The Corriegarth is a great bar restaurant with rooms that have been refurbished in March 2017. Situated only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Inverness and 10 minutes from the railway station it is close enough to enjoy the city yet in a quieter location to be able to relax. Our bar is very popular, showing sports and serving a wide range of beers, whisky, gin and wines. Freshly prepared meals are available all day between 8am and 10pm We look forward to welcoming you to Inverness.

Until 9am the on the morning after our stay we had nothing but praise for the Corriegarth and it’s staff. We were a family group celebrating a big birthday, Inverness was a mid point for us to get together we got a decent deal (I thought), our rooms were fresh and decorated ok, not top quality but clean and look good. Some rooms bigger than others which wasn’t a problem, the hospitality tray was good brands and well stocked, in my opinion giving the brands on that tray and the quality bottled water in the room I found it strange they use what I can only describe as sand paper roll for toilet paper? We ordered our meal nothing was to much bother John was attentive and looked after us very well that evening we ate and drank a good amount. We went to bed and in the morning this is where our review goes sour!! There was 11 in our group and we decide to have breakfast at 10am as we had plans and bookings later that day from lunch time onwards, one by one each room made contact with me to say no hot water? One of us went to ask what was happening? No answer was given as to why, other than they will boost the water? They have a hotel full why wouldn’t it be boosted anyway? Everyone attended for breakfast - a great breakfast, well apart from one rude member of staff, but that wasn’t the big problem that day. An hour later still no hot water, because John had been so good the night before I approached him about the water situation no answers were given and he did say he would call someone out!! Ok but that doesn’t help us now he said hang about and wait to water heats? Well it was already 11:30 and our plans were getting closer, so as a result it turned out no plumber called as the cost was to much money. more time passed before we learnt that and it turns out one of the 11 got a hot shower at 8:30am and that was it, some of our group left as the place we were attending was up market for afternoon tea so we lost money for that. Looking back we were asked to pay rooms as we arrived and our meal bill settled that night! Was this so we couldn’t haggle in the morning? Was it because they knew there would be no hot water, one member of staff said this is a common occurrence!! It’s a shame as we would probably have used the place again but I wouldn’t now. I made contact after and I felt it was shrugged off as a minor problem!! Disappointed

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in May 2022, the bar and restaurant areas are fine, decent selection of real ales, very welcoming staff. The room was smaller than we would have liked, it was however clean and a light bulb problem in the ensuite was rectified immediately, the ensuite itself was a little small but again it was clean.
We ate here twice in the evening and the food was a very good standard, served with a smile. Overall the biggest plus point that we found was the staff, all of whom were excellent.
If we find ourselves back in the area we would stay here again.

We booked into the Corriegarth for 2 nights as a base while visiting friends.

The bedroom was small but the bathroom was lovely, the overall standard of cleanliness was very high. The car park was small but adequate - we could see the car from the bedroom window.

The location is excellent, only a 10 minute walk into town!

We didn't have breakfast but booked dinner in the restaurant with friends - the food was lovely! Unfortunately, despite having made a booking in the restaurant, it was closed on Saturday night so we were initially given a table in the back bar. We did have to ask to be moved because the noise levels were so high that it was impossible to have a conversation. However, the staff were very understanding and helpful and moved us immediately to a 'booth' type table in the front bar.

Overall, an enjoyable and pleasant stay at the Corriegarth!

There were some positives - USB charging ports and good hairdryer. Unfortunately that is where it ends.

This was probably one of the worst hotels I have stayed at. The room was tiny and cramped, with sparse decorations and barely any room to manoeuvre round the double bed. The rubbish in the bin from the previous guests was left, which was worrying during the pandemic. Toilet paper was cheap and rough, and the shower was slightly mouldy.

Despite wifi being advertised, we were warned that apparently since “the walls were thick” there may be difficult connection. There was no wifi at all in the room, which is unacceptable, particularly with the excuse of the walls being too thick which is strange.

