Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here for one night. Or only regret is wishing we had more time to spend in this wonderful place steeped in history and old world charm. Food was excellent in the dinning room. Drinks in the bar area was very relaxing and a great way to spend an evening talking with other guests. Service was above average from a very well informed staff. Love this place!

Culloden House recently hosted us for one of the most important days of our lives, our Wedding! From start to finish the team made our day the most magnificent…they catered for every request, nothing was too much trouble. All our guests were warmly welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed ceremony, a delicious meal, rocking party and delightful buffet. Huge Thank you to all the amazing staff, your service is truly first class.

Most amazing hotel experience ever! The room was spectacular. Staff was friendly and so helpful. Best meal I’ve had in my life! Kyle at the front was the best! I dream of coming back one day! The coos in the back field were a sweet bonus!

Be Aware - American owned catering to American Guests. If that’s what you want it’s OK. Not great - OK. Needs some ‘sensitive’ updating. Food is just OK, Service is friendly. Would not return and not on my recommended list.

What to say about Culloden House. Let's start with the fact that it simply oozes history, and the staff are able to add things you may not have heard or read, but help to make your stay more personal. Our recent visit was not our first time here, and every visit has been pleasurable. The staff is excellent in meeting any need you might have, from which local gin to have with your tonic on up. The surroundings and history speak for themselves. Meals were always excellent.

My wife and I stayed here for four night recently. It is a lovely old mansion (1788) in a nice setting. Our room was very roomy and comfortable with all the modern conveniences. Breakfast was excellent each morning and we ate dinner there on two nights. The food was excellent in both taste and presentation. Hats off to the chef! Truly fine dining. You are expected to dress appropriately for dinner which is actually nice in this day and age. However, what truly sets it apart is all of the excellent staff! From our welcome to all of the staff in the dining room, everyone was friendly and professional!! The only thing to realize is that you are away from downtown. This was not a problem as we easily took short inexpensive cabs back and forth as needed.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at! This elegant Georgian manor house is a historic property, now converted to a lovely boutique hotel. The grounds are magnificent, with lovely front and rear lawns, a walled garden and a few Highland "coos" out back. The staff is fantastic - everyone is friendly and helpful. A special shout out to Kyle, one of the most charming and funny people I have ever met. I wish I could have packed him up and taken him home with me!

I have never been made to feel so unwelcome in a hotel. I was judged for what I was wearing and how I looked. It was not acceptable for dinner. I was told I was not going to be able to eat in the restaurant as they have a dress code and shorts are not alloud it was Humiliating and made me feel like. I was a second class citizen and not worth staying in the hotel. I did not have any trousers with me so it was not a matter of changing I asked, could we have food in the room? And said no, so we ended up having to go out to find. I take away restaurant it was not acceptable. I will not visit the hotel again and I cannot recommend it.

Response from Stephen Davies, General Manager at Culloden House
Responded 14 Nov 2023
Dear Guysimpson, We do apologise that your stay was not to your liking. On discussion with my two duty managers who were on duty that evening they pointed out that our room service menu, lounge menu and full dining menu were available for you to dine from in your suite. We do, like most Country House Hotels, operate a dining dress code which is very relaxed yet does require gentlemen to have a collared shirt and trouser. Information on our dress code is on the online channel that you booked with as well as being in our guest directory and website. Kindest regards, Stephen Davies

As leader of a couples golf trip over the past 7 years, I am always looking for accommodations with a wow factor. Despite the online reviews, this hotel is sadly past its prime . The drive up to the hotel has a beautiful old mansion sitting in the middle of what looks like a abandoned farm. There is not a stitch of groundskeeping in the lawns around this house. This is an abandoned tennis court and a croquet set set in the middle of these expansive grounds. The back of the hotel features nothing . Nowhere to sit , nowhere to enjoy. The staff are very friendly but it seems management has left them there to take care of a degrading hotel. While updates are planned for next year - they have a long way to go Breakfast is slow and so far they can’t figure out how to prepare eggs in omelette style. Any omelette request was denied that they could not make that particular style of eggs. Rooms lack many modern amenities and in fact my Residence Inn room the following night was much nicer. When you charge $450 a night - there are high expectations . This hotel is living off their reviews and would avoid it until the remodel is done and the guest experience is updated. So sorry to write this when staff were so friendly but the truth is Culloden house is overrated .
