Reception staff was very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, our twin room was quite cold and the bathroom absolutely freezing. The only heating for both rooms was one small electric radiator. We asked for extra blankets which we received immediately.
The dinner experience was not very pleasant. Only five main courses to chose from, one was not available. Food was average at most. Our glasses were cleared away during the main course, and we were presented with the bill immediately after dessert, without having asked for it. We would have liked to order coffee but were not given the opportunity. This put a damper on our visit.

Good afternoon Nallaanil Thank you for your feedback. I am pleased the team were able to get your blankets swiftly. The North of Scotland has some extremely cold evenings. Your dining experience was our Table d'Hote menu, which consists of 4 starters, 4 mains and 4 desserts. I am sorry to read that your waiter removed your glasses early than would be expected and that coffee or tea was not then offered. I will make sure I discuss this with the team moving forward.

We visit Invesness on a regular basis, and have often wondered what it would be like to stay at the Columba for a few nights. This year we took the plunge and booked an Executive Double Room With River View. We decided to pay a little more for the view, but that was a good decision because the views were great, and it looked like most rooms had no view at all. Overall, we enjoyed the stay; the room was in the eves of the hotel and was quite quirky and characterful - just what we had hoped for really. We had great views of the castle, river, and the town itself. The staff were great, very helpful and informative, and the location is as central as you'd want to be, with loads of good restraunts, walks etc. Parking was an issue (nearest street without a meter is a 10 minute walk) though the hotel does swap local parking receipts for a £5 voucher in the bar if you use the car park they recommend. The only problem here is that the bar is sole-less and the choice of draught beers is poor. We had breakfast included in the deal, but I'd have to say it was bit hit and miss. We had 1 good breakfast, 1 bad breakfast and 1 inbetween. The main issue is that the hot buffet food was often put out and left for hours, meaning it got dried out and/or very greasy. If you were having a continental then the cakes & croissants were also dried out and scarce to boot. That said, we always managed to eat something 😀. My final gripe was the shower in our room. It was fitted to the old style bath and had one of those stupid wrap-around curtains. You couldn't move but it stuck to you and it made showering such a pain that we stopped using the shower and had a bath instead. All in all, we thought the place was good value for money, and we're glad we tried it. Not too sure we'll go back though.

Myself and my partner have recently stayed in this hotel for an overnight stay after lock down restrictions were eased. The hotel is following strict hygiene measures and a mask is to be worn at all times which made us feel safe. We were given a nice, spacious room on the 3rd floor over looking the River Ness and Inverness Castle which was stunning. The room itself could do with a few cosmetic touch ups but this didn’t interrupt our stay. The bar downstairs was great with a good terrace outside to sit at or spaced out seating indoors. Staff were attentive whilst wearing the full PPE and took our details for contact tracing. Breakfast in the morning do with more choice as simple cooked breakfast was provided or a box of cereal served to your table during the correct guidance. However choice would have been good such as some fresh fruits or bakery goods for those who didn’t want a cooked breakfast. Overall I would return to this hotel again for a clean, comfortable overnights stay in a great location!

We recently booked the Columba with an offer of welcome drink voucher and 15% discount off food very pleased with room Went down for Dinner at 7.00 given bar menu with good choice service was slow ordered gin and tonics served in slim jims and not big goblets no lemon asked about wine no wine list barmen didnt know the price of a bottle would have to check the till to get price never came back so just ordered bottle of Sauvignon Blanc just sold the last bottle finished up with Chardonnay. Eventually ordered dinner No soup had run out without going in too great detail the food we did order was bland tasteless &small portions Wetherspoons serve better food and thats saying something. Breakfast was even worse seated at a table served Tea & Coffee and toast no milk no butter after about 15 minutes order taken for main course another 15 minutes breakfast arrived with wrong order sent back for a fried egg 30 minutes later my breakfast came back (30 minutes to fry an egg) !!!the quality of the bacon and sausages was disgusting NOT 4 star standard while we were waiting other tables were complaining about the service they also ran out of orange juice and milk The food and service was about 20 years out of date We realise that we are in difficult times and lots of the staff need retraining to comply but no excuse for serving inferior low quality food We did mention to reception about the food and service and told they would be having a meeting later to discuss the points.

After some nights in 3 star accomodation in both Oban and Portree, which were both top notch, we were so looking forward to ending our staycation in the 4* Columba.
What a disappointment!
We arrived early so had a drink and sandwich in the bar. Barmaid was very friendly and chatty.
I booked an executive room. The room size was good and the room was clean, but a bit dated. Comfortable bed. Promised toiletries were two hotel sized bottles of shower gel. Rooms are not serviced during your stay, fair enough at this current time, but if I had been relying on the hotel toiletry allocation it was never going to work. Tiling in the bathroom was shoddy and the untiled walls were done in lining paper which were badly water stained, see picture. There was a free standing electric fan in the room but it didn't work.
And then there was the view... I realise we didn't book a river view but for an executive room it was awful! See picture, blurred bits are bird poo! You can see the bottle bins which were topped up after 11 at night and emptied by the bin men at 7am the next morning.
We arrived in the bar at 7 for a pre dinner drink to discover the bar was where meals were being served. Sat a table which was labelled 'cleaned and ready for use' only to be immediately moved to 'our table', 2 away from where we were! Waited 10 minutes for a drink but only waited 1 for the waiter to ask for payment for the drinks with his card machine. My husband asked for a side of chips with his meal and again, the waiter appeared with his card machine for the £3 surcharge. We were guests and they had our card details from the booking, so felt this all totally unnecessary and untrustworthy. The food and drink bill could have been settled at the end of the evening or our stay as seems to be the norm elsewhere. Food was basic but good.
We didn't get up for breakfast as the latest time offered was 8.30, too early for us I'm afraid, so I cant comment on quality. I found out later, they offer a breakfast collection to take back to your room but this wasn't mentioned at any time despite me saying we probably wouldn't have breakfast because of the time slot available.
So rather than another night of the same, we left. Inverness was supposed to be our chill out days after driving around the north west of Scotland and tbh, we didn't feel chilled out in the Columba so checked out and drove home.
I honestly cannot see how this hotel is classed as 4*, definitely would not recommend or go back.