The shower was lukewarm at best, and we had no hot water at all following the morning of our stay, which was ridiculous.

Perhaps worse of all, the fire alarm went off at 7:30 AM, and we evacuated to the fire meeting point. Zero members of staff came to that point or spoke to any of the guests, and the one staff member that came out of the hotel seemed more interested in his cigarette than checking if all guests had evacuated and were okay. Two fire engines came, and we had to speak to the firemen themselves to find out if it was safe to go back. I find this appalling that no staff seemed to care about the safety and well-being of their guests, considering the attendance of the fire service.

All in all, I would not recommend this hotel, and you would be better off staying elsewhere.

Response from John Mackay, General Manager at Corriegarth Hotel
Responded 30 Jul 2021
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I'm sorry your stay at The Corriegarth was a disappointing one. I'd like to just clear up a few points. When booking a room with us, you have 3 options. Deluxe Double, Standard Double and Small Double with shower. Room 3 is one of our smallest rooms and more suited to short stays. I'm sorry we couldn't upgrade you as the hotel was fully booked. I apologise on behalf of my Housekeeping team who clearly didn't pay attention to detail. The Wi-Fi at the hotel has recently been very intermittent, depending on where you try to connect and despite extenders in place. We are very aware of the problem and plan to change our set up. Unfortunately, at peak times when the hotel is full and the kitchen is busy, the hot water supply will be in shortage. I find this to be the case in some other small hotels. Again, sorry for this inconvenience. Most importantly, Fire Safety. We do not have a Night Porter on site or any staff with live in accommodation. However, we do have a Fire Evacuation Plan on display in every room to instruct guests on how to act in the case of an alarm. The Fire Alarm did indeed sound at 0720 on the morning of 29th and I received a call to respond. I was on site shortly after by which time fire officers had sent all guests back in. I spoke to a few guests at breakfast who were all very understanding. I think you might have mistaken a hotel guest as a member of staff smoking. I was the only member of team on site and my priority was finding the cause of alarm and checking all was OK. My team are regularly trained in fire drills and awareness. The safety of our guests is paramount hence the prompt response from fire brigade and a nearby responder shortly thereafter. This would have been better discussed over the phone as opposed to misleading other visitors into thinking they are unsafe at our property. Something which is very untrue. Feel free to call if you still wish to do so. Kind Regards

I was due to stay in a delux room tonight at this property and waited and waited and waited to be seen to. With my luggage in hand I thought it was obvious i was at the bar to check in. On a quiet night a barman decided serving drinks (to locals who were after me in line)was more appropriate. A young staff member eventually came over after a local called for them too. She couldnt find My booking, which I explained had only recently been made. after another long wait. she came back and with the wrong name on her arrivals list, disappeared. So after another long wait I was told there was a problem with a printer? humm. No offer of apology or empathy shown. After waiting for another long period I asked one of the locals who the manager was, it turned out he was behind the bar throughout this period with his back to the customers and focused only on one task, something with a till and seemed completely oblivious customers needed serving. (there was 4 staff members behind the bar) and three customers waiting to be served, myself being one of them. I asked to speak with him
He eventually came over and I explained after waiting so long and with complete disregard as an overnight guest I would be going elsewhere. His response? a simple shrug of shoulders. Needless to say I was fuming and overhearing the locals they were not impressed either.

Being in the industry myself for many years working recently on Skye I was in complete dismay.

Such a shame I experienced people in the customer service and hospitality industry that dont want to SERVE CUSTOMERS HOSPITABLEY!

A disgrace to the industry!

