I just had one night in Inverness and was catching the train very early the next morning. The Royal Highland Hotel was perfect since it literally connects to the train station! The hotel itself is a little dated and could use a little standard upkeep; however, to be honest, I felt like this added to it's charm. The front desk... More

Stayed on a Sunday Night - Hotel appeared busy, but not 'heaving'. Check-in was easy, but, on each occasion we approached Reception, although 2 members of staff was present, only one appeared to actually be interacting with the guests. Stayed in one of the 'Royal' rooms - very spacious - 2 Queen-sized beds. good amenities i.e. Tea & Coffee facilities,... More

Ash restruant we waited 20 mins in an unbusy foyer to be served cold food (i am diabetic) the staff disapeared. We could not eat most of it apart from being cold was poor quality. The staff could not care one said I didn't cook it another said with a shrug thats your problem. They also overcharged us my wife... More

Thank you for the review and we are extremely surprised on the quality of the response you had narrated as Ash had been running for 14 years now and is known locally not only for its extensive home cooked offerings as well as the great value it gives - but also for the friendliness of its staff. However, we apologise... More

We stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed it. The room we had was big with two comfortable double beds overlooking one of the main streets. Although we thought it might be noisy, it wasn't bad and we had the pleasure of a great view of the Christmas lights We had dinner in the hotel both nights and the... More

Just returned from a weekend at the Royal Highland Hotel, Inverness. Great location if you are travelling by train, and a warm welcome on arrival. Hotel has a beautiful entrance with sweeping staircase. Rooms are a bit dated but spotless and very warm. Breakfast is plentiful and choice is endless. Staff are very friendly and nothing is too much bother.... More

13 of us got great deal for 2 nights B & B, dinner on first night with wine, cocktail and after noon tea. Was such a bargain worried what hotel would be like. Room was nice, if slightly dated, but very clean with all the extras you need. Dinner was very good. Breakfast was a buffet which was okay. Afternoon... More

From the moment we entered the hotel we received a warm welcome from the staff. The room was very spacious & comfortable. Very central location - we travelled by train & the hotel was right next to the station. Our room faced out over the station - but we were never disturbed by noise. Hearty breakfasts on offer. Would recommend... More

We booked via a voucher deal. The hotel is an old railway hotel, with associated grand stairway, and beautiful old style ball room, along with walls with peculiar angles. We travelled by train to Inverness, arrived early and were able to leave our luggage with the hotel until after check in opened at 3. I was concerned that old style... More

Stayed one night in the Royal Highland. Reception good and staff very friendly. Rooms are a bit dated and view from window was rather disgusting. Food in the restaurant was below par but again the staff were excellent. Beds were comfy and the hotel was quiet at night.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Royal Highland Hotel is the oldest hotel in the centre of the Highland capital, Inverness. In 2000, the property was carefully restored, retaining its unique character associated with the bygone age. As soon as you enter the hotel you will appreciate this. In the foyer the grand staircase, the inspiration for the Titanic's staircase, leads to the 84 spacious refurbished bedrooms - all with very high ceilings. The decor is rich with traditional furniture and deep colours. The rooms all have soft furnishings and antique style furniture. The excellent bathrooms are generally medium to large in size. For over 151 years, the hotel has been looking after travellers from all over the world. Perhaps its popularity stems from the fact the hotel is a grand place to stay. Large bedrooms, large lounge areas, quiet meeting rooms, good food, prime location and friendly staff all play their part. All local amenities close to hand, but within a 5 minute drive you are out into the dramatic Highlands. Lochness is only 7 miles from the hotel. ... more   less
