Based right in the heart of Glasgow, adjacent to Queen Street Station and Buchanan Street and with the airport bus service stopping right at our door, we are the perfect city centre base. We are four star rated, and each of our 64 bedrooms feature a complimentary Minibar and decanted spirits, multi channel LCD TV with Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3, desk, and bathroom with bath and power shower to ensure you have a comfortable and relaxing stay while you are with us. WiFi is free for the duration of your stay, and so are local phone calls. National calls are just 3p per minute. Located on the 7th floor of the hotel, Windows is Glasgow's only rooftop restaurant. Windows Restaurant serves delicious dishes created with local produce with menus changing to reflect what's in season. In fact, the food is only matched by the view over the rooftops of Glasgow! Breakfast is served in Windows in the morning, or can be delivered to your room. Guests can enjoy complimentary soft drinks, snacks and coffee throughout the day, and complimentary wine, beer and selected spirits each evening in the Executive Lounge located on the 7th floor. The lounge also features the Thomson Boardroom, ideal for meetings or private dining for up to 12 people. At the Carlton George Hotel we've worked hard to create a comfortable and informal setting where you can make yourself at home and relax, but still experience fantastic service.

The Carlton George Hotel garners appreciation for its central location, ideal for guests eager to explore nearby attractions. While many visitors commend the cleanliness and the generous complimentary minibar, opinions are mixed regarding the overall value, with some guests finding the food and room experience lacking for the price.
The staff is often celebrated for their attentive service, though reports of inconsistency arise during peak times. Despite praise for spacious rooms, the hotel's decor and amenities are frequently described as outdated and in need of an update.

Detailed Reviews
This Hotel was an excellent choice for our Glasgow break. The staff on arrival were welcoming and very friendly at all times during our three night stay. The room was lovely and spacious, with a very comfortable large bed. The complimentary mini bar in the room was a very nice extra touch and it was very well stocked and also restocked every day, which included the spirit decanters! The Charlton George is in an fantastic location right in the centre of Glasgow beside the beautiful George Square and close to many good bars and restautants and shops. We were attending a musical and a concerts and it was very easy to get to our venue by public transport from the hotel. The Airport Express bus also stopped right outside the foyer.which was great. Everything about the Carton George ticked all our boxes, I will definitely be reccomending it to friends and family and hopefully we will return again.( Oh and just one last detail a brillent powerful hairdryer in the room which was a bonus that many hotel do not have)

+1
I really liked this hotel, it’s not a modern hotel but it’s got everything you need, the rooms are large, clean and comfortable, depending on which package you pay for your mini bar is complimentary and you get access to the executive lounge on the 7th floor where you’re waitered service drinks are included in the price of your room, that’s correct a free bar in very relaxed and comfortable surroundings.
Really good staff who can’t do enough for you and the breakfast was good as well.
It’s a 1 minute walk from Glasgow Queen street station in 1 direction and 1 minute from the Glasgow subway in the other, all the City centre bars and restaurants are within 10 minutes stroll and is right in the city ideal for exploring
I will definitely use this hotel again

Absolutely loved this hotel. Agree with some other reviews saying some areas need a little bit of TLC. However it will not spoil your stay at the hotel at all. The staff are second to none, helpful friendly and attentive. Location is so central and the club lounge is incredible value for money serving pastries, fruit & yogurt in the morning, afternoon tea and then snacks such as cheese & biscuits and alcoholic drinks in the evening. The staff in the lounge really look after you. Would highly recommend the hotel. We had a fabulous time celebrating our anniversary. Thank you.

