There are no luxury hotels in the north of Scotland. We stayed here for 2 nights on a Globus tour and were well-satisfied with this location. Our room was small but comfortable and the food was good. Because there are few places where a bus-group can eat in Thurso, we ate both breakfast and dinner here and they were actually... More

The common areas of this hotel have been worked on and are quite nice. Given the more remote nature of the location a bit of rustic-ness could be forgiven, however the room I was in was so small as to be not functionable. Single bed dominated the room with no real space for luggage and could sit on bed to... More

Public areas are very clean and well maintained, obviously updated on a regular basis. Rooms are a bit more dated, however spotlessly clean and although bathrooms are very basic they are clean and do the job. Shower had great water pressure (something that was a hit and miss affair in other hotels). As a family run hotel your not getting... More

We stayed here as a base for our ferry trip to Orkney and were disappointed by the smallness of the room, lack of space for cases etc, having to lug these upstairs, and then to be told that there were no baths only showers, was not a good first impression. however the location and the breakfast and staff proved to... Good location, good room, good service, good food, can't really fault it. Best cottage pie I have ever tasted, superb fluffy potatoes. Very helpful staff, no hesitation in staying again, but unfortunately there is not much to do in the town itself. Good base for visiting John O' Groats.

booked this hotel through Booking.com and made simple mistake of choosing the wrong date. Emailed twice with no response and then had to phone the hotel to be basically told tough your mistake not my problem. Poor customer service, as regular hotel user I for one will never use this hotel again.

This hotel is well organised with cosy bedrooms, excellent ensuite facilities and a fine bar and restaurant on site. The restaurant has meals in the restaurant or bar, and the sitting areas adjacent to the bar are as comfortable and friendly as any you'd hope to visit. Breakfast is included and is both efficiently served and designed to set you... More

The hotel has a very comfortable feeling, anchored by the personal management of the family that owns the property. The location provides a wonderful base for visiting various sites throughout the area. The hotel offers its guest well-prepared breakfast and evening meals and provides a quiet room each night to prepare for the next day. Not a modern hotel, but... More

Stayed at the St Clair hotel for 2 nights ( 17/18 June) and loved it. Upon entering the hotel it was easy to see how much care was taken to make our stay enjoyable. At reception I was met by both the owners, Beverley and Jamie if I remember correctly. They were very chatty and made us feel relaxed. Our... More

I stay in luxury hotels and everything in between down to bivouacs. I have read the previous reviews and would like to bring a balanced perspective to this hotel. I agree that for those who are perhaps less fit or elderly the stairs and doorways might be an issue but it is entirely possible to request a ground floor room.... More
