Nestled in a prime location near the SEC and vibrant local nightlife, the Argyll Hotel is a favorite for many travelers, offering commendable service and a warm welcome that stand out. Guests have called out the hotel's good value, despite some remarks about the modest room sizes and additional breakfast costs.
While the amenities and cleanliness meet expectations, featuring comfortable rooms and well-maintained bathrooms, there's a consensus on the potential for more luxurious features and general updates. The hotel's atmosphere and traditional Scottish decor contribute to its charm, even as some suggest it could benefit from a refresh.

Detailed Reviews
I was in town for a concert at SWG3 and noticed that the Argyll Hotel was one of the closest hotels, being a mere 13 minute easy walk from the venue. This was a huge selling point for me as I was travelling alone, it was dark and the weather was due to be terrible.
I booked a flexible rate direct on the hotel's website to benefit from the discount and they checked my card was valid with a £1 shadow payment in advance. I paid the balance when I checked in.
I arrived before 3pm and the check in with the English girl with the septum piercing was swift and friendly. I was in a standard single room up on the second floor (206) which faced out on to Sauchiehall Street. The window was open so the room was nicely aired out and it smelled really clean.
The bathroom was absolutely spotless, there were 3 towels which was fab (the hand towel although clean, was raggedy around the edges and definitely fit for the bin and should never have been put in the room by housekeeping). The shower was extremely hot & powerful (I would suggest future guests take care not to have the setting on too high to prevent the floor from flooding as the shower screen is not long enough to keep the water in, even when being careful).
The single bed although small was perfectly clean and comfortable for my needs. I very much appreciated having a desk (although the chair upholstery has seen better days). There were plenty of sockets for charging equipment on the desk but none that were easily accessible near to the bed which I usually prefer (there was one just obscured by the bedframe).
I didn't use the television, phone or tea/coffee making facilities but these were all available. The free Wi-Fi worked well and I was grateful for it.
I had a really comfortable, quiet night's sleep and I found the hotel generally very peaceful.
Checkout at 11am was an extremely welcome benefit due to the inclement weather and I enjoyed the continuity of being checked out by the same receptionist that checked me in. She asked about my stay and seemed genuinely interested in the answer which was lovely to see.
For £42.30 in this area of Glasgow, I felt the value for money was good and I can't emphasise enough how clean my room was. Top marks to the housekeeping staff (just bin that towel :) )
If I needed to be in this area again, I would actively seek out booking this hotel again.
Thank you :)

We stayed at The Argyll Hotel on a Saturday and Sunday night, and both nights were quiet. Within walking distance of city centre ( if you don’t mind a good 20 min walk). Hotel clean, breakfast good, room was a bit on the small side, but to be expected for an old building. On street parking free at weekends, we got a permit from Reception for £2 to park Monday morning.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback about your time in our hotel. We're glad you enjoyed your time with us and found it convenient to your travels! The rooms were very clean & the staff were very helpful. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The restaurant staff could not have been more helpful & obliging especially Linda. There are family rooms & double rooms. The car park was very small & there is a daily charge of £4 to park on the street. The only negative is that the decor could be updated especially the carpet. The shower was amazing, possibly one of the best I've experienced. The beds were ok but from a personal point of view a bit hard but they were very clean. Location wise it's about 30 mins walk to city centre but there are plenty buses & a train station a 5min walk away. Even though we had a front room with window to main road it was not noisy.

Our review is in two parts
1 Amenities: situation of hotel was ideal for anyone visiting Glasgow. For a 3 star hotel it was great value for money and everywhere was clean, room was comfortable and there was an added bonus of being attached to a great Vegan Restaurant called Soul Kitchen. As vegans we were not expecting to be accommodated for so well. On arrival we were asked if we wanted a normal or vegan breakfast. There was a great choice of vegan evening meals and raw cake desserts.
2 Staff In general we found the staff very pleasant particularly those serving breakfast. However we were disappointed with the attitude of one of the reception staff (red hair) who was very off hand at checkout. No recognition, no eye contact and no hint of a “Did you enjoy your stay?” or “ Thanks for staying.” Just a surly” “ Put your card over there” without even looking up from what she was doing. This was a bad end to an otherwise enjoyable stay.

Very disappointed with our ‘so-called’ twin room. It was tiny and, with only a small velux window and a sharply sloping ceiling, very claustrophobic. There was a small dresser which couldn’t be used as there was only room on it for the TV and kettle. The decorative cushions could only be placed on the single chair or on the floor and as there was nowhere, other than the floor for bags to be placed, this meant blocking the door to the en-suite. It was also hot as hell in the room (the receptionist did provide us with a fan for the 2nd night). Having seen the size of the other twin rooms in our corridor, which were roomy with plenty of space to work, we really feel that we did not get value for money. The room in question is 408 – avoid at all costs. Seriously, this was the most uncomfortable couple of nights I have spent since backpacking in India.
Furthermore, as I am disabled, I called the hotel a number of times regarding the parking facilities. On each occasion I was assured that there was plenty of available parking in the street and a number of disabled spaces too. This turned out to be complete tosh and we ended up parking 4 streets away. If I had been on my own, I would have been completely unable to reach the hotel (the loading bays outside the hotel were full despite signs saying not to park there). Judging by the conversations we heard while checking out, this was obviously a problem for new guests checking in.
On the plus side, the waiting staff in the restaurant serving breakfast were absolutely brilliant and nothing was too much trouble for them. Followed by a shout out to the lady in reception who procured the fan.

