Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Same issues as other reviewers. Keys in envelope on table at door, no one around, “buffet” breakfast very poor, cheap “craissants” and pain au chocolat in plastic wrappers. COVID restrictions as an excuse for this breakfast was completely false; by this time there were very few restrictions anywhere. The room was clean and had everything we needed, but looked very tired; towel rail kept falling off, sink didn’t drain properly, etc. We did meet a member of staff briefly, but only because our payment hadn’t gone through properly. We would NOT stay here again!

Greeted by an envelope in the doorway. Fair room that was clean and tidy. Room was small and bed very uncomfortable. Basic self service breakfast but still an absence of any staff. Needed to pay cash only even though booked with a card via Booking.com Just no care and attention given.

Room Tip: Pre-book evening meal. We trailed round 4 places and still had an hour wait.

We arrived to an envelope waiting at the entrance. No host their to great us which would have been nice. Room and surrounding areas were lovely and clean looking. Our room was small but clean. We couldn't close the window which lead to a noisy nights sleep. The quilt was so heavy it was difficult to sleep with on but so cold without it. I also tried to sleep on the floor as the bed wasn't comfy for 2 people. The bathroom was small and the shower wasn't big enough to have space to wash my hair. After having a quick nose in the breakfast room we decided against having breakfast wasn't really what we wanted. Which is a shame as it would have been nice to have a decent breakfast. Don't use covid as an excuse as we have stayed in other places where breakfast wasn't an issue. We did like the recommendations for dinner the night before. The red pepper was delicious. Don't think we would sleep in this room again. Did notice the for sale sign. Wish the owners the best of luck on their next venture but please don't be absent hosts it's nice to chat to you about what's around the area.

The hardest beds I have ever tried to sleep on. All but one of the windows had blackout curtains, sadly the one overlooking our ( rock hard) bed did not and so a beam of light shone through to wake us up at dawn. The WiFi didn't reach our room. When we arrived, there was a leaflet saying no cooked breakfast. There was no marmalade available. There were some manhandled croissants ,empty jam bottles , battered rolls available.

We stayed for one night, in order to catch a ferry. The owner was absent (in Spain?). Apparently, the manager had walked out the day previously, leaving a member of staff to step up. The fire alarm went off (always the toast!), with nobody to switch off/reset etc. One group had to clear a previous breakfast-sitting’s table before they could use it. And one of the party was on crutches! The ‘buffet’ breakfast was awful - Covid being the excuse. We stayed in other places on this holiday, with lovely (including cooked) breakfasts. The staff didn’t appear until after breakfast, and agreed that our request for some water to put in the kettle to make our own drinks was a good idea! The staff did do their best, but seemed to have been left unawares. The WiFi password didn’t work. Yes, there’s a for-sale sign in the window, and it felt like the owner had jumped ship, and was just taking the money that came his way until the sale went through.

There was a "For Sale" sign in the breakfast room window and I suspect that owners have given up in the hope that they find a buyer before long. I can confirm that all the comments left by others are factual. The room was small but clean however the traffic noise until late in the evening was horrendous. I had to contact the mobile number given to ask how to heat the room and gain access to the WiFi, the details given on the "script" did'nt work however my concerns were addressed relatively quickly when the handyman came - he was very apologetic, courteous and helpful, maybe he should consider buying the place before it's reviews close it down ? Breakfast was very poor, probably the worst I have ever experienced - a real "do it yourself" exercise. The toaster set off the fire alarm, not for the first time apparently so everyone was out on the street until the handyman sorted it. I too had concerns in regards to the check-in procedure, two of the room keys lay inside the porch area for hours after we checked in. Sorry, if this is the best you can offer then it is time to get out the the hospitality business.

Coco pops or rice crispies and a banana is not what I expected oh and a choco pain for breakfast. No toast or porridge or muesli and no hot drinks apart from instant coffe or tea in the room which was clean and comfortable. Could be so much better. Private parking for 3 cars.

Gave them the benefit of the doubt due to needing a last minute booking for a 1 night stay. Was told after a discussion over the parkings entrance that car would be fine getting in and out (we were doing the NC500 route) - this was NOT the case as we almost took the bottom of it out trying to enter and leave - however after a walk around Thurso we were not prepared to leave it on the road side!!!! No sign of hosts and keys left out in the porch for anyone to pick up!! No toiletries, cold atmosphere mainly due to the lack of greeting (pretty sure its against the law for the hosts not to be there) !!! Continental breakfast only available - a few pan au chocolat in plastic packaging and a banana in a fruit bowl left downstairs summed it up. I think the banana had more character than the place itself. “Iffy” smelling milk left in fridge for us to use in tea. Topped off by an abrupt email for payment when cash was agreed when no one was there to take it. Do not part with you money - a definate no no to NC500 or a romantic getaway!

Very disappointed with this review, You were pre-informed of continental breakfast, due to COVID risk assessment results You were pre-informed of self-check in due to COVID risk assessment results You were provided off-street secure parking, your car was not damaged, shall I get a JCB and dig up the road on the off chance your car 'nearly' gets damaged again. This was all agreed by email, and by this, you entered a contract. As you fled without paying for the agreed service this is a breach of contract. By doing this we can no longer trust our future clients and have changed our payment policy as you were the first guests ever to do a runner. You seem more interested in travelling around Scotland telling people how much your car has cost, this car was not damaged. Please avoid these guests at all costs as they are clearly fraudsters.

Arrived at the place to find an enverlope in entrace with our name on and keys to get in front Door and our room. So anyone can wonder up and let themselfs in, nobody around to greet you. When we returned to our room found it cold, so since nobody around we call the contact number several times and no answer. So had to suffer cold nights sleep. Next morning w ewent down for our full breakfast where we was greeted with a room where tables that we did not know who had sat at so not sure if cleaned between guess using. Open small fridge to find bag with our room number on it, this contained our so called Full breakfast. It looked like someone had thrown the stuff in there or another guest had been swapping things out. Not sure but all there was a small box of ceral (no choose) a juice and some pastry. The milk for the ceral was in a jug but the milk had gone sour. When contacted the person said I am not there I am on a training course what can I do. Did not feel safe in terms of Covid. We could see that one rooms keys were left by the door all night so anyone could have gained acess to the place. When asked for refund via our booking agnet was refused without any explaination. I cant understand the other reviews based on our experiance. Other guest who stayed also had same issues. We left comments in the vistiors book but nothing back from the owner that's how much value the custom.

It was a ghost of a B&B we did not see owners at all, had to scramble on the floor for my envelope with the key to get in, then a letter saying they could no longer do a cooked breakfast (maybe a phone call would have been better) poor choice for breakfast cereal, yogurt, banana and pain au chocolate No coffee toast or even a microwave to warm the pastry could have used more imagination cheese ham rolls pastries etc why I don't know because we all touched the fridge and had to share the milk jug so it could not have been for covid reasons and sharing things, tables were not cleared by 10am when we left, room needed the paint touch up, poor TV analogue run by an old sky box that kept crashing and asking for the sky card, bed wobbled, bathroom smelled damp Bath was coated in a film of something when I climbed in didn't know if some one else's grime or cleaning fluid, yuk!! only toiletries were liquid soap that was about to run out, and I payed £110 no mention of refund for poor breakfast we paid extra for the better room which was next to the laundry so had to listen to the sweet sound of spinning washing machine
