The Kingsmills Hotel garners appreciation for its friendly staff and luxurious amenities, including a pool and various dining options, which have left many guests with a positive impression. While the rooms are acknowledged for their spaciousness and cleanliness, some reviewers point out that the decor feels a bit dated and noise can be an issue. Although the service receives high marks for professionalism, instances of disorganization have been flagged.
The value proposition of the hotel is a subject of debate among travelers, with some feeling that it doesn't quite justify the price due to overpriced food and certain expectations not being met. Nonetheless, the hotel's location is a highlight, offering easy access to nearby attractions and events.

The Kingsmills Hotel provides a solid lodging experience for individuals looking for full-service accommodations while spending time in Inverness. My husband and I stayed in one of the "garden" rooms -- a single row of newish units located toward the back of the property and completely separate from the older, more traditional main hotel. Although our room was spacious, and featured a comfortable king-sized bed and plenty of furniture, it was strangely lacking in usable storage space: no drawers or shelves, except for a very small set of drawers buried in the closet. (I really wish hotels would think more about guests and their belongings -- most adults don't want to live out of a suitcase for multiple days or be forced to drape their belongs over every available flat surface in the room). The bathroom was generously sized and the shower was large and easy to access, but only had a single rain-style shower head positioned in the middle of the ceiling. No wand for rinsing parts of your body lower than your shoulders. And, of course, without a shower cap you'd be stuck washing your hair everyday. Fortunately, the front desk was able to locate a shower cap when asked -- they did not automatically provide them in the room. There were multiple restaurants and a spacious bar area in the main building, which was helpful since downtown and/or other restaurants were a bit of a long walk away. The hotel itself is nice, and the staff were courteous if a bit slow on service. All in all, the Kingsmills Hotel offered quality lodging for the price, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to stay there again.

Hello, Thank you for visiting and staying with us all the way from California. We appreciate your positive and constructive feedback about our Garden rooms which are a return guest favourite for accommodation. Much obliged for dining with us and using both the Conservatory and Whiskey Lounge for meals. The walk to town is about 10-15 minutes but we are also happy to organise taxis for those not wishing to walk or enjoy the always pleasant Scottish weather. Kind Regards, Angus Duncan Operations Manager

Nothing else comes close to hospitality in Inverness than the Kingsmills hotel! The staff are so friendly and welcoming it is like they are part of your family. The rooms are always spotless and comfortable you don’t want to get out the beds they are so comfortable. The food is not too much and not enough, and it’s all local produce they use.

Our group of 20 arrived at this hotel and were welcomed very warmly. That service and attention to detail continued throughout the 2 nights we stayed here - in fact, of all the hotels we stayed in on our 3 week tour, this one had the most attentive staff, with great attention to detail shown. We had 2 dinners here - one a group dinner that was included in our tour, and one that wasn't. The food was excellent on both occasions. Drinks were prepared to our requirements, and were priced similarly to other places we stayed.
The room I was allocated was a modern garden room (numbers in the 900s), and my room was an accessible one. It had a huge bathroom with a walk-in shower and no tub (yay!!!). The room itself was really big and it had a decent desk and chair suitable for working, and a table at the entrance for keys etc. and a small wardrobe. It was fully air conditioned with controls that worked. The floors in the garden rooms were wood, which must be easier to keep clean than carpets.
The only downside would be the weather - when we were there the weather was perfect, but as these garden rooms are outside and down a long path (no steps), I certainly wouldn't like to be getting to and from them in inclement weather. Also, the long path has a downward slope to the rooms, so if you have a reasonable amount of luggage consider asking them to send someone with a luggage cart to collect your luggage on leaving as there's a small incline up to the doors to the hotel.

I stayed in a garden room and it was lovely - modern and well appointed. It stays very warm, I almost didn't need the heating, and even turned the A/C on briefly. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. Note that you need to walk outside to access the main building, where the restaurant is.
The breakfast was ok. The continental breakfast included both cold and hot items. The granola was nice. Half of the fruit was canned. The bread was all packaged, sliced bread. I also tried a made to order item one day - the scrambled eggs and salmon - which was nice and a generous portion, but not mixed together - rather a pile of scrambled eggs next to a pile of smoked salmon.
The spa was a bit of a joke. The leisure center was in one building, which had a pool, a steam room and a sauna. These were a bit dated, but ok. Note that you need to take a towel from your room, or you need to pay a small amount to use a towel from the leisure center (I think it was around £1.50). They really should tell you this when you check in, or have a sign in the room.
Then if you want to get a treatment, it's in a different building across the parking lot. When you check in at the front desk of this building, they have you sit at a table to wait for your massage therapist to indicate they're ready for you. I got the aromatherapy massage, which was relaxing, but didn't involve any type of pressure - the therapist told me that massage always is soft - this was not made clear in the services list nor when I called to make an appointment (as their website wasn't working when I tried to book online). The whole experience wasn't exactly the relaxing spa hotel experience I had been hoping for.
I had dinner in the restaurant and it was delicious. Some of the staff were lovely and very helpful, while others seemed like they wanted to be done with you as quickly as possible.

