This hotel is a great place to stop. We stayed for one night last week, slap bang next to Glasgow Central Station. You're in the City Centre. My room was spotless, great bed and tea, coffee, bottles of water, biscuits big tv, hairdryer, toiletries. Everything you could want. The window was great, I was able to sit on the window sill with my coffee and watch Glasgow get up on the morning. The bar is one of the cheapest I have ever found and is a wasted resource because hardly anyone uses it. It's like a gentleman's club in the nicest way. And the breakfast lounge! Wow! Talk about chandeliers! It's stunning. The breakfast, included in the price is a buffet (hot) and all the usual cereals etc is brilliant. Stay here, it might look like its in a funny bit of the city but this time in 5 years it's all going to look very different. By the way, there's a wee pub on the corner that does karaoke if you like that sort of thing and a Weatherspoons about 200m away with a Co-op next door. Staff are lovely and helpful. We'd definately go back.…
large room, partially renovated, good bed, very close to night life and city center (but we had no noise problems).good breakfast in terms of choice (had hot and cold) and quantity . quality of hot food was mediocre (didnt like their eggs especially-yokes were like hard boiled eggs for sunny side up although whites were ok -would have preferred scrambled eggs. overall happy with the experience economical decent hotel.…
Stayed here for 2 nights for the Great Scottish Run. Hotel staff were all great. Room on spotless and large. Breakfast was ample and good. The first night we had a really poor night's sleep due to the unbelievable noise (I knew it was in the city centre) from outside. Loud karaoke from the Waterloo bar next door, and street traffic was unbelievably loud! If the rooms were double glazed this would be be so bad.…
We stayed at the Alexander Thomson for a couple of nights while we went to see Still Game Live. The hotel is ideally placed for Central Station and the city centre, also an easy 20/25 min walk along the river to The Hydro. The hotel has a certain faded elegance about it, its clean and tidy but requires some maintenance to tidy it up. The breakfast was a buffet and there was plenty but some elements of a Scottish breakfast are just no suited to a buffet, the ingredients weren't the best quality bur overall it was ok. Be aware when booking, we had a triple room booked for us, normally a triple would consist of a double and a single bed, this one was actually 3 single beds. We paid £265 and that was way too much for the two nights. Not a good view either, a derelict building across the street. It was ok for the two nights but too pricey.…
Handy to Central Station although not an easy walk with luggage due to nearby building work. My room was huge and well appointed. Comfy bed, in-room safe, but no fridge or air conditioning. The corridors are a bit of a maze – and while there are signs pointing to the room numbers, there are no corresponding signs pointing back to the lifts which would be really helpful. Incredibly noisy with traffic continuing until late and then starting up again early. Also music noise from a nearby venue at the weekend. However, my main recommendation would be – DO NOT book directly with the hotel. Use a booking site instead. I booked directly, twice, for two separate stays. Both times their website stipulated “full prepayment at time of booking” and again “full payment charged at time of booking”, so I entered my card details. I suppose I was lucky that I still had two bookings because, when I got to the hotel, on both occasions I was asked how I wanted to pay. No payment had actually gone through. I should have checked with my bank after making the booking, but I have never encountered this problem before. Would not stay here again.…
