Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Recently returned from a weekend trip, this is the hotel we always stay at in St Andrews due to the fact it is pet friendly but also a beautiful standard of hotel. Unfortunately this has changed. We have always booked a Deluxe Double room to have the additional space with the dog. When we checked in and headed to our room, the genuine first thought was we had been given the wrong room. However, after querying with reception I was in fact told we were in a recently ‘upgraded and refurbished’ room. The so called refurbishment can only be described as awful. This hotel has changed from a beautifully presented modern look with classy furnishing to what can only be described as a cheap mix and match Bed and Breakfast set up with room furniture that wouldn’t look out of place in a garden centre. Our particular room was also much much smaller than any we have stayed in before with the amenities provided with a Deluxe Double crammed in and even restricting access to one side of the bed! The website unfortunately still shows images of how all of the rooms used to be presented leaving you to discover this shock on arrival and check in. Unfortunately will now need to find another hotel in St Andrews which truly is a shame!

The hotel is perfectly located. The rooms are comfortable, well equipped but a bit dated. They were renovating the hotel during our stay so it may be less dated in the future. The hotel staff are not the friendliest and there was no acknowledgement of the work being done starting at 8:30 in the morning . The restaurant is also sub par - we should have known since there were only 2 other couples eating there. I wouldn’t stay here again but the location can’t be beat.

What a great hotel in an excellent location close to the town centre and other historic attractions. Our room was spacious and bright with a lovely sea view and very comfortable bed, brilliant shower and quality toiletries. Good choice at the breakfast bar with freshly made cooked options. The staff were helpful and courteous especially Beth and Megan on reception and Shannon in the bar. Free parking is available outside the hotel but can be difficult to find a free space.

Welcoming hotel overlooking St Andrews bay. Greeted by friendly and knowledgeable reception staff Beth and Shannon, nothing too much trouble. Sampled some of the beverages in the bar served by a bubbly Jazz! Great selection of breakfast options, scrumptious! A dog friendly hotel and we will definitely return.

Tonight me and Gill headed off into the Kingdom of Fife for our Sunday tea and we ended up at Hotel Du Vin in St Andrews. The setting is stunning, you get great views of St Andrews beach, where scenes for the film Chariots of Fire were filmed, the theme to that movie is a beautiful piece of music by Vangelis..if you have Spotify well worth a listen. Anyway I digress! we were greeted by a friendly waiter who took us to our table, other staff that we dealt with were superb. I asked the waitress to compliment the chef on his food. I was told when he heard the news he burst into tears and whimpered in French “ Je n’épluche même pas les oignons!’’ Roughly translated “ I’m no even chopping onions”” I left them a tip and sung “ Ye canny shove yer granny off the bus” in a High energy disco style Staff ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Value⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Super friendly welcome at reception by Beth on my arrival. I felt like there was genuine care and helpfulness from her and all the staff I met in the hotel - at reception Eve, Tom during my evenings in the Bistro and Herve during breakfast service in the morning. The hotel is beautiful, room was luxurious and felt five star. Amazing views out to West Sands. Food in the Bistro at breakfast and dinner was delicious. I really couldn't fault a thing. Will be returning myself and would definitely recommend Hotel du Vin St Andrews to family and friends.
