Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked by email, after enquiring about adjoining rooms with a connecting door. We were given these rooms on the lowest floor, which was served by a (very small!) lift. The rooms were warm and comfortable and well stocked with refreshment trays. We had soft towels and essential toiletries, and a couple of extra pillows which were useful. The housekeeping staff couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We had two breakfasts and one main meal in the pub. It was busy in the evening, but we managed to find seats and enjoyed excellent food and service. Again, staff went out of their way to be helpful and welcoming. We would highly recommend the hotel, and would happily stay there again, should we return to Glenrothes.

Was picked up by my brother at the door and he got a £75 parking ticket in the post. Private parking company, all the management have to do is phone them and ask for the ticket to be stopped, but management not prepared to do that. Never going back there

Stayed here Saturday for big weekend dundee. Great budget hotel within walking distance of plenty shops and food places. Beds comfy and room Good size and clean. Nice smell in corridors. Good facilities , the lift was out of order but ok for us as we were on first floor. Only issue really was shower which had poor pressure and took a while to heat up. Other than this no complaints. Staff was nice and handy to have pub downstairs for drinks / food. Parking free outside if staying in hotel. Felt safe as need key card for 3 doors before entering your room. Definitely recommend.

I knew we were off to a bad start when we couldn’t get into the hotel. There was a sign on the door advising that access was through the pub. We found the right door inside the pub but naturally it was locked and eventually we got one of the bar staff to let us through. There didn’t seem to regular reception staff but there was a sign on the desk telling we needed to speak to bar staff to access the hotel. Unfortunately it wasn’t readable from outside the hotel. I did feel sorry for the bar staff who had to double up as receptionists. Since we had to go through the pub to get in and out of the hotel, we had to pass through a cloud of cigarette smoke each time. In the evenings it was sometimes difficult to get past them all. The room itself was nice; spare pillows on top of the wardrobe in ziplock bags! Everything was clean and comfortable; large double bed and two chairs. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits! The wifi was fine for the first hour or so but after that, no matter which device we were using, it cut out constantly. At first I suspected that it was a matter of too many users since it was probably shared with the pub but even at 8am I was having to log on 5 or 6 times in as many minutes. I don’t know if there are any ground floor rooms but in any case I wouldn’t have thought it a suitable hotel for wheelchair users. The lift is very small (2 people and an overnight bag made a crowd), although there is a ramp to the hotel entrance, you can’t get in that way and if you did get in, there are steps between reception and the lift. In addition I couldn’t spot a ramp into the pub and you’d have to run the gauntlet of smokers to get in. We didn’t eat at the hotel; we had breakfast there just after the first lockdown and wouldn’t eat there again. The food wasn’t bad; standard wetherspoons menu but the cleanliness seemed to depend on who was on duty. It wasn’t too bad when a couple of youngsters were on but the middle aged women were apparently waiting until they could clean all the tables in one go; crumbs, grease and dead flies. I can recommend the cafe at the Rothes Halls though.

I remember this place opening when I was a child in the sixties. I thought it was very posh. Anyhow, stayed for two nights while back visiting relatives. Room was okay ( think Premier Inn) and had hot chocolate and biscuits. Some street shouting but not too much given location above a pub. Went to reception to check-in but a note told you to use the pub entrance - went in but door to hotel was locked so had to find pub staff to sort us. Corridor was a bit smelly but room fine. Lots of banging during the night - could have been wind getting into ventilation shaft with loose fittings (we were on second floor at far end from pub). Also, to get in and out of hotel you have to go through a gauntlet of people smoking - so many once that my wife and I were separated! Room not serviced - but this may be something to do with Covid. Wi-fi kept cutting out. As I said, room was okay.

Went for dinner at their restaurant and ended up with a fine for parking in their car park. Zero communication from staff about having to register your vehicle. Shameless extortion. Good was mediocre. Staff spent their time in their mobiles and didn't have any customer service. Avoid at all costs.

Cannot recommend this place enough!! The staff really looked after us and the room was spotless and comfortable. Lovely hot shower (needs to run for a few minutes to heat up) with toiletries provided. Had reservations given how cheap the room was and we had booked last minute for a business trip but was pleasantly surprised. Fabulous, good value for money and the refillable all day coffee was just a bonus!! And the bar stocked a nice Marlborough wine!! Highly recommend the avocado muffins with halloumi for breakfast and the curries!! A little gem with fabulous, friendly staff

Staff are so disinterested in their duties you might as well cook and service yourself. Food is raw or burnt and lacking items on the menu. Excuses from uncaring and lack of training seems to be the standards. Shameful, this company use to stand for quality.

We stayed 2 nights at the golden acorn hotel, Glenrothes, the room was clean, modern with clean crisp bed linen, breakfast was extra but well priced and very tasty, service was good only waiting approx 10 minutes, overall a very decent hotel and well priced, don't pay to much attention to the negative reviews, judge for yourself.
