Wall paper blatantly torn while being put up, just glued onto the wall, sections of dated patterned wallpaper didn't match up in places. Water stains on said wall paper above the dressing table mirror. And in this day and age do we really need the folded metal no smoking signs with stains on to remind us not to smoke?

For the amount paid I'd expect a smart TV, instead we got a normal TV with a folder with a list of DVD's we could rent from reception for a £10 charge for each DVD, all DVDs are from pre 2006 and a bit disappointing.

No art work on the walls at all to break up the monotony of the brown and beige.

Sockets were underneath the bedside tables so you either haul them away from the wall or you get down on your hands and knees to plug in your phone charger.

The bathroom was a good size, however there were holes in some tiles, and broken floor tile which was quite sharp.

The "library" was not a library at alL, rather a room with fake book case wallpaper. The entrance hall was tired and looked like it had been painted over and over and honestly needed a good clean and a revamp.

Reception is tucked away in the back of the second hall. Receptionist was busy with another couple when we went in, could have acknowledged us when she saw us waiting but didn't bother to do so.

General impression was that of a once grand building now slowly rotting away.

We did get a decent sleep, but thats all it had going for it. There I things I expect when I pay that price which I did not get, its very over priced for what you get.

Good morning Pippa Thank you for your comments. So glad you had a good night's sleep. We do have a rolling program of refurbishment which takes place off season. Choosing decor is always such a challenge as everyone's tastes are so different. As a lot of our guests are from overseas and don't realise that all our rooms are non smoking, we do keep these wee signs in each room. Next time you are in the area, there's a lovely modern hotel only 15 minutes from us with all mod cons and king rooms starting from £249 Kind regards Pamela

Find somewhere else to stay. My friend had hair in his food, hair in his bed. The rooms were old and tired (old would charm with a bit of musk). The front desk woman was rude at check-in and offered no assistance with bags. I booked a reservation through my travel agent for two people. When they received the booking request it came through for one. When we checked in I was told there may be an additional fee. At checkout, I was told it was 70 pounds more for an additional person on a 150 pound/night room. Highway robbery. The front desk person talked to the owner and the “negotiated” it to 50 pounds. I asked to speak to the owner and was refused. Not really hospitable at all. Not sure where the positive review come from.

Good afternoon Mr Bowe Thank you for your comments. It is always difficult arriving at a hotel when the reservation is incorrect and being notified of an unexpected additional charge. As this was booked as one occupant on line and confirmed to your travel agent in December, I would suggest taking up the reservation issue up with the agency. Had we known prior to arrival, you wished a room for 2 guests, the reservation would have been amended accordingly and the rate given prior to arrival, giving you time to cancel should you have wished. Kind regards Pamela

Visited as had booked a show at the Alhambra Theatre.
Check in was very good, I got all the info I needed from the lovely receptionist.
Room 3 on ground floor, very clean and nicely decorated, I did admire the lamp on the dresser and noted where it was from, very tasteful. My room was quite warm and I couldn’t seem to open the window and couldn’t see any air con.
The bar was nice, wasn’t too keen on the Shiraz but that’s just my taste.
Lots of reserved tables but was allowed to sit at one and was told I may be asked to move if it was to be required.
Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice from continental to traditional Scottish fare, excellent black pudding (Scottish black pudding is the best in my honest opinion).
My check out was easy.
All in all, a really lovely stay and would recommend.

We had a garden view room but the view wasnt the best, there were a pile of wire baskets which didnt look nice.
Our booking showed that the room came with wine/champagne however when we asked at reception the lady said she knew nothing about it and would speak to the manager the following morning. We heard nothing more, it seemed as if they thought if we say nothing the guests will forget about it. Apart from these 2 concerns the stay was very pleasant.

Beware of paying any kind of deposit towards an event/wedding!

I would just like to make any future couples who are considering booking the Garvock House Hotel for a wedding or wedding celebration aware that once you pay them a deposit they have no interest in helping you whatsoever!

They will take a large deposit but don’t provide any kind of written contract with the terms and conditions of booking.

This is strange considering they apparently book “hundreds of weddings each year”. You would think such an established hotel/wedding venue would have something in place to protect themselves and their customers.
The only thing they offer is an apparent “verbal contract” so it is basically your word against theirs and they will change their terms as and when it suits them!

Over 5 months of notice given to you that we could no longer go ahead with that date as planned and not so much as an ounce of help from the Garvock.

£500 for what?? We hadn’t even got as far as having a meeting with your co ordinator to discuss our requirements or what we would be looking for.

Shameless!

Our family attended a special lunch for my Mum's 90th birthday at the Garvock House Hotel in Dunfermline. We had drinks organised by the staff pre lunch in the bar then had a separate room set up for the lunch. The room was just the right size and beautifully arranged. We had organised a special cake and a lovely mirrored cake stand with knife was available. Our three course lunch was delicious, beautifully presented and timely. The waiting staff were excellent and totally accommodated our needs. Having eaten there previously we have found the hotel staff to be very friendly. The drinks were very well organised. The coffee and tablet was lovely and the waiting staff cut the birthday cake and organised packing the remainder of the cake to take home with us. All in all it was a fabulous day and would definitely return to Garvock House. Thank you to all the staff who helped to make it such a special day!

Very nice hotel.
Staff extremely friendly and helpful.
Charming park surrounding the property, the children loved it.
Excellent cuisine at the restaurant for both "adults" and children.
Convenient for getting around by train, Dunfermline City station is just a few minutes walk (about 5/10 minutes with two small children)
We will definitely be back!