We stayed here on Sat 4th Sept for one night. It wasn't a good start as we couldn't get parked in the car park and all around the hotel was double yellow lines or permit parking. We parked ion double yellow lines and went in and despite it being after 4pm our room wasn't ready but we were informed it would be in 15 mins. We tried to find somewhere to park and after driving around for ages we went to Eastgate Centre and left the car there. We then had to walk back to the hotel. Our room was ready but it was probably just before 5pm at this point. The man we spoke to was quite apologetic and offered to "sort us out with some drinks later". We returned to the hotel later on and had drinks in the bar and we were served by this same man but he quite happily accepted my bank card for payment for 2 rounds.
The room was nice & the bed was comfy. The noisy radiator woke me up at 5am and it continued to make a noise every 5 mins. I did get back to sleep but then housekeeping stood outside our room and spoke very loudly and didn't even apologise when we asked them to be quiet!
A COLD shower in the morning was not a pleasant start to the day.

Breakfast was tasty enough though. Billy served us and was friendly & chatty and asked about our stay and we told him we weren't impressed! He seemed to care and asked me to write down my name & number & list of issues to pass on to the Manager who was coming in st 12pm....I'm still waiting for a call....
Very disappointed with our stay and we felt like we did not get value for what we paid for the room.
We will definitely not be back - there are plenty of other Hotels in Inverness!!

Having booked a table for a meal at 7.45pm and ordered our meal. 35 minutes later told we couldn't have our steak due to the fact that they had run out. Reordered by which time several customers had entered for their meal. Three quarters of a hour had gone by and no food! When we enquired was told that there was only 1 chef on that our food would be 7 minutes in the meen time people who had come in after us were being served we got quite cross to which we were greeted by a local man to shut up! We are tourists bringing in money to a environment that needs every penny. What a impression does that leave on us! In the end we walked out with a comment from a member of staff "Go on then!" After 1 hour and 20 minutes and no food we are getting better service in McDonald's!!!

We stayed here for 3 nights and we were sorry to leave and move on. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The bar area had a locals feel and we were made very welcome by all the staff and Locals alike. John and Amy had the time to talk with us and added to the feeling that we were one of the locals.
The food was excellent. We had three really great breakfasts and would highly recommend the food in the restaurant, I believe the chef is called John too so thank you John.
Parking was never a problem and we were only !0 minutes walk from the centre of town.
We would recommend you stay here and when we go back to Inverness we will staying here. Thank you John, Amy and all your team .

Very poor experience at the Corriegarth Hotel. The heating in the room was not working while it was in the minus temperatures outside, as a result of which I slept very poorly. I woke up the next morning with plans for the day ahead, which unfortunately I had to move around as a result of the chef not turning up for the breakfast service. I waited an hour and a half until 9.30am and still, there were no signs of breakfast, so I left to rearrange my plans. As a result of waiting, I missed my transport and had to spend another £40 on a private hire taxi to take me to Loch Ness. I had to email and call the hotel on 6 occasions in total to get a measly £10 refund. No offer to cover my additional costs, and one member of staff on the phone line was incredibly unprofessional - poor English skills and was heard talking out loud about me to her colleagues. Do not stay here, it's a lovely old coaching inn and the bar manager, I have to give it to him, was incredibly sympathetic to my experience in the morning. But it's just not worth it when you can get better customer service for your money elsewhere. Really ruined my holiday.

Staff were all really friendly and helpful, especially Siobhan. Location quite good but involves a steep bank into the city and this should be known before you book. Breakfast was mixed yoghurt and banana some days available and some days not. Bacon was terrible and coffee/tea often lukewarm. Parking is limited but there was only one day out of 7 when we had a little problem but still managed to park. Rooms were clean but needs a black out blind behind the curtain as the curtains do not cover the whole window and the street lights shine in all night. The mattress in room 1 needs replacing. There are no drawers in the room just an open wardrobe with few hangers. We ate there twice but were not overly impressed with the food. I think if you are there for a couple of nights it would be an OK stay but for a week we probably should have booked a more expensive hotel with better beds and more consistent breakfast. Overall we enjoyed our stay but that was probably largely due to the friendliness of the staff we encountered.

Sorry for late reply, my room had a double. I would think bed types should be on their website.