Hello, Thank you for staying with us and are pleased you enjoyed your Kings Club modern room. Apologies you had mixed reviews regarding breakfast, please note we do use fresh bread from a local bakery and most of the fruit is freshly cut. Our leisure club is indeed separate from our Spa facilities which are in the Kings and Spa building, apologies you were not informed about our towel policy upon check-in as this is always our intention. Although your aromatherapy message was relaxing apologies about any misunderstanding regarding whether this was a soft or a pressure treatment in advance as appears you would have enjoyed a mix of both. Our lovely and helpful staff are our number one asset so am a bit disappointed a couple of team let us down at your delicious meal. Kind Regards, Angus Duncan Operations Manager

We stayed for 2 nights in the Luxury King Room (406). Our room had an adjoining door to the next room which was made of very thin material. There was a toddler in the next room which meant that for both mornings we were woken up by either a crying toddler or loud videos playing from the said room around 5am and 6am. The rooms around us also had small children which made the hallway noisy. I am surprised that we (a couple) were placed in between all the families with small children and toddlers especially since the hotel is big.
The room itself is beautifully decorated and recently refurbished. The amenities were okay and for a luxury room there were no slippers and bathrobes but of course this was not a big deal.
The hotel itself is at an amazing location if you have a car to drive around as it’s close to all attractions. If not, you would have to walk to the city centre (about 30 mins walk) or get a taxi.
The pool was a nice bonus but the changing rooms were very poorly maintained and floor was dirty and wet + muddy. There was no life guard on duty when we went (Sunday afternoon) - the pool was shallow for adults but might be something to note for children.
Breakfast was very poor for a 4 star hotel. We only added on our breakfast on the day of check out and found out that the chef for the morning just returned from his day off and personally I think it was reflected on the state of the food. Hot dishes were either overcooked or poorly made such as the mushrooms, scrambled eggs, and sausages. We paid £35 for two people and it was definitely not worth it.
The staffs were great and friendly. Check in was easy and quick even during peak hours. House keeping was also excellent by Oksana. The lounge might benefit from an expansion since it’s heavily used and always busy even in February. Parking is relatively easy but still busy which might be problematic in the warmer months as there will be more people.
Overall, as a couple, the stay was average for us due to the reasons above which hopefully can be noted of.

We stayed at the Kingsmills at the end of our NC500 trip. It was supposed to be our “treat stay” at the end of an otherwise fantastic trip.
Unfortunately, we found the stay rather lacking, especially considering the price we paid.
We arrived at 3.20 which we understand is early compared to the check in time of 4pm. Even though they knew we were there, our room wasn’t ready till gone 4.15. The reception staff made little attempt to welcome us or keep us updated on progress.
The room was a “basic” room and is showing signs of age. Other guests were in “luxury” rooms and we feel that they have neglected the “basic” rooms in order to make people spend more money to get fancier rooms (with bathrobes, mini bars etc) - the “basic” rooms don’t even have soap or supplies you can use for the bath as they’re all “locked” in the shower/by the sink. And the pumps on them don’t work!
To make things worse, our room had a major damp problem that got worse during our stay. The smell was awful. As we were only staying 2 nights, we tried to give it time to pass but as I say it got worse. As we were three people staying, with a dog, and the hotel was very full, we didn’t feel that there would be another room available so we didn’t complain until we left (we probably should have done to be honest as the room smelled awful).
We ate at the conservatory restaurant on our first night. We found the menu very limited - especially the starters. It is a fixed price menu for starters and mains so you feel you have to have a starter but then the bill has them separately which was frustrating. There are also lots of menu items that have supplementary costs (half the mains for example). For our mains, one of our meals arrived uncooked so we had to send it back. The other two meals (the “smoked pork loin”) was actually gammon. Both meals came with a number of items that aren’t on the menu - including main ingredients like the vegetables. This would make it very hard for anyone with allergies or even food preferences. We said at the time that it was the “worst meal of our trip” and I still stand by that.
The staff were friendly but not well trained, especially for an expensive hotel. Yes, don’t serve wine in a hot glass but don’t serve it soaking wet having run it under the tap. If you have to show a new member of staff how to open a wine bottle, tell the guest to sit down and bring the wine bottle over. For the cost of the hotel, these are the basic things you’d expect.
The breakfasts were okay but only because they were included in our rate.
Overall, very disappointing and we would not recommend.

