Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I booked through a major booking site. I didn’t book breakfast although the guesthouse’s website still says it’s available. There is NO breakfast facility. I had a basic clean single room. En-suite facilities. Served it’s purpose. No frills.

I made a reservation at Park Hill GH through a major online site, but was so busy I did not read down six pages through all the fine print. Turns out this property does not allow after hours check in. You HAVE to check in from 2 to 6 PM. If not, you will be sleeping on the front lawn apparently. I was sightseeing at Dunnottar Castle and told the owner that I would not be able to come until 10 PM, and she told me that was not allowed. I asked her what happens if someone gets a flat and comes at 6:05 PM, and she told me that in years of working with guests that has NEVER happened. I almost fell over laughing. I suggested to her that she use a coded key box for guests coming in late, and she told me I was being rude and canceled my reservation (I did get my money back fortunately). This place also screens their reviews at other sites and allows only the five and four star reviews. My advice ... AVOID like the plague. The lady running this place with an iron fist is stuck back in the 1960s.

Park Hill B'n'(non)B, Inverness. With a small window looking out onto an astroturf path there are no distracting views Paying £90 cash (credit cards are not accepted) gives the place a tint of luxury and no receipt means that there is no annoying paperwork to deal with. Cash machines and a Post Office are but a few minutes walk away down the steps to town. No breakfast on offer is good for the figure and no off-road parking (there is a Pay-and-Display across the road) discourages the infernal combustion engine and so encourages a greener environment. We slept peacefully in a comfortable bed pushed up against a wall, although there was no room for bedside tables. Shelves above the bed are convenient to balance any possessions on (mind your head) and a stool makes a handy perch for the kettle we found on the floor. Teeny cups with no saucers maintain the "Less Is More" embelishments. The bathroom in the corner has a shower, loo, handbasin, towels, and plenty of H&C water. The tiny T.V. up on the wall is probably fine. We're booked into SpecSavers next week. Finding your way about a bigger room might have been confusing. This would be a nice place for a wealthy traveller who likes small doggies and enjoys 1970s nostalgia. Recommended. P.S. At no time was there the slightest suggestion of grumpiness. "Didn't you see the bell?" is a perfectly straightforward question.

always a delight to stay here! So central and handy to both bus and rail stations. I opt to walk the Market Brae Steps, but others may choose to get a taxi. The breakfasts are perfect for me. Ian was wonderful and so friendly. Everything about my stay there was seamless and easy. I travel from New Zealand and after a long haul flight and being up for 39 hours when I arrive, I feel very at home! I will happily book in again next year

It was a joy to stay there. Such a warm welcome and an immediate transfer to a ground floor room on learning of my wife's mobility problem. The room was spacious, warm and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent-even white pudding magically appeared on hearing of our particular liking ! Could not have asked for more -go there !!

We were greeted by Ann and Ian upon check-in. They were very lovely people. We stayed 3 nights, however, didn't spend a lot of time there as we had booked day tours to Skye and John O'Grouts which left out early from the nearby bus station. The room was very clean and tidy and honestly we got some really good sleep! We stayed in Room 3 on the third floor and could see the Military Tattoo fireworks display from our window! We didn't see Ann anymore after the first day, however, Ian was a pleasure to speak with every morning on our way out. He was so nice, he even packed us a sack lunch to take with us since we wouldn't be having breakfast there. The owner, Cherry, even followed up with us afterwards to make sure everything was fine during our stay. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. It was so comfy there. I hope to return someday! One caution though... there are a lot of stairs to go up with your luggage to get there from the bus station so call a cab! lol

Me an my brother stayed just for the night. Room. 3 on the first floor which is a twin room, with a toilet and shower just outside of the room. The accomodation was clean and tidy and was ideal for our needs. The breakfast was more than adequate and a good choice of cereals and fruit etc. The host was pleasant and friendly Thanks for an enjoyable but short stay.

The owner would not allow me to check in even though I had called the day before saying I may be after six and for him to call me if it was an issue. The day of check-in, I tried to explain that we had issues with the rental car that were out of our control and practically begged for him to stay a little longer to allow us to get there but he was extremely aggressive, yelled at me, acknowledged that we most likely would not be able to get a last minute hotel and it was clear that he didn't care if two women were stranded on the street in the foreign country. He hung up on me and refused to answer again. We had to drive five hours in the dark and rain and book another 300 pound hotel so that we would not be on the street. Now we have the hassle of making a claim with our credit card company. DO NOT BOOK HERE. This man has serious issues, does not care about customers, is uncommunicative, and is extremely aggressive & rude. I would strongly urge against staying somewhere that he oversees. **UPDATE** I wanted to respond and debunk the absolute brazen lies that the owner responded to my review with. 1. I said we would be in at 9 PM at the latest. NEVER "after 10 PM". That is absurd and a lie. 2. There was no screaming on my end. Also absurd and a lie. I was in a diner at the time of the call and could not "scream" even if I wanted to. I would have been kicked out. My phone call drew no attention whatsoever and nobody even gave me a second glance. I was upset and worried at the owner's rudeness and refusals because it meant me and my elderly mother would be stranded in the highlands with no place to stay, so I spoke in a firm voice to try to negotiate and impress upon him the importance of the situation. If that is what screaming is to this man, then he is also delusional. 3. He says in his (almost unintelligible) response that there are "no excuses" and "expedia" says so. I didn't use Expedia. And no booking confirmation I received said "no excuses." In fact, my email said to call ahead if we would be after six and arrangements could be made. That is exactly what I did. And I received no call back. This owner is irresponsible, does not care about paying customers, and has proved himself a blatant liar. Book at your own risk.

I stayed at this lovely house as it is 5 minutes from the rail station , where I had to catch the 07:55 back to Yorkshire . I had previously read reviews of this I now know as a little gem . I was greeted on entry where I advised the owner I would have to leave before the set breakfast time of 08:00 - 09:00 - no problem , the owner provided me with a "packup" to take on the train next morning. I stayed in room 5 which other reviewers have complained as small - what do they want for the money from a B+B in a city centre and close to all amenities .I have stayed in smaller rooms all around the country at more expense. Room 5 was spotlessly clean , warm and very quiet with on-suite shower / toilet . I had a desk with power point for my laptop . The TV is absolutely adequate for a room of this size . You can pay a bit more for a bland , further away chain hotel which I can guarantee you will have doors banging all night and its a bland breakfast of something left outside your door / reception. I always support local B+Bs so please come here if you are are a business traveller.
