Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On our walk from John o Groats to Lands End, Beechwood Lodge is, without doubt, one of the best places we have stayed. It is so comfortable, clean and dog friendly and the evening meal that Gunter cooked will live long in the memory. Absolutely delicious. We felt genuinely welcome and cared for. Thank-you!

Had a wonderful stay for two nights. Gunta was a wonderful hoste, very friendly and nothing was a problem. Our room was excellent and the bed was very comfortable. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a dog friendly stay in the Alness area.

Food really expensive. We were offered dinner of chicken leg with veg. It was really tasty but there was virtually no meat on the legs! That was £18. I asked for 1 croissant at breakfast and was charged £8.50 for it which was ridiculous. We asked for a breakdown of our bill to be sent to us by email and have still not received it. Pleasant otherwise but I suggest you skip breakfast and evening meal for cheaper options.

We are deeply disappointed with your review. As shown on our breakfast menu, the continental breakfast includes much more than a single croissant. Your choice to only have one croissant does not mean that it was all we offer for that price. The choice for an evening meal is a convenient option, as it avoids having to drive into town and you're able to relax and enjoy a home-cooked meal at home. Thank you

A gem of a place. Extremely clean and beautifully presented. A,quiet location off the beaten track but that's not a problem after a hard day cycling or walking because Gunta and her daughter are extremely good cooks and the evening meal was delicious.

A group of Irish bikers landed at Beechwood Lodge very hungry and very tired and Gunta made us an amazing steak dinner and we had the best night's sleep in beautiful rooms. By far, the best place we stayed on our trip - thanks!

My friend and I stayed at Beechwood Lodge for three nights in July. It was the perfect location for folks who want to visit Inverness and the local areas, but don’t want to feel crowded with the hustle and bustle and tourists in the city. Gunta was the perfect host. She was welcoming, generous, kind, helpful, and fun! The room was lovely, with twin beds, a private bathroom, and a wonderful view from the window. Gunta anticipates her guest’s every need! The amenities in the room were great, from the glassware and coffee, to the toiletries in the bathroom, it seemed like there wasn’t a detail she wasn’t thinking about. She even called to get us a last minute dinner reservation in town right after our arrival. The location was great as we were easily able to drive into Inverness and visit Tain to tour the Glenmorangie Distillery. I cannot wait to return as there are hikes and local spots we didn’t make it to this time, but hope to see on our next visit. I cannot recommend Beechwood Lodge enough! It’s fully worth of a 5 star rating!

Absolutely loved my stay at Beechwood Lodge. we went for the long weekend package which includes activities, breakfast and evening meals as well as your accommodation. We really needed a relaxing trip away and that’s exactly what we got, the bed was so comfy and we were able to bring our dog along. The food is incredible, with a great choice of breakfasts. Beechwood is located to lots of easy to reach locations in the highlands so you have your pick of beautiful places to visit. Because we wanted to relax we opted to visit Dornoch beach, Coco Mountain, Fortrose and Rosemarkie. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality Gunta. Love Karen, Barry and Holly x

My partner and I won a weekend away at this delightful lodge, and it more than exceeded our expectations! Gunta was very warm, welcoming and hospitable, so much so that it felt like we were staying with a friend rather than a host, which was lovely. Her two dogs and cat were also very sweet and well behaved, and we quickly felt at home :) The lodge is brilliantly located - you really are in such a peaceful location, and we felt it made a great base from which to explore. The air is fresh, and there is no sound of distant traffic etc; one really is at peace here and away from the hustle and bustle! The room itself was spacious, clean, and very comfortable, with all the amenities one would need: a big bed, TV with Netflix, a fridge (very handy), tea/coffee/biscuits, and many toiletries. We slept very well! The breakfasts were superb and there was lots of choice, and the portions meant that we never left feeling hungry before we set off to explore. As we were new to the area and had limited time, Gunta kindly created a GPS route for us so that we could take a road trip and visit key sites in the area and beyond, such as Dornoch, Dunrobin Castle, and Lairg. She also took us for a wonderful morning walk where we were able to discover the local woodland with her and her lovely dogs. These personal touches meant so much and she is very knowledgeable and passionate; we were able to explore without feeling like we needed to google everything! This was very kind of her and made our trip very memorable; I felt like I actually relaxed and switched-off from work, which I really needed. We would love to visit again (for longer!) and would highly recommend this lodge to anyone wishing to visit this part of Scotland; you will be treated so well and will definitely want to come back. There’s not enough words to describe how happy we are with our stay. We’re so grateful for every little attention to detail and for making us feel so welcome. The facilities were amazing, the room and en suite was absolutely spotless with lots of products to use. There was Netflix, kettle for teas and coffees, a small fridge, good size TV and lovely bedding. The bed was the best nights sleep I’ve had across our whole journey (NC500) as I suffer with a bad back and the bed was perfect, my friend also loved the bed too. Breakfast was perfectly cooked, a good selection of juice, toast, spreads, cereal also. Unfortunately we had to move on with our journey, but before we did we got to put a pin on the map to place where we’ve traveled from! We’ll definitely be going back, and we cannot thank you enough for having us. Such value for money too. Thank you! See you soon x

Had a 1 night stay recently on a last minute trip to the area. I am admittedly SUPER picky about where I will stay so booking last minute couldve been a bad idea, especially trying to find somewhere dog friendly. However....i have to say even if i had carefully planned where to stay in advance i could not of picked better than this lovely place. The owner was incredibly accommodating of our last minute booking and gave a warm welcome on arrival. The room, i think it was no.2, was spotless. A comfortable king size bed with a view over the burn that runs past, a desk space with treats and tea/ coffee and glasses/ wine glasses/ corkscrew provided and a full size fridge - which i thought showed a great understanding of what guests would want. The bathroom is bright and spacious with large shower and a plethora of towels, and full size selection of toiletries provided. Room was toasty warm with underfloor heating. Breakfast was plentiful and of a very good standard. Really felt that the owner was doing everything she could to make us feel welcome and comfortable which was lovely... felt very looked after. Would definately return if in the area. Didn't really explore Alnyss but it looks like a nice wee place. Handy with shops/ supermarkets nearby. A great find!