Hello shaundsm thank you for the 5 bubble review and taking time out to write it. I also agree that some aspects in some rooms need changed due to wear and tear. We were due a refurb before covid and that has now been put on hold. Thank you for mentioning that this does not effect your stay with us and you love our hotel. Glad you had a fantastic stay at the Carlton George Glasgow. Kind regards Monica Ross

Stayed here Saturday 8th Feb for one night. Club room with lounge access.
Location is excellent although you have to park half a mile away in the NCP. Storm Ciara made this an unpleasant walk to the hotel.
Greeted by a friendly and helpful guy on the desk. Dropped off our bags and went out to meet our son who is studying in Glasgow.
Came back with son later as we were going out for dinner. There is no bar at the hotel and so we went to the lounge for a drink. We could not bring in our son or even pay for him to have a drink with us so he left and we had one drink and also left. There were people in the lounge making the very most of the complimentary drinks so we were disappointed the he could not get a drink even though we would happily have paid for it. There are no other areas in the hotel open to the public.
The complimentary mini bar was good and well stocked. We made the most of this as we could not talk to our son in the lounge. The bar next door was packed because the rugby was on.
The bedroom was a good size although in need of an update, and the bedding was not great quality.
Breakfast was another disappointment.Self service buffet that had run out of a number of key items (bacon and sausage). When i asked if these would be replenished I got a look that suggested is half a tomato scrambled eggs and some boiled mushrooms not enough for you? No option on how you would like your eggs cooked so if you don't care for scrambled then tough. The bacon and sausages eventually arrived but not really worth the wait.
Essentially we found that the hotel fell short in many areas of what I would expect from a 4 star hotel costing over £200 a night, and next time we are in Glasgow we will return to the Dakota which although not such a convenient location ticks all the other boxes.better.
That said the hotel was ok and the desk staff were very good.

Dear Demondriller1 Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you felt let down on a few things. Our Executive Lounge is exclusively for the use of residents of the hotel, and we do not permit residents to bring in family or friends to use the lounge. This rule is applied to the majority of hotels with lounges, so we are not unusual in this. I am sorry that you were disappointed with breakfast, this shouldnt have been the case and its a pity that we were not able to rectify this at the time. Thank you again for your feedback. Kind regards Monica

We checked reviews of this hotel and it looked fab so booked without hesitation.Check in was fab and recepionist was efficent and freindly, even cave us complimentary t cakes.room was lovely with complimentary mini bar, again couldnt fault it at all.we were allocated a slot in executive lounge 5 until 7.30, service was brilliant and we tipped the waitressto show our appreciation, followed by our lunch at 7,30.Food was superb and again service was brilliant.
Unfortunatley thats when things started to slip a little. After lunch about 9,30 i decided id like to go up to the room feeling contented with nice food and wine, lol my wife said she would pop down for a nightcap at the bar then be back up shortly which was fine, she asked the receptionist where the bar was told be told the bar was shut !! 10.30pm,,so she went to the pub waxy oconnors which the hotel promotes to be refused access by a very rude doorman saying she would need to book??so feeling offended my wife returned to rewception to ask whereshe could get a drink,to then be directed to another bar away from the hotel, totally unacceptable for a lone female.at no time were we offerd room service.
The following morning breakfast was booked for 10,30 which was great we arrive at restaurant and were promptly seated. Our waitress asked us if we would like tea or coffee and sure enough she brought our pot of tea after about anothe ten minutes, she said ill pop back in a minute for your order, without exageration it would be another 20 minutes before she returned to take our order,in the meantime another party had enterd been seated and indeed been served!! so we eventually orderd to full scottish breakfasts eventually the breakfast arrived with sloppy scrambled eggs plopped onto of my potatoe scone and a sausage that had obviously been kept warm for some time "POOR"this nights accomodation cost in excess of £250 with extras we spent and we felt very dissatisfied,to top every thing off nobody asked if we were happy with our stay at check out.I emailed the hotel as soon as we were home to await there response to these issues, but alas im still waitng for a reply 2 weeks later.Could be such a great hotel as location is amazing, but some staff training is deffinatley required.

