Detailed Reviews
A very warm welcome received on arrival with all information provided for our stay. The guest house was very clean and tidy and our room had all the amenities required. The bed was very comfortable and room was a good size. The en-suite shower room was very clean and the shower was lovely and hot. There was plenty of breakfast selections and cooked breakfast was fantastic and you have a fantastic view from the breakfast room over the town and views of the castle. The guest house is also very well located for a short walk into town or down the river to the city gardens. Overall a lovely guest house and we very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend this guest house and stay here again.

When we booked this as part of the NC500 tour we wasn't sure what to expect, as with any booking really.
But upon arrival we were treated by the owners who were very friendly and there dog too.
Walking into the building was just wow. Something really special about it. The whole place was special and felt like a film set.
Our room was big, the bed fantastic and we enjoyed a cuppa next to the log fire downstairs. We nearly nodded off it was so nice.
We were advised of a taxi company to use who keeps costs down and they were great. And we headed into Wick which isn't far. If you want to eat at the nearby put the smiddy, book in advance. We couldn't get in but it was the same day.
We would go here again, the breakfast setting was like nothing I've seen before.

We booked Thrumster house earlier this year and it is a great location just outside of Wick. It's literally three miles so really handy. We stayed in the Keepers Cottage which was spacious, stocked with equipment and had a huge TV that are children enjoyed in the evening. It had two rooms and a bathroom upstairs too. We were self catering and there was plenty of wood and fuel too.
Catherine the host was very helpful, gave us recommendations for eating. We had lunch at Puldugon nearby. They had a great shop and we even got to see baby lambs.
The cottage has charm, is quaint and very much a handy stop on the NC500 route.

Organising our NC500 adventure this year was a challenge, but my wife did an excellent job with organising the accommodation ! Thrumster House was the one that stood out the most, it was a fantastic stay with the family. As soon as you walk into the house, you can feel the history hit you head on. It’s is a wonderful place to stay, the welcome we received was amazing. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. In the evening, after we returned from dinner, we sat around the fire with the family and had a few drinks whilst we talked about the history of the house and estate. Then to top off an great stay, the breakfast on the morning we left was excellent.
I cannot recommend Thrumster House enough, hence the 5 Star Rating.
Do not miss out.......

We stayed the first few days in Angie's Cottage, which has just been renovated to a very high standard. Set in the woods, it has beautiful walks right from the door, including a short walk to the nearest pub (The Old Smiddy Inn in Thruster - also highly recommended for its wonderful warm Scottish welcome). We then spent a week in Yarrow's Cottage, which is further off the beaten track. It sits on the shore of Yarrow's Loch and has a rowing boat, which we took out on the loch a couple of times. It was great fun and a very healthy pursuit, with no neighbours and no audience to laugh at you, if you went round in circles! Yarrow's Archaeological Trail starts just a short walk from the door. Both cottages are in a Dark Skies area, giving full view of the stars. When did you last, if ever, holiday somewhere where you didn't need to leave your base, in order to take full advantage of a simply stunning area? Completely tranquil and simply magic, t is more than worth taking a long journey to get there. If you are looking for peace and quiet there is nowhere better. Catherine, your host, could not be more friendly and accommodating. This is a holiday you will never forget.

Wonderful welcome from Catherine (and her dogs). Thrumster House has so much character and is very comfortable, a great place to stay as part of a NC500 tour especially if you are travelling with a four legged friend (Brian enjoyed his stay!). Lovely breakfast set us on our way, highly recommend.

Stayed one night at this unique feature full historic home which offered stunning grounds with a view of the pond and summerhouse, Breakfast was delicious and Our host Catherine was both attentive and charismatic. I couldn’t of wished for anything more and when departing it felt like I was leaving as a family friend. I would most definitely recommend to friends and family and not hesitate to book here again.

We really loved staying here in Islay and Catherine’s family house, complete with Bertie the dog. It’s not a hotel but a well loved and lived in home and quite unique. Wellies in the hall and Bertie to greet you. Islay and Catherine were really hospitable and great sources of information. We felt very welcome and, for us, we found a lot of resonance with some of the books, pictures, furnishings etc. . We were fortunate that they were hosting an archeological dig, excavating an Iron Age house, in the grounds whilst we were there and we learned so much about the history, ancient and more modern, of the house and it’s surrounding area.
Our bed was super comfy, the towels super soft and antique shop atmosphere of our bedroom was just lovely. We slept soundly.
Breakfast was excellent and of really high quality.
We can’t wait to return

The house is an old Lairds House and is now run by the family. A wonderful experience, Catherine is a great host, and makes you feel very welcome, offering drinks by the fireside. A lovely ample breakfast. A unique experience not to be missed.

Catherine, her mom and the dogs Bertie and Dew gave us the most warm welcome. Everyone is completely relaxt (except for Dew who’s energy is catching) which makes you as their guest very comfortable. The House is authentic and the breakfast is amazing. We spent two nights here. Really want to come back one day.
