Mixed feelings about my stay. My room was very large with a massive bed and situated at the rear of the building with an interesting view across the back garden and the roof tops of Glasgow. The hosts were pleasant and Tom offered to take my case up to my room. He was very apologetic about the untidiness in the common areas and explained they had only just started taking in guests again after a break. In all honesty it looked as if the clutter had been there quite a time, old brochures and paperbacks plus several cardboard boxes. There was a small fridge in the room plus facilities for tea or coffee making but only a portable heater however the room did warm up eventually. It was not en-suite but the bathroom was literally next door. I found the bed very uncomfortable but I do have a problem with my joints and rarely sleep well in a strange bed so this would probably not be an issue for someone else. I couldn't get the shower to run warm and checking the water temperature from outside the cabinet, because of the position of the shower head, caused the water to spill out onto the floor when I opened the door to check so I gave up and had a strip wash in my room. There was no soap in the shower but hand-wash at the sink in the bathroom and also the sink in my room so I used that. Breakfast is included in the price and a reasonable variety of cereals available but no yoghurt and the toast had been prepared earlier and was not warm. The hot food, eggs, bacon, baked beans etc were a generous amount but not served individually to guests on plates but just put on the table in bowls which soon got cold. It's a beautiful old house in a very quiet area of Glasgow but only a short distance to the centre with plenty of on street parking but the interior is very tired looking with worn out carpet and splits in the wallpaper in the corners of the rooms. Again Tom was very apologetic about this and explained that they simply could not afford to do more than basic maintenance after 3 years of having virtually no guests because of Covid and the high commission rates charged by online booking companies. It's a great shame as they are very pleasant hosts and the property has so much potential.

Property was falsely advertised and awful. We walked out and owner refused to give us a refund (actually he went and charged our card after we left). Can't even begin to describe how dirty, derelict, and run-down the place was.

Expedia booked a single night here which the host complained about at length. We felt weird and guilty for showing up. Dirty tea cups in greeting room and lots of stuff in entryway. We were not feeling comfortable and left without staying. Host did not refund us. Feeling ripped off. Look for a different B&B, the photos posted on the site were far superior to the reality we saw inside.☹️

Old school bed and breakfast. We had a very nice two night stay. We had good sized room with a shared bath. It is not fancy, but reasonably priced accommodations in a good area. The breakfast was a full Scottish breakfast with more than enough food. Lots of breakfast options. Rooms are upstairs with no elevator. Good restaurants in the neighborhood and decent access to several bus lines.

A great little B&B. My husband and I stayed here our first two nights in Scotland. The host greeted us with some tea and croissants when we arrived. Our room was clean, a little dated, but spacious. There was a little sink and fridge in the room. The bathroom is shared, but it was always clean. Breakfast was served at 8:30am and there was always a lot of food and many options. It’s a quick 15 minute walk to the Glasgow cathedral, which is also the closest stop to the hop on/hop off bus. We recommend staying here if you get the chance!

Summary: The building is not clearly marked, the food was of extremely poor quality, the hospitality was horrendous and appalling, resulting in my parents and aunts being kicked out due to an alleged “over booking” with Expedia. Read on… After a long overnight trans-Atlantic flight (Sept 1), my two parents in their 80s along with my Aunt checked into the Claremont House after spending nearly 20 minutes in the neighbourhood trying to identify the actual building. The number of the house and the small Claremont House plaque were covered by a tall shrub that made it extremely difficult, even during the day, to find (remember this for later). After previously and clearly explaining their travel arrangements over the phone with a Tom (the host, who was friendly at the time) and early arrival time before finally booking at Claremont House, my parents and Aunt knocked on the locked door on their arrival day only to be welcomed by one of the B&B hosts/operators, Christine, as “you’re too early” and the rooms were not ready. After dismissively and abruptly suggesting to “walk down to a coffee shop along Alexander Parade” until the rooms were ready, my parents and aunt, with clearly two weeks’ worth of luggage at their feet, politely had to ask if they could at least leave the bags there. After simply pointing to a spot in the front hallway for the bags to be left (no special corner, no special storage room), she subsequently suggested to wait on the sofa in the next room, only to find when opening the door to the modest sized breakfast room, there were six people already sitting at the table midway through their morning breakfast! The front entrance was cluttered with old rolls of carpet, sheets on the floor, vacuums in the corner and other strange items of “art” resulting in a shocking first impression. One of the rooms had an ensuite on the lower floor while the upstairs room was a shared bathroom among the other guests. My aunt who lived in Glasgow, had graciously picked us up at the airport early in the morning, offered to bring us all back to her house and wait there after being similarly shocked at the appearance of the front entrance and Christine’s actions. Late morning, towards noon, we returned and my parents and aunt checked in to get caught on some sleep in curing their jet lag. A second aunt was flying in much later that night, and our group was again concerned about finding the location, particularly in the dark and arriving by taxi. After being assured the front door would be left open and the lights left on, neither was done. My aunt waited up, by the door and had to use the phone flashlight to grab the taxi driver’s attention, otherwise it would never have been found, and my arriving aunt and taxi driver would have been repeatedy driving around the neighbourhood. The following morning, the food for breakfast was of poor quality with sausages, bacon and tomatoes being served from the same pyrex dishes, lacking a cover and clearly microwaved (versus grilled/cooked). The service was absolutely rude in the manner the dishes were abruptly left on the table for my parents and the other guests to eat. After breakfast, Tom explained there was a “problem” and that the rooms had been double booked with Expedia but not to worry because Tom and Christine had offered “their place” not far, with two bedrooms, large television, etc. After asking for more details, Tom had repeatedly diverted with reasons of their place still had to be cleaned and my parents and two aunts would not be charged for the two nights (of four nights) at the Claremont House B&B. After sharing her similar reactions to my parents, my aunt, just arrived, was quick to catch on to the general lack of politeness of these B&B operators. On the second morning, as if the situation was not bad enough, Tom and Christine later divulged that there was no other place to stay and that due to an overbooking error with Expedia, my parents had to leave! No concern for where they had to go, no assistance on another booking, no help whatsoever in replacing any accommodation needs. With more than a shocked rebuttal by my parents and aunts, Tom and Christine clearly moved into defensive mode citing stress and mental health issues and “this situation” was not good for them. Whatever the truthful reasoning or the reality of the back story was, subsequent to a dramatic episode by Tom and Christine, my parents and aunts were left without accommodation, in day two of their vacation! Tom had miserably offered to pay for the cab while Christine did not even have the decency to hand the cash to my father, but instigatingly chucked the cash on a nearby chair. Good riddance! (The Premier Inn at George Square luckily had two of the last rooms left and they managed to stay there for two much better nights) DO NOT STAY HERE. There are many more accommodation options in Glasgow. Neither of the two, Tom and Christine, belong in this type of business, even if they had the nicest B&B building in the best neighbourhood to run. I would rate is as zero, but I at least have to give a one rating in order to complete this review.

On arrival we were greeted by Tom he was very polite very welcoming on entering the property we were taking into a lovely lounge which had lovely periodic deco with a modern twist we were offered tea or coffee. He was so welcoming and very knowledgeable he showed us the best places to go and to eat and drink which was very helpful the room was perfectly cleaned to a very high standard bed was so comfortable and the room was so cozy. I'd definitely book to stay again but I'd book direct on the website next time though as hotels.com take a high percentage off the premises . Tom is an amazing host. Very friendly, helpful and flexible. The breakfast was very large and filled me for half of the day. Parking is available on the street and it is free. The room was warm, clean, had a small fridge with milk, orange juice, water and yoghurt. Amazing large lounge with DVD and books. Will be definitely coming back!
