I spent 4 nights at Brownlees on an annual golf trip with friends and colleagues from work Offshore Abu Dhabi. The Guest House is located in a great location only 5 minutes walk from the high street and St Andrews Golf Links with free on-street parking outside the property. Jimmy the host, is welcoming and is there every day to prepare and serve Breakfast, which is absolutely wonderful with a great selection of starters, Cereals, Yoghurt and the hot food selection is first choice and caters for all needs, personally I had a Full Scottish Breakfast which set me up very nicely for a full day of golf. As a single visitor I was in a single room (6) which was more than adequate for my requirements, the room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, there were plenty of hangers available in the wardrobe, the bathroom/shower, was in a separate room adjacent to my room but this was okay for me. If you want to keep Golf Clubs with you in the property, Jimmy will keep them in safe storage for you. This was my first stay at Brownlees because in previous years I have stayed at other properties in the town, which were all full this year, so I was really pleased to find this absolute GEM OF A GUEST HOUSE at such a very reasonable rate. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone who is looking to stay in St Andrews and I will most definitely be back to stay. Ideally located close to all the Pubs, Bars, Restaurants, - (make sure you book tables well in advance for Dinner as all the restaurants are generally always busy), also Shops you may want to visit on your stay in St Andrews and not forgetting the famous St Andrews Links Golf Courses.

This place is fantastic! Quaint hotel that is two blocks from the 18th hole at the Old Course and centrally located. Jimmy is an exceptional host. Very kind and helpful. He knows the area including recommendations for golf and dinner options. Great stay!

A traditional style guest house, really comfortable with everything you could want. In a perfect location, few mins from bus station, town centre, beach and golf. Comfy bed, good shower, delicious breakfast. They were very accommodating of my dietary needs and I ate really well! Very good value for money

Sending your first kid off to college is stressful. Sending them to college in a foreign country, 3,000 miles from home in the middle of a pandemic is beyond stressful. In all of this the one thing that wasn’t stressful was my stay at Brownlees. From their prompt responses to my emails and calls to the delicious breakfasts and the inside info provided about St Andrews and the University, Jimmy and Elan provided a perfect “home” base for me while I got my son settled in his hall. Brownlees is perfectly situated within walking distance of the University, both beaches, shops and restaurants and the Old Course. I’m sure this won’t be our only trip to St Andrews over the next few years, and I’m already looking forward to my next stay at Brownlees.

Had to put a review on here. Stayed in the single room for 4 nights. Very clean, bathroom and toilet were next door so separate from the room but was only used by you. What i was really impressed with was the breakfast. Small things surprised me, the coffee was really good and the owner poured out the first cup which was a nice touch. Fresh fruit salad was also a surprise, cut into small pieces for you, even removing the pips from the grapes! Altogether a great find, highly recommended 👍

My partner and I stayed in St. Andrews for a few nights at the Brownlees Guest House. Excellent location with an average room. Our room was on the 3rd floor and was very small compared to others B&B’s on our trip. Room was a little bigger than the bed with a desk area against the window. Fine for 2 nights but extra space is always nice. The bathroom was tiny but fine for what we needed. The room and bath were clean. WiFi worked pretty well the entire stay. The house is noisy. Being on the 3rd floor and sharing the floor with others who shared a bathroom in the hallway, doors were opening and closing all night and early morning. Breakfast was good, limited vegetarian options, but Jimmy cooked us toasties with only cheese and baked beans. The dining room also offered juices and yogurt. Location was excellent for touring the city. Close to many restaurants and cafes, sites of interest and the ruins of St. Andrews Cathedral and Castle. Parking is an issue, no parking at the B&B, street parking is available if you can find a spot that’s close and free.

Myself and three colleagues recently stayed at Brownlees during the Dunhill Links Championship. This was our second stay at the Guest House and both occasions we were treated to exceptional hospitality. The rooms are extremely comfortable, the breakfasts are fantastic and Jimmy and his wife are very warm and welcoming. I cannot recommend it enough.

Simply the best fruit salad ever. Jimmy and the Missus serve one helluva a Scottish breakfast. Jimmy said he has guests come just for the food and I believe it. The site is two minutes from the Old Course and stumbling distance from several pubs. The only downside is our room has a bed and that's it.

Our group of 4 golfers stayed at the 'Brownlees Guest House' for five nights this past August. The rooms were well appointed, quiet, very clean, and perfect for our needs. Host Jimmy and his wife (and chef) Elan were wonderful - very attentive and helpful with suggestions for non-golf activities. Elan's breakfasts were cooked per request and quite special. They were kind enough to prepare a take-away breakfast for one of the days we had early tee times. Location is perfect - a short walk to the courses, dining & pubs. Cannot recommend enough.

We had the pleasure of staying 3 nights at this little gem. Fantastic location- parking was not an issue with street parking right outside. Our host Jimmy was a wealth of information about the area (and particularly golf courses). Breakfasts were beautifully cooked by his talented (chef) wife. Many lovely thoughtful touches from coffee machine in our room, complimentary Sherry, fruit basket in the dining room, rain ponchos and umbrellas if needed as well as enough books to keep anyone happy if you are having a quiet day. It is a B & B with a flight or two of stairs to climb but don’t let that put you off! Short stroll to Saint Andrews and close to everything! I highly recommend and hope to revisit in the future!