Beautiful room. Comfortable Sealy bed with plush feather n down pillows and an amazingly snuggly goose feather n down duvet. All spotlessly clean! Shower room very stylish with Arran toiletries. Additional door sections off bedroom from dressing area / shower, also cuts corridor noise. Two comfy chairs and table. Requested jug of water and some milk which was delivered immediately. Breakfast choice and quality was excellent. Staff well presented and organised. Exceeded expectations! We will return!

We did enjoy the stay and the room was fine and breakfast was excellent. However this is why it lost marks:
We arrived to the manager giving the receptionist a public telling off. Which was a bit awkward.
We then asked to check in. We were told no we were in the Kingsclub??
Walked over to separate building which has none of charm of the Kingsmill. Where you eat breakfast in the middle of the reception room and no bar.
When I explained I had booked a pre paid for a specific type room in the main hotel, I was told it was booked. Not sure how that is possible given I had prepaid and booked!
Whilst the room was modern and nice, the patio is facing a public pathway and main road. Not what we ordered and felt no privacy and Unable to enjoy the garden we paid for. Also the recommendation of crossing the car park in the complimentary dressing gowns to go to the pool was not appealing and therefore I felt unable to use those facilities.
Had dinner in the restaurant, the staff work very hard, but understaffed. We waited a while to order, but food was good.

I stayed with my family at the Inverness Kingsmill hotel over the Christmas period. The hotel itself is situated in a great location for access to Inverness town centre. Although the carpark is relatively small for the size of the hotel, we always found a parking space.
The restaurant served ok quality food with the dame standard of service, every time we dinned in the restaurant we had to ask multiple times for things such as; our drinks order, a high chair and condiments.
The rooms were cleaned to an acceptable standard however, our mugs and glasses were not replenished at all after the first night. The bedsheets had holes in and stains.
Christmas lunch was wonderful however the employed table side magician visited every table in the restaurant apart from ours. May I add that we were the only mixed ethnicity table in that section of the restaurant.
We received many unpleasant looks, whispers and blatant disrespect from some of the other hotel residents, predominantly elderly white couples. I also witnessed the same exact things happen to other mixed ethnic guest.
Overall it was an ok stay but the subtle racism and lack of attention spoiled our experience.

Response from Senior Management Team, General Manager at Kingsmills Hotel
Responded 28 Dec 2024
Hello Amber, We are thrilled your Christmas Lunch was wonderful! Regarding the housekeeping service over the Holidays, we did provide details that the service would be limited on both Christmas day and Boxing Day but to let us know if you wanted a full service and we would be happy to do so. We use a linen company with fresh daily deliveries and do not accept any stained or ripped sheets, these are put into a ‘reject’ hamper to which we receive credit, so am very disappointed if this was truly the case in your room. Apologies the magician missed your table, we did have over 300+ guests in for Christmas Lunch and I would be very surprised if he had made it to every single table. Did you have children with you as I think they were his priority. The ‘subtle racism’ comments are the most concerning but acknowledge this is not directed towards any hotel staff as we pride ourselves on our own team diversity and inclusiveness. I have been with the hotel and in the Highland going on three years now and have never witnessed or been reported the sort of treatment you describe form other guests either. Sincere apologies if this was the case as we expect all our guests to treat each other with the same respect they would want in return. Also, with it being Christmas you would think the spirit and vibe would be at its best this time of year.

First the best bits, the rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, the staff were warm and friendly as well as efficient and helpful. The hotel obviously has a superb chef we dined on the first night from the Vegan menu and the food was delicious and inventive. The hotel boasts a four star rating incorporating a spa facility, ample parking and located just a short drive or even walk from Inverness city centre. The only quibbles I have are minor issues that should not be hard to fix. Firstly the video walk through shows the room being furnished with dressing gowns - These were absent on the first two nights. There was no drinking water in the rooms which even lower rated hotels provide. The tea making facilities in the room were similar to what you would expect in a travel lodge, mediocre tea and coffee brands which seems a little penny pinching to say the least. The other issue was a lack of literature in the room, the only way to access information is to be in possession of a smart phone and scanning a QR code. Which is fine if you want or like smart phones but useless to any other guest. Not being part of the herd is not taken into account. Minor irritations which only slightly detracts from a very pleasant and comfortable stay.

Again, I have to agree with the other observations; there was absolutely no evidence of doggy smells. I am a dog owner and we did have our Westie with us, but like previous comments, I wouldn’t have wanted a doggy smell in our room. The cleanliness is excellent, you need not worry, they are lovely rooms. Go and enjoy!
Yes, I’m sure you can. We actually changed our mind and moved to the bar area from dining room without any problem one evening. They put their hotel guests happiness first - honestly !
There are more places to choose from in the Inverness area.