Responded 17 Sept 2020
Dear Garrym Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at the Carlton George Hotel. I am sorry that you feel you received poor customer service from the team. This is surprising as the overall feedback regarding service is normally very good, which you can see for yourself from other reviews. I am sorry that you had an issue with breakfast, this was not mentioned at the time, otherwise we would have tried to resolve this for you. I have been able to trace your booking, and I can see that the bill was slightly below £199 for 2 people dinner, bed, breakfast and lounge access. I have refunded the cost of breakfast to your card, and you will see this within the next 5 working days. We will forward receipt to you to confirm. I am sorry that there appeared to be confusion regarding access to a nightcap. It would have been explained on check in, as well as the information given at check in and again in the numerous pre stay e mails we send, that we have to adhere to the government policies regarding track and trace and also social distancing. Therefore the Executive Lounge is only available after 5pm to guests within the time slot allocated, and it also states the closing times on the material received on check in. When your wife came to the desk to ask for the executive lounge, it was late so it was closed. I am sorry that during the request for a drink there seemed to be confusion. Had the team been asked for room service or for a drink to be brought to the room, this could have been done, but she asked where she could go to get a drink, which the team member assumed she was happy to go and wanted to go into Waxys, and at this point they were not asked for room service. The team wouldn't question this as many of our residents male and female travel, dine and drink on their own. With regards to being refused access by the security within Waxy's, it is correct that bookings are required, although where they can, Waxys will allow for walk in bookings, however on this occasion, the pub must have been full. There may have been other mitigating circumstances at that time, which meant no entry. Again, social distancing and track and trace are at the forefront of our safety within both businesses and we are adhering to guidelines. I would like to thank you for your feedback. Kind regards Monica

Spent an overnight stay at this Hotel. Lovely open fire just inside the entrance and very welcoming staff who presented us with a small bag each containing shortbread. We had a superior room with complimentary mini bar 3 cut glass decanters and relevant drinking glasses,(whisky, vodka and gin). Small bottles of red and white wine, bottles of beer, and mixers tonic, lemonade, cola, sparkling and still water. Decor is in a Scottish vibe with tribute to Rennie Mackintosh. Very comfortable bed.
Dinner was excellent in a rooftop restaurant with an open kitchen as was breakfast with a selection of hot and cold food. The view over the rooftops seen to its best at breakfast.
This was a Christmas gift from my son and daughter-in-law and was a lovely idea.
The hotel is located in the heart of Glasgow and had an Irish themed bar next door. Would highly recommend a visit here.

We booked in last weekend and were delighted with every aspect of our stay, in particular the friendly staff, high standards of cleanliness and observation of Covid guidelines. Staff were visibly keeping everything clean, wearing appropriate face coverings and ensuring everybody behaved safely but without being intrusive or confrontational...an absolute pleasure, we’ll be back! 👍😀

Great hidden treasure in the centre of Glasgow.
Although we have stayed there many times in the past, l won a free night with breakfast in the hotel through a competition on their website.
The stay was perfect from start to finish.
On arrival the girl on reception was so cheery and very helpful, nothing was a problem.
The room itself was spotless and a nice touch having decanters with vodka, gin and whisky with beer cola etc in the fridge all included with the room.
Bathroom was also spotless with decent power in the shower and plenty shower gel, shampoo etc.
With the room you can also book a 2 hr slot in the executive lounge where you are served drinks of your choice and given some small snacks, all free of charge.
The girl serving there was also very attentive and very cheery.
We didn’t eat dinner in the restaurant but had breakfast in the morning.
The sausage and bacon etc is supplied by a local butcher, so is of good quality .The staff were also very attentive and cheery there also.
All in all I just can’t fault the hotel 10 out of 10

I never thought I would give a hotel who’s rooms are a little dated 5 stars but the Carlton George deserves it & more, yes the rooms are a little dated but what they provide in the room & hotel supersedes that from the lovely tartan slider slippers to the free mini bar, sweeties, crisps, biscuits, the Isle of Arran soaps in the bathroom.
The king size bed was 1 of the most comfortable iv ever slept on & the massive TV was great.
Our deal was for a club room this gave us access to the private lounge where complimentary food, drinks are available all day we went for a cuppa tea after a day of shopping & not only did we get tea we got afternoon tea sandwiches cakes lovely warm scones & it was all included.
This is where we will be staying anytime we come to Glasgow a great wee place full of lovely touches & surprise extras.
