Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We really liked the Bluebell House. This B&B was very clean and a lot of thought was put into the decor. Kenny was a kind host and he put up a very nice breakfast. It's in a great location only a few blocks from the center of Inverness.

The Bluebell House is the epitome of what every bed and breakfast should be. The room was beautifully furnished, the breakfasts were delectable and the host most gracious. Make sure to start your breakfast with a delicious bowl of porridge that comes with a special treat.

Bluebell House is a B&B with only a few rooms, but it's a well run, tight ship. Kenny, the host, was a hotelier and he knows what he's doing. The Ness River is a beautiful walk close by, which Kenny suggested when I arrived - he's helpful and proactive about what to do and see. The house is in a very good location, downtown on the quieter side of the river, but only a few blocks walk from it. It has its own free parking. The place is exuberantly Victorian, but in good upkeep. Like every Scottish proprietor I encountered, Kenny was friendly (to the point of garrulous, so take note if you're not an extrovert like me) and helpful. Breakfast was good and made to order, with a few options (mostly the traditional eggs and smoked meat with some twists). Most rooms are up a flight of stairs, there may be one on the ground floor. There were no problems, as long as you are fine with being in a B&B instead of a hotel. As with all B&Bs, it’s run with limited staff, and since Kenny is taking care of everyone's breakfast, for example, you schedule when you're eating the night before. If you prefer to be impromptu and on demand, a hotel is better for you. But if you prefer the extra sociability of a B&B this is a well-run option.

What a great stay! We only stayed 1 night on our journey through Scotland, but host Kenny was so welcoming! The rooms were comfortable and everyone was different. Breakfast orders were out in the night before, and ready when we came down in the morning. Kenny does everything himself and still takes the time to talk to you, make sure you are comfortable and have a great experience. I would absolutely stay at the Bluebell house again! Thanks Kenny!

Kenny was absolutely fantastic. He made the experience fun and the little touches that he adds to the room make the stay that much more enjoyable. Walking distance from the city center. I would love to stay here again.

Had an overnight stay here, the host Kenny was amazing, the service was excellent, the room we had was cosy and comfortable including the bed which gave us a great night's sleep. Tea, coffee, drinking chocolate, bottled water and biscuits were provided plus toiletries. The breakfast was excellent, we would gladly stay here again.

AFTER OUR DEPARTURE, the owner made an unauthorized charge of $228 for "damages to the dresser." The booking cost was $170 for our one night stay. Upon our protest, the owner could not provide ANY evidence that we caused damage. By any measure, his having waited until after our departure in making an unauthorized charge was an act of indecency. Our card company has credited the charge, but the owner still has been paid. In our several decades of travei, we have never experienced such treatment by a so called "hospitality business" who views its customers as targets.

Response from Coinneach Macmillan, Owner at Bluebell House
Responded 12 Feb 2023
Unfortunately the guests placed a very heavy case on the mahogany dressing table, and instead of lifting it off, dragged it, gouging out four deep lines into the wood. I tried to contact the guests several times to no avail. Once I sent them a written explanation that the damage to the property would have to be paid for, they soon got in touch denying any responsibility. I forwarded photographic evidence to them which they also denied responsibility. I couldn’t get anyone to repair the damage for some time, and caused us embarrassment when having to explain to other guests using that room. It’s a shame that these guests, who I believe were business people just off a lengthy cruise wouldn’t accept responsibility for the damage that they caused, and offer to pay for it, so a charge was made to cover the cost of repair.

First thing to know is that the host does NOT live on site. The confirmation we received said guests must check in between 16:00 and 21:00. Nowhere does it say you need and appointment to check in. We arrived at 1850 and there was no one at the B&B. We ended up going to a neighbor to get help, who then called the host who showed up 10 minutes later. He then had the nerve to yell at my wife about going to the neighbor for help. He then stated we needed and appointment to check in and we didn't have one so he didn't know when we ere going to come. Needless to say, we were very taken back and tried to find another location but were unsuccessful, so we had to stay here. To the hosts credit he did apologize the next day and did give us a $40 refund

Response from Kenny Macmillan, Owner at Bluebell House
Responded 12 Feb 2023
It amuses me how people exaggerate situations. First of all I do live on the property, it is my home. The guest put a check in of 4pm, and when the guest hadn’t arrived by 7pm, I went across the road to the supermarket. Typically when I left the property, the guest arrived. I did not yell at anyone, and I certainly didn’t say that you needed an appointment to check in, how ridiculous is that!!! but I simply asked why they couldn’t have called me directly as my number was on their confirmation, instead of bothering my neighbors. They were irate, and after apologising profusely, I refunded the guest £40. I have never left the house since, till every guest has checked in.

We spent 2 nights at Bluebell House and were well taken care of by Kenny. He gave us excellent dinner suggestions and made reservations for us. The B&B is centrally located, a short walk from town and has its own dedicated parking lot. Our room was clean and comfortable and breakfast was tasty.
