Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having stayed in over 20 hostels in my lifetime, this one was by far the worst (and I’ve stayed in a hostel where someone has pissed all over the floor). The ‘receptionist’ at the hotel desk was absolutely horrible and should be fired. He shouldn’t be working in customer service as he has disgraceful manners and was incredibly condescending. We booked a DELUXE 4 bedroom, and we’re told upon arrival (after having paid and checked in, might I note) that there would be another person staying in our room. When I tried to disagree, he told me very rudely that he was doing us a favour by letting us stay in a 6 bedroom as he was losing out on money (but technically we were losing out on money as we were paying individually and it would have worked out cheaper with more people in one room). When I tried to argue, he said ‘please, don’t be difficult’ as if I were a child. I spent my first night of Glasgow crying because this man had truly ruined my stay. And, due to the stress of the situation, I was incredibly ill the next day with an extreme miagrain. Later on the next day when I could finally manage the strength to stand, I saw the receptionist was smoking weed outside the hotel while two men were waiting to check in, completely ignoring his duties. I wonder if his boss or the hostel owner knows that this is how he behaves. We were also told that there was a kitchen but it was locked the entire time. One of my friends asked if he could unlock it, to which he replied ‘yes’ and then walked away without doing anything. Also, if you’re reading this and thinking ‘ah it’s one guy, he probably won’t be working when I go’, then think again. Because he’s there all the bloody time, not doing his job. I can’t put into words how awful this place was without using a long line of extremely colourful language. Please do not stay here. And if you’ve stayed here and had a similar experience, make sure to spread the word.

Don’t let the pretty name deceive you, this place honestly has some of the worst customer service I have ever seen. We booked a room for 4 as we were a group of 4 travelling and when we arrived we were thrown in a room of 6 with someone else! Although this other guest was a lovely person it wasn’t ideal when you want and have paid for privacy. The receptionist was rude the whole time , constantly being blunt and even told us we should be grateful to be in a 6 bed room as it’s more expensive (which is wasn’t ). At one point we returning from Glasgow and came across two gentlemen with bags trying to figure out where to go and why no one was at the reception. While this was happening the receptionist was smoking and drinking outside the entrance with his mate , ignoring these two individuals walking up and down the stairs, looking lost and frustrated. The rooms themselves although not terrible were also very impractical with a tv and a kettle but with no plug socket where they could actually be used! The kitchen was also locked the whole time and when I went down to see if it could be opened no one was at the reception of course! Do not ! I repeat do not go to tartan lodge. Tainted my whole image of Glasgow.

I just have no words to describe how we have been treated. We are family with a child. We have booked through Booking.com. On arrival they told us they were overbooked! Despite the confirmation email of our booking. It was 10.30pm and we never been to Glasgow before and didn't know where to go. We have not been offered anything else nor recommendation what so ever. We had to call a few places ourselves and luckily we have found something elsewhere. The place itself very suspicious. Drunk people outside in front of the main entrance. Whilst we were waiting in the reception for some sort of explanation they were only couples coming in and out... They probably assumed we not gonna turn up and rented our room for an hour or two... Disgusting! Overall maybe it was good for us as a family that they were 'overbooked'. AVOID!!!

I booked a reservation from a Thursday to Sunday and requested check in for 6am Friday morning. I was told by telephone reception that this would be fine that a note would be added to the system to allow for this. However, when I arrived at Tartan Lodge, there was noone available in reception. I waited 30 minutes for someone to come to the reception desk and tried to check in. I was then told by the staff member that I would have to pay extra money to check in due yo the time of arrival. Even after I explained the arrangement made with the telephone staff the day before and the fact that I had paid for the previous night also, the staff member insisted on receiving extra payment. When I refused to pay extra fees, the staff member told me I need to leave and WALKED OFF leaving me in the reception area. As a result, I had nowhere to stay after working a night shift and was not able to arrange alternative accommodation until later that afternoon. Since raising this complaint with Tartan Lodge I received no response at all and Booking.com have stated that they are unable to compensate me due to having no response from Tartan Lodge in relation to the specific complaint points made. It's also worth mentioning that whilst waiting for someone to come to reception, I saw the kitchen area which was absolutely filthy. Overall this was by far the worst experience I have had with any accommodation and I would not recommend anyone stay at Tartan Lodge.

I stayed here not long ago, and I thought it was an ok couple days here with friends for a night out. But then it turns out that’s I had my iPod stolen from my room by one of the staff. When I arrived it was a skinny girl with long blonde hair that was on shift at the time and was acting quite shady. She acted all nice and polite but I don’t think this is the case. Cause once I came back with ma pal to this hotel my iPod that was charging in the room was then gone.

The hostel is a little far from the city center but it is the cheapest option. The hostel is large and has many rooms. My friend and I had problems at check-in and the staff ended up putting us in a room just for the two of us. Cleaning is ok. Quiet to spend the night.

This is THE WORST PLACE I EVER STAYED AT IN MY LIFE!!!!! I STAYED HERE FOR 4 DAYS.... IT TOOK15 HOURS TO CHANGE A BATHROOM LIGHT BULB! I Emailed the manger regarding this matter as the staff told me to do. I was hoping to get a small refund for this problem. No answer from manger even after 24 Hrs. I Paid extra to have A private bathroom and this is what I got.... STAFF WAS POORLY TRAINED when I asked A simple question The staff kept telling to email the manager even for simple about questions about anything. Save your money go somewhere else I would never stay here again!!!!

Place is absolutely stinking, wouldn’t let my dog stay there, the stale smell of pee hits you as soon as you walk down the corridors to your room. My friends and I didn’t even last the night the smell was that strong and the rooms were that bad we ended up just leaving to go home. Honestly don’t ever book here!