Stayed here for two nights with three double rooms all on the second floor. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and hard working and there were plenty on duty at both breakfast and for the one night we had an evening meal in the hotel restaurant.

Due to corona arrangements, the buffet breakfast has been replaced with table service and as such you are required to order the night before by completing a tick box form for each guest. Although some may find this restrictive, it worked very well and the breakfasts were well cooked and everything as per our order. As soon as we were sat at our table, a waitress came over and we had our drinks within a few minutes and our cooked breakfasts a few minutes after that. On both days we were served by Caroline and she was very efficient and friendly.

For our evening meal we were served by Adele who was excellent in terms of service as well as her local knowledge of where we might visit during our stay! One of our party is vegetarian and we asked if she could change one of the starters on the set menu. This was done with the minimum of fuss and Adele also offered to change the main course which we also accepted. The food was well cooked, tasty and all our party enjoyed it.

The hotel is well located right in the heart of the city overlooking the river. Car parking is a short walk away at a council owned site and is charged at £5 for 24 hours. Our bedrooms were clean and comfortable with adjustable temperature. The rest of the hotel is a little bit dated in some areas and the lounge on the first floor is out of action due to social distancing requirements. During our stay all the staff seemed focussed on following procedures with evidence of regular cleaning and sanitisation, particularly in the restaurant.

Overall we were completely satisfied. It was excellent value for what we paid and we would definitely return.

Me and my girlfriend booked two nights here for new years eve and new years day. On new years eve there was one member of staff at the downstairs bar and took 40 mins to get served. There was also no room service as the receptionist said they were understaffed. Then onto the current day new years day we were going to order some food to the room and were told on phoning that most of the menu was not available very very poor for the price you pay to stay here over the festive period.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry your experience in the bar was not up to our usual standard. We did have 2 people n the bar at most times, perhaps one was away changing a barrel or restocking due to us being exceptionally busy at the time. As I am sure you can appreciate New Years Eve is a busy night and whilst we were adequately staffed in all areas, there was a peak period where we did suffer an extreme rush in food and beverage sales due to the neigbouring music event and many items on our menu were simply cleaned out. I apologise for this and do hope to see you again.

We came to Inverness for a weekend break and were very happy with our choice of hotel. The location is perfect, right on the riverside with stunning views of Inverness Castle, minutes away from the town centre. Parking is available at the Cathedral, about 200 yards away and is very affordable. Our room was scrupulously clean, the bed and pillows very comfortable. WiFi is free and the connection speed good. The television has built in Netflix and Now and Amazon Prime are also available if you have an account. The rainfall shower is lovely and the water hot and plentiful. Staff are friendly and helpful, common areas immaculate and good Covid hygiene practices are in place. We’ll definitely stay here on any future visits to Inverness.

This hotel is probable one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in, despite its beautiful location.

Having paid extra for a river view the room had no drawer space, a television blocking the lower half of the mirror, made sitting down to use the mirror impossible and a hot towel rail over the toilet very difficult to reach.

Despite staying for 7 nights and twice requesting for the room to be cleaned all we got was fresh bedding. Neither the used mugs, or towels were replaced. nor bin emptied, bathroom cleaned etc. By the end of the holiday this all felt very unpleasant.

We booked dinner for one evening only to discover that, as private guests and not part of the large American overnight coach parties who took priority, we were required to eat in the bar. This meant, being the only people eating there, we were seated in the middle of the large bar area and had the pleasure of 'Top Gear' blasting at us throughout our meal. We had not been warned when we booked a table for 8pm that the kitchen closes at 8.30pm, so as we did not wish to choose a dessert before our main course, were unable to have a dessert at all. The menu was largely unavailable by this time and we were served a chicken dish the chef concocted for us, which was not what we would have wished to eat and had the feel of items left over!
To add to this the bar was unable to serve White Wine by the glass!

Overall we got the distinct impression that service for private guests was sacrificed for the numerous coach parties that passed through daily.

Although 24hr reception desk is available, it is frequently unstaffed.

We have the impression that there is something going wrong, either with the hotel management or that of the Parent Company and feel that we certainly did not get value for the money we paid to stay at the Columba

The hotel is a bit dated but functional.

The windows are in need of repair on the outside but this would be a major task as many of the windows face the river and the road would probably have to be closed. Only 1 of three windows had a catch to enable fresh air to enter. A fan was provided but did not really resolve the situation.

The room itself was large and comfortable with a toilet and a good shower area and a reasonable supply of storage areas.

Breakfast had to be ordered beforehand with an option of have the same provision every day. Everything was brought to the table. This was adequate but lacked a selection of teas (reasonable in the circumstances.

The location was very good, right next to the river with a very good view of the castle. It was also near to many restaurants.
We enjoyed our stay and will return in the future.

Best thing of all - the staff and their willingness to make our trip enjoyable.

For one of the floors the lift kind of stops between floors and then there are doors and stairs. Best to ask for an accessible room if stairs will be a problem.
