Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked onto a 5 day winter skills course here and it was absolutely excellent. Our guide for the course was Sam Leary, and her enthusiasm for the outdoors was great. There was the perfect balance between learning and safety as well as adventuring where possible. We learnt and incredible amount and it did a great job of making you aware of the risks of going out in the wilderness in the winter, but I’m a way that allows you to manage them that allows you to get out and enjoy it as much as you can. The lodge itself was great. I shared a room with a friend and the room was massive. Had minor issues with WiFi and water temperature for the first night, but all was fine after that. If you’re booked on to a course, the gear you can borrow is absolutely top quality, and they were more than happy to help you find the right sizes and make any changes if you weren’t completely happy after trying it out. The food was incredible. There was just a constant supply of cake which kept you fuelled throughout the day. Breakfast was buffet style and consisted of cooked items as well as porridge, toast and cold cereals. The dinners were the highlight and we had a good mixture of options with absolutely huge portions, you won’t need to worry about going hungry if you’re booked on to one of the courses. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get out safely and make the most of the winter conditions.

My partner and I are just back from the Discover Sea Kayaking course at Glenmore Lodge. From the moment we booked, the service was superb. We were originally scheduled to do this course last year but it was delayed due to COVID. It was with some trepidation that we arrived on Friday, not knowing how the pandemic would affect everything. Staff were lovely and very helpful from the moment we checked in to the moment we left. The food was amazing - I might have to return just for the cakes and tray bakes! Accommodation was comfortable and it was lovely and quiet. The COVID precautions were as unobtrusive as possible while still putting us at ease. I work in healthcare and I'm very aware of the risks of transmission and Glenmore Lodge are certainly doing an excellent job of keeping everyone safe while still allowing us to have fun. Our instructor, George Fell, was amazing. I loved this experience and I'm currently choosing the next adventure at Glenmore Lodge. Well done to all the staff!

Glenmore Lodge is the home of the Scottish National Outdoor Training Centre, nicely tucked away unobtrusively up a side road from the Glenmore Forest Park. It's the ideal location for outdoor pursuits in the Cairngorm Range, particularly hillwalking, snow sports, and climbing, and runs a wide range of outdoor courses, such as Winter Skills for hillwalkers. The accommodation is relatively no-frills, although the rooms are en-suite with comfy beds. There is a bar, with local cask ales, and a café which does simple and calorific meals for those burning energy on the the hills. I stayed by myself in the autumn, and loved the quiet location and above all being away from busy, touristy, tacky Aviemore. The Cairngorm Range car park, which at over 600m is a fine starting point for walking, is just 10 minutes away by car. It gets very busy during the winter with all the snow sports enthusiasts. When I stayed you had to ring or email to enquire about rooms - there isn't an online booking system for accommodation, which is no bad thing, but there is online booking for courses. Note that the Cairngorm Funicular has been out of action for over 2 years, and there's no realistic prospect of it coming back into service in the near future due to technical and financial problems. Also, the lifts for skiers are of the 'poma' type, where you're towed up to the pistes with your skis on the ground, and thus are of no use to walkers.

the staff are in general appaling, they wont email you back, or they will ask you to call back after lunch, even if you are on a mountain first aid course with only 30 minutes of lunch yourself, you will be trulley made to feel a second class citizen, to left hand does not even know who the right hand is, never mind what they are doing. Breakfast was brill the check in procedure was terrible, the phone answer message taking, patenice and customer care of anyone on the phone or ar reception is pretty terrible, all the staff are so terribly important and how dare you ask them questions. dont even suggest that you join the beautiful people doing there courses for dinner, you must dine in the bar like the second class citizen you are. the reception told me i was sharing a room when i booked a single they tried to charge me £90 a night after agreeing a rate of £65 do, do, do not stay here unless you are on one of their courses.

Attended Glenmore Lodge for a Crevasse Rescue Course, there was a mix up with my arrival and I missed my stay at the lodge pre course. (Included in the price). The staff where unbelievably helpful and arranged a stay for the next night free of charge. Rooms where clean, well furnished and had a nice vibe. Facilities where great! The course was amazing, didn’t feel like a client. It felt as if the staff where genuinely interested in our plans for the weekend/ after the course. Would highly recommend.

I wanted a basic introduction into navigation to support me in the hills. Having recently retired, I will be in Scotland 6 – 8 times a year. Glenmore Lodge, on paper ticked all of the boxes. From the moment I drove in, I knew this place was going to be ideal. The location is stunning and the fairly new buildings and grounds were clean and well maintained. The room I was given was spacious with a conscious nod to recycling and being environmentally aware. The breakfast was buffet style and plentiful, with a focus on healthy eating with some ‘good stuff’ available too! The Navigation course was split into 3 groups of 6. It is a relaxed atmosphere and our instructor spent as much time as needed before moving onto the next section. The outdoor exercises were very useful and gave us a flavour of what we’d expect in the hills. I arrived the day before and was staying over. A kind lecturer gave me a lift into Aviemore so I could get some food. This gesture was one of many warm memories I will take from my short but educational stay in Glenmore Lodge. Thanks folks.

Wonderful instructors who live the life most of us dream about when stuck in the office. This place is great and hopefully you’ll also get the connection when you go through the doors. I’ll be coming back here for years, just hoping theres enough the courses available...;-)
