Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed for two nights. I had a great wee room which was far too hot, but unlike some other old buildings, the windows opened and so I was very comfortable. Great wee shower, hairdryer, kettle and tv - what more could I need? Breakfasts were good, particularly the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon which was absolutely delicious. The two staff members I met were great, very professional and helpful. It’s an easy walk into the centre of St. Andrews and although there was no parking at the hotel, there is free long term parking within a 5 min walk. Thanks for looking after me so well!

Breakfast poor Meagre selection of cereals. The avocado toast had 1/2 salad tomato not vine tomato's and the portion was very small. The waiter had a personality bypass that being said he was efficient and polite. The rooms are dated but clean.

The guys at the Ardgowan sorted me out with a fantastic room at the top of the hotel with great views over the town. Very comfortable and lots of space. 5 minutes away from everything. Very friendly and good breakfast. Would definitely stay again

This was a gift from our son.Very nice traditional Scottish hotel, nicely decorated.Staff very friendly. The room was very nice but rather small, bit much room to move around. Bathroom also very small. Lovely breakfast in the morning, Nice choice of main breakfast, with the option if cereal and juice too. Well situated for the tourist.

Just returned from an overnight at the Ardgowan. My partner had bought this as an Itison deal for my Christmas. Unfortunately 3 days before Christmas he received an email to say deal could not be fulfilled. After a phone call with Chris this was all sorted as this had been an issue with itison and not with the hotel. Chris couldn’t have been more helpful and apologetic. He upgraded us to a deluxe room also. The room was amazing, the hotel was so clean, tidy and well decorated. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. We were checked out by Chris who again could not have been any nicer and again apologetic for the misunderstanding with itison. We will definitely be returning and will be sure to recommend the hotel to friend and family. Thanks again for making our first night away since newly becoming parents so enjoyable!

This is our 3rd year in a row staying at the Ardgowan and we had the best time again. Brilliant location, super clean, yummy breakfast and very comfy. And a special shout out to the manager, Christopher, who made our trip even better with all his chat. He couldn’t do enough for us.

I stayed at the Ardgowan Hotel, for 2 nights when attending a wedding with friends. Overall, the hotel is nice, good location. Reception staff in particular very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Bed very comfortable. Improvements…cleaning is slightly lacking. Edges of shower needed some work, crumbs beside the bed and a few cobwebs need to be removed.

This was stop #6 on our 2 week trip and was only for 1 night. Unbeknownst to us the Dunhill tournament was being played starting the next day - no wonder we had such a hard time finding a place for just 1 night and no wonder it was as expensive as it was. But we did get to walk around the Old Course and that was an unexpected pleasure! This hotel is older like the Grand Central in Glasgow but its dust didn't smell as old. TV didn't work and the smallest bathroom ever. But it was very clean and the room was large enough to spread some things around. Restaurant Playfair was excellent. Would go back.

Eight of us went on a golfing trip to Scotland. Overall, an outstanding experience (the people, golf courses, restaurants, etc). However, the contrast between our two hotels was notable. Hotel Ardgowan gets my WORST REVIEW EVER based on a number of factors. One, the rooms are small (and the shower/tub space even smaller). I don't recognize the hotel pictures. Second, I was put in the secondary building with a three story walk up. There is no air conditioning, and if you open the window, it is noisy as one is on a busy street. Third and most importantly, they lied to me on several occasions. I dropped off my laundry (cost of 15 pounds) at 8 am with the promise of a return by 6pm. I came down several times to retrieve my clothes but to no avail. I had to leave the next day and was promised that they would ship it to me. They told me they sent it and had a tracking number. I asked for the tracking number several times but they would not give it to me. I never received my clothes. I Do Not trust this establishment and STRONGLY recommend that no one stay here.

Dear travelluver222, It is disappointing to read your review as we have already rectified the issue for you and had been in constant communication with you throughout the process. As you have used a public platform to express your displeasure I would like to take this opportunity to clarify that we had never lied to you and nor do we lie to any of our customers. You were advised by my colleague that the laundry company we use aims to have the laundry back by 6pm the day of drop off but that this is not guaranteed and the latest you would receive it is 9am the following morning. You had chosen to use the service despite the warning and had then checked out at 3am. After we had received your laundry later that morning we had been in contact so we could send these items over to you. We had covered the cost of your laundry and the fee for posting these to you in Paris. Again, I am disappointed that you have chosen to write this negative review when we had made our best effort to ensure your property was returned to you Thank you Christopher Oliva General Manager

We spent 4 nights at the Ardgowan Hotel in St Andrew’s and had a wonderful experience. Our original room faced the road. I went to the front desk, and told Andrew that during booking I had asked for a room in the back. He happily moved us to another room. Our room was at the top of the staircase. The room was large, had two beds, a king bed and a twin. The room had gorgeous views of St Andrew’s golf course and the sea. It was quite, cool and dark, perfect sleeping conditions for this insomniac! We had breakfast every morning and it was delicious. There was granola, yogurt, fruit, pastries and hot cooked offerings from the kitchen. The location was great for everything we wanted to do. Golf, shopping and site seeing. We had 4 wonderful days in St Andrews and throughly enjoyed the Ardgowan.
