Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited for 2 nights a family of 5 adults we stayed in the Eriska chalet. Parking is close to the chalet. Beautiful chalet, lovely and clean. You can see that the owners have thought about everything, it really is home from home. Nice walks in the local area. Just a pity we couldn’t stay longer!

We visited for 2 nights on our way north. The accommodation was immaculate and very comfortable. Very pleasant owner who was so welcoming. We slept incredibly well and bought an amazing seafood platter from the nearby loch leven seafood restaurant which we enjoyed on the patio with some nice wine. We took a 5 minute walk to the Corran ferry for a walk on the next peninsular. Amazing views. The cabins are great for dog owners with walks straight out from the site. A perfect break from the long drive north. We will be back.

Accommodations itself was fine. But the staff specially Pauline is very rude to us. She needs to be more considerate not a rude person. She’s dealing with different people from different part of the world and sometimes she’ll encounters some disappointments towards their clients/customers. Having said that, she doesn’t need to be rude & threatening us. By saying “ if you don’t comply/pay we will bring this in court” duh! we never said that we’ll not pay the extra fees and lastly “ Leave this premises now!!!!”(beast mode tone). As if we are not humans.

Response from Jim Drummond, Owner at Birchbrae Highland Lodges
Responded 1 Jun 2023
Interesting review, thanks for this. You booked two Lodges, each sleeping a maximum of 6 guests. You brought 18 guests. Totally illegal. You broke Health & Safety regulations, Fire Safety regulations, Insurance maximums, STL Licence regulations and several of our Terms and Conditions. These are all in place specifically for guest safety, regardless of where in the world our guests travel from. Then you checked out late from both Lodges and left one of the Lodges in a particular mess which required additional cleaning. We were glad that you paid for the additional Lodge, which you should have booked in the 1st place and the extras as it did save us having to use the legal system, which we would certainly have done in this instance, without hesitation.

A staff there was very intimidating, threatening and very rude, speaking to a guest like that was not necessary. She could have talk if not politely then professionally, cause the people she was dealing, talking was very calm and no time for her lash out. Will never recommend , we have travelled and rented an accommodations, hotels but was never treated like that.

Response from Jim Drummond, Owner at Birchbrae Highland Lodges
Responded 2 Jun 2023
This is the same stay that 967chatom reviewed yesterday. They seem keen to let people know about their flagrant abuse of our property. Cramming 18 people into 2 Lodges which sleep only 6 each, leaving a mess behind them and leaving late. Their actions were totally illegal, breaking Health & Safety regulations, Fire Safety regulations, Insurance maximums, STL Licensing Laws, and several of our own Terms and Conditions. Nothing to be proud of. Other accommodation providers should be very wary, we certainly won't welcome them back.

We found the lodge was very comfortable and very well equipped. Also spotlessly clean with crisp white bedding and fluffy towels. The lodges are conveniently located to explore the Glencoe and Fort William area. We had an amazing time. Will certainly book again.

We arrived on the 28th of February from Glasgow and can honestly say the place was beautiful, very clean & had everything that you would need. We stayed in Staffa and didn’t notify Jim & Pauline that any of us had a disability although get lucky we were put there as my son has autism, he liked that he had a bedroom to himself and a bathroom as he isn’t great with sharing spaces, the bathrooms were also very clean and well decorated so he settled in really quickly. Myself my 20 y/o 15 y/o & 4 y/o all visited for 3 days and can’t praise this place enough. My little girl had fun running around outside and loved the wee stream at the back of the lodge because she got to see loads of birds etc up close. Birchbrae sits at the foot of a large hill and we did attempt it, but the 4 year old wasn’t having after about 30 minutes but from what we seen It has the most beautiful views from up there. Pauline did come around on our second day and was just lovely, she advised us of some things near the area we could do & there is loads so you’d need about a week to properly explore. We would 100% come back & probably in the summer months to experience all of it. But if you’re looking for this place don’t hesitate as it was just perfect to get away from it all. Ps- take everything you need with you as the local shop is a co op and it’s not the best, it’s pretty overpriced and not within short walking distance. It’d be ideal if there was a wee shop next to the lodges or even on site as I’d rather the money spent went back into this beautiful place, also fluffy socks or slippers in the winter months for the lodge as the floors can be cold.

Just back today from Birchbrae Highland Lodges. The lodges were beautiful, roomy, well laid out, comfortable and stocked with everything you'd ever need. It was also scrupulously clean. Pauline the owner popped by to check that we were happy with everything, she is a lovely lady who gave us great advice on things to do in the area. The Lodges are set well back from the main road and are in a peaceful setting. There are bus stops on the main road that are fairly regular if you want to jump into Fort William (8 miles) and leave the car behind. There is also a small ferry which can take you across to Ardnamurchan.

What a gorgeous lodge. We went up as a family of 6 and 2 dogs. Seil Lodge is beautifully decorated and so clean! Plenty of space, all appliances worked really well, wi-fi was great (fast), shower was amazing (especially after a 12 hour drive up). We were greeted with a warm lodge- heating on. Dogs were greeted with water bowls, treats and blankets (so impressed, extra effort to make it dog friendly, it’s so lovely). Jim and Pauline were great at responding to all questions we had. They had some great recommendations with where to go and what to do. I honestly can’t recommend Jim and Pauline enough. So many little touches that made it feel like home from home. We had such a lovely family experience, lots of happy memories were made. We hope to come back again soon.

Birchbrae is doubly blessed as not only is it located between Glencoe/Ballachulish and An Gearasdan (Fort William), but the lodges are perched in a forested area on the side of a hill that has super views over the 'pinch-point' of Loch Linnhe where the Corran Ferry crosses (5 minute trip!) So much is within a short walk or drive. The lodges are superb - luxury accommodation, great for all types and sizes of parties and are more than a 'home away from home'; so much so we didn't want to leave and go home! Clean, modern, warm and spacious - and the customer service is exemplary and care for the guest is apparent. Super hosts. I rarely - if ever- give a 5-star review. This is one of those very rare times!

I would highly recommend the lodges. The owners have gone over and above to ensure that guests have a very comfortable stay. The location was fantastic. Gorgeous scenery and walks. Great value for money.