I spent the last week at the Argyll Hotel and could not have enjoyed my stay more (particularly during these strange times). The staff were friendly, helpful and reassuring; making sure that hygiene and guest safety was prioritised during all interactions. The room was spotless and the bed extremely comfortable. The breakfast was also top-notch and Linda, the server, made me feel welcome and looked after throughout my meal. Looking forward to my next stay immensely.

If you smoke at all, be very aware that this hotel will charge you £100 for any smell of smoke even if just from your clothes. Despite going outside every single time to smoke, and being seen by reception staff and most likely on CCTV, they charged £100 saying they could smell smoke and had seen tobacco on side table. There was no smoking in the room whatsoever and yet they have charged £100. There is no sign saying you can’t bring tobacco in or wear clothes that smell of cigarettes. Only no smoking in the hotel which was followed. Despite phone calls and emails they are not willing to reverse the charge. This is a bordering on a scam and is a very distressing and costly charge that in no way was justified. Avoid this hotel!

Hello Pamela, We are sorry to hear you are frustrated by the smoking charge. Please note smoking in any Hotel room has been illegal since 26 March 2006. We would never charge a guest for their "clothes smelling like smoke". We only make a charge if we find evidence in the room which we are happy to pass on to you if you get in touch. We had several complaints from other guests about the smell coming from the room. The very pungent smell of smoke from the room meant we were unable to sell your room the night after causing a revenue loss to the hotel. Our housekeeping team had to use special equipment to purify the air. I can ensure you it is not "bordering on a scam" guests are made well aware of the consequence of smoking in our rooms on arrival. It is clearly stated on the registration form you sign before you entering the room. We also have serval notices around the hotel which reiterate this is a non-smoking hotel. We are sorry for any inconvenience or "distress" this may have caused you but our policies are in place for a reason. We wish you all the best.

Pretty standard city centre hotel. Decor is dated however rooms are clean and the bed was comfortable. Excellent location to base yourself to explore Glasgow. Some noise can be heard from the rooms on a Friday and Saturday night however this is part and parcel of staying in a city and was not exceptionally loud. Restaurant looked nice however opening times are quite limited and I unfortunately did not get to visit, this did not impact my stay as there are so many great places to dine in the surrounding streets. I particularly recommend the Ox and Finch, where the food is outstanding. This hotel is nothing special but budget friendly and good value for money. Reception team are very helpful - they allowed me to store my luggage safely on my final day in the city and even let me borrow a phone charger as mine broke during my trip. Should I return to Glasgow on a budget I would certainly stay again!

Hi ,
So I would like to make a complaint about my stay, which I wasn’t very happy with and won’t be back .
First of all let me say I will be sending this email then leaving a lengthy review for everyone to see .
As we got into our room there was a stain on the double bed not the middle or bottom but at the top , highly Unhygienic , and not acceptable . No one answered the phones to deal with this situation.
2. We had PAID For breakfast included to which your server placed my child’s breakfast down to them and because it was the wrong egg I asked it to be changed to then be shouted at “that’s not what you ordered I’ll get your order and marched away . To which your server then came back to my table while my self partner and 3 children were sitting to shout again “. Your server didn’t ask what eggs he wanted so presumed yet that was my child’s fault I do not come to a hotel to be shouted at in a full restaurant of people or in-front of my family when im the paying customer.
3. I asked for scrambled eggs for my own breakfast to which they never came so I was left without one as my family had then finished to which they still never came so we left
4. The BINS out side your property at the back . Absolutely disgusting and I think you should have pest control out there with the amount or rats at them or get the bag put in the bins & then empty. Absolutely disgusted and unacceptable for a hotel to have rats floating about out side of it . Especially when your charging £134 per night .
I will be requesting a full compliant be made and I will be calling the environment health too.

We arrived quite late after many hours driving to the Argyll and were pleasantly surprised that the room was decorated as it was my birthday. However, the room we were given smelt of damp and could have done with a good clean. The night manager was kind enough to change the room for us to a much better, spacious and clean room. We had an evening meal at the italian restaurant downstairs. The food was delicious but the pictures on the website don't reflect the current decor. We didn't book breakfast in advance but when we came down to the restaurant the next morning, there was no explanation as to what breakfast options were available. No buffet was served, which you would normally expect, especially at the costly price point. Also there is no onsite parking and the town is deserted, but obviously that isn't the hotels fault. All in all, we had a great night sleep but in my opinion the hotel could do with a complete refurb.

Hello, I'm really sorry but I think you have the wrong hotel. We don't have an Italian restaurant and have no record of your staying here over the last month. regards to the "No Buffet served" I can't speak for your hotel cause I don't know if it's even in Scotland but due to the COVID government guidelines buffets are banned at the moment. We hope this review finds its right home. Have a lovely day
