I was a regular customer for lunch as it was good value, with a good menu. I went last week during the eat for free scheme. I was very disappointed at the way they made a mockery of the scheme. Their poor attempt at social distancing was a joke. They hadn’t moved out any tables and basically filled the place. On top of that they had three members of staff dealing with customers and two working in the kitchen. They also supplied a much more restricted menu with inflated prices. We were there for an hour and a half and only received a main course. I felt sorry for the staff who were run off their feet. In my eyes they have tarnished their good reputation. It will be a while before I consider going back if ever.

This is a rather plain hotel, a bit dated, Rooms could do with a make over as they are fairly basic. We attended an evening function which was fine. Food a bit plan, Haggis Pakora an interesting fusion dish, Steak Pie was OK, meat a bit tough though. However the breakfast the next day was excellent, full Scottish with really good black pudding and haggis.

Not sure how to rate this place really. The staff were very helpful and couldn’t do enough and the evening food was good, (service stopped at 7pm), however, it depended which room you were in as to your experience. There were several of us staying. The rooms were freezing upon arrival until you switched the heating on and left it for a few hours. Some had comfy beds and some had poor quality beds. One persons shower went off when other people were showering! Some people
had to ask for tea & coffee things. TV’s varied from a small computer screen size to 32/40 inch. Breakfast was continental so nothing hot except toast. If you were at the front of the hotel their LED lights kept you awake as the curtain didn’t block out the light! All these things were mentioned to the staff who did their best. At present they seem to be doing building work their so maybe when they refurbish it they will do the other part too.

stayed with a group of friends that travelled up for a karate training event. The room was cold on arrival, and there was no heating on when we got in the room. the room was very basic. the TV in the room was the size of a postage stamp ! smaller than a PC monitor. Bed was very uncomfortable. I think the mattress was made in 1934. I could feel every spring in the mattress, and it creaked every time you moved. I stayed 3 nights and my bed was only made once by housekeeping and the sink in the bathroom not at all. breakfast was extremely poor. They called it continental, but it was more like Luft Stallag 19 ! nect to nothing and deffo not worth the money, croissants were burnt on the outside and still cold dough on the inside. The Staff were very nice however, we came back late from training on Friday and they kept the kitchen open for us, the food was good with good sized portion and reasonably priced. bar was nice and again reasonably priced drinks but they did run out of 2 draft beers by Sunday night! There are cheaper hotels from large national hotel chains to stay in town with more consistent rooms and facilities. I wouldn't stay here again unless they majorly sorted the problems out

It’s my first time with my son and wife’s family in Scotland , we went for a Christmas meal witch cost so much money we were paying £60 each. The soup was good and delicious, but I ordered turkey it was so bad and it was just 150 grams. It was with that for potatoes and little bit of vegetables with two sausages with bacon I wasn’t eating, The meal was so bad.
After we had Some cheesecake, chocolate cake and ice cream and some fruit salad and tea or coffee. When we were going home they said for us to pay for drinks which we were thinking that is all including with the meal …!
The staff were friendly and the place was fine. Just the meal was so bad
I will never come back to this place.

Boxing Day lunch was garbage. Had to keep reminding the staff what we ordered, food came out very unorganised some people at the table got their food whilst others had to wait a further 10-15mins longer on theirs, so we were all eating at different times. The staff kept forgetting what people ordered. £15.95 for the kids, they got a main meal and no desert. Had to pay £15.95 for a 4month old baby because he was taking a space but obviously wasn’t eating… £19.95 for the adults which was a good price, the food was fine, but half the adults didn’t get their deserts, the staff just completely ignored us asking for the missing deserts (they were all ordered at the start of the meal so no excuse for people not getting them) . I find it ridiculous that the kids did not get a desert, even an ice cream would have been fine. The place was packed, tables were squashed together. I left really disappointed, staff were no where to be seen . I would not recommend going to the Gilvenbank , the Boxing Day meal has put me off ever coming back.

I attended this hotel for a family 60th birthday dinner. The service was terrible, the food was ok but the food was brought out to quickly. We ordered out starters and main course at 1915 and we had finished both courses by 2000. Far to quick between courses. I personally ordered the lasagne which I had been looking forward to all day, only to be told 10 minutes after taking my order that there was no more lasagne left. My wife mushroom stroganoff was awful and she left most of it. The barman did not know what port was, he thought it was coke. The Baileys had been opened for months and the cream had curdled. we could not order any coffees as the coffee machine had been cleaned by 2000. It also looked as if they wanted rid of us as there was hardly anyone else in the place and the kitchen staff wanted to get home early. Needless to say, we will not be back. Shame on you Gilvenbank Hotel.

Gave this restaurant a try with my family. Never again, over priced poor quality food. A disgrace what they charge.
Starters, Nachos were an absolute joke, would have been as well just handing out a packet of basic Nachos. A paltry amount which were cold, next to no cheese and came with frozen guacamole & salsa.
Breaded Mushrooms, I got 5 overcooked for my £6.50.
Mains, the fish was dry, all our portions of chips were re-heats.
However, some good news, the Chicken Fajita wrap tasted very nice, but what a shame for £12.00 the 1 small wrap was accompanied with the poor quality chips.

We were greeted on arrival by a Basil Fawlty want to be, shirt needed ironing that’s for sure. There were bags & bags of linen all over the seating area & behind the reception desk, not what you want or expect to see.
Our room access was through 2 event rooms by a stairwell that had a large wedding frame dated back to 2022 & 2 stained & dirty mattresses by the fire door. Our room smelt damp & musty, large window that has no opening, the carpet had seen better days, TV remote didn’t work, poor reception, no real internet connection either. The disabled bathroom had a broken bath panel & needed a thorough clean.
We moved rooms for our 2nd night, this room was slightly better as it had windows that opened. The beds were uncomfortable & the springs pinged on moving, the mattress’s had no mattress protectors on which surely are basic hygiene requirements. There was so much mastic behind the taps which were also covered in black mould overall it was dirty & I felt the need to wear flip flops in the bath to have a shower & wear shoes at all times in the room.
Breakfast however was really good & the girls on breakfast duty were absolutely lovely,so helpful & cheerful & they did me a lovely vegan breakfast with peppers etc really couldn’t fault them.
Worst hospitality tray in the rooms ever though. Overall it’s a subpar hotel very dated & unclean.I’d not recommend this hotel nor would I stay there again.
As said only redeeming feature were the girls behind the reception counter & serving breakfast.

Just back from having afternoon tea. We will not be going back again . The food itself was ok , but the service was shocking.
The principle of high tea, I belive is you are served tea and toast whilst you pick your meal. Our drinks order was taken promptly, but the tea and toast never arrived, until another waitress mention that we were still waiting . The toast had barely seen a toaster !! . We had eaten a quarter of a slice when our main meal arrived, everything seemed rushed then!!. Steak pie was tasty but pastry was cold and slightly frozen I part. we were never offer another pot of hot tea to go with cakes.
The staff were not very friendly. Disappointing visit .

Hi this really depends on level of food offered but basic one is £6.25pp for sandwiches sausage rolls, tea, coffee and biscuits, obviously you can go up from that and add an arrival drink - best to call the hotel direct Thanks Stephen
