Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My third stay for business and my number one choice for the area. The whole hotel is noticeably very clean, and when you stay in many hotels then this one sticks out as being spotless. The bedrooms are huge and the beds are very comfortable. The staff offer a great service and no request is an inconvenience. The night porter is fantastic (and hilarious). Very well stocked whisky bar. Great breakfast including gluten free options for me. We've hosted a business conference here in the past and the setting and service was brilliant, so would also recommend this service. (Some Scottish GF beer would be my only recommendation, especially now there are so many that everyone can drink)😉

We had the most amazing stay. I thought I had already done a review but I have not seen it yet so am doing one again. The staff were so friendly and efficient. The food was amazing with cooked to order breakfast which is so rarely seen now in hotels. The room was very comfortable with two comfortable chairs which you don’t get in most hotels. Spotlessly clean everywhere. Thank you so much from two happy Shetlanders.

My wife and I stayed in 'The Bothy' for 14 nights, visiting family based nearby. The Bothy is like a studio apartment, having the normal amenities of a room plus a small kitchenette area. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. For us, the restaurant is the heart of the hotel and it did not disappoint. We didn't plan to have all our evening meals in the restaurant but having sampled the menu, we couldn't tear ourselves away, except on one occasion to dine at the 'Orrin', which is also highly recommended. We took all our breakfasts in the hotel too which were glorious. From full Scottish to cereal and yoghurt. No horrible buffet crush here, it was all very civilised with table service. The staff are wonderful, being competent and efficient but with a lovely blend of friendliness and professionalism. They really are an incredible asset and they all added to the enjoyment of our stay. The hotel public areas are exquisitely styled and comfortable. The bar area is inundated with hundreds of whisky bottles in display cases, highlighting the important relationship between the hotel and the ubiquitous whiskey industry around. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already chosen to stay at The Mansefield next summer for our annual visit to see our family. Thanks Ella and Team. With much admiration, Tim and Rio

Superb customer service , everyone was relaxed , professional, very helpful, bar was superb and it just felt like Home. Breakfast was one of the best I can remember, wholesome and tasty. Rooms comfortable and the bed well both of us slept like logs, which is extremely unusual. Tv was excellent and large. My only slight criticism was the cupboard was a little small and we struggled to hang stuff. Overall excellent and we will return.

My husband and I have just arrived back home after a 2 night stay at this hotel and we cannot fault it at all. When we booked in we met Jackie at reception such a nice, warm, welcoming person, excellent customer service, good banter. She made us laugh and feel settled straight away. We were shown to our room by this very nice maid who showed us where things were in the apartment 330. I thought that was a nice touch that they actually had someone show you to your room. The room was spotless and it was in the renevated part of the hotel. We even had a Piano in our room. The restaurant was again spotless and the food was amazing and so were the staff, always making sure we were ok. We even watched one of the staff go outside the restaurant and dust down all the tables and chairs so there was no cobwebs or dirt on the seats for people sitting on and the tables were given a really good wipe. Just another special touch. I have never ever saw this done at any hotels we have stayed in the past and we have stayed in a lot of hotels. Big thank you to the restaurant staff and the maids for the hard work they do to make this such a nice hotel. The bar has an amazing display of whiskeys which are the owners personal collection wow! I have to thank Jackie for making our stay extra special and we look forward to seeing her again as we will be back. This woman has been with the company for 30 years. We also got the chance to met the owners who are down to earth people and they just want the best for their customers who stay in the hotel. I have to say well done to them for what they have accomplished…,you should be so proud of yourselves. Thank you so much and we will see you all soon….Ann & Alan

We stayed for 1 night while attending a 40th elsewhere, the staff were all friendly and welcoming. The room was modern, the rain shower looked the part but was lacking pressure and the room was very warm, unusual in Scotland 🤣 We stopped for a nightcap in the hotel bar when we came back from our evening and were welcomed and hosted by an excellent gentleman (night staff). It was great chatting about whisky and the local area with him, finishing out night perfectly, sorry we didn't get his name, but thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate your feedback and be assured they have been taken on board. During your stay, the area was experiencing a unusual heat spell which was out of our control, and due to this we have purchased fans available for the rooms on request. I will ensure your thanks if passed onto our lovely Porter, Myles, who over the years has shown what asset he is to our Company ensuring guest safety throughout the night, along with keeping customers entertained at the bar with his great knowledge. Thank you again!

The professionalism of all the staff is commendable. We had the pleasure of being hosted by Ella and her staff for my daughter and daughter n laws wedding on Saturday, every detail was seen too, even having them step in 11 hours before the wedding to provide various things when we were let down by another business. We can not recommend Ella and the hotel enough for any celebration you may be planning. Thank you.

We were in the Mansefield hotel for 5 nights, Sunday through Friday. It was wonderful. The service - all the people were polite and helpful, even when I asked questions that were probably obvious in Scotland, such as "how to turn on the heating" :). The room: The bed was a four-poster, very comfortable, not too soft as you get in many hotels. The room was good sized, with a fridge and large bathtub/shower. Large windows with shutters and curtains. Breakfast: we had breakfast at the hotel only once, when we needed to leave early. It is a hotel breakfast and priced accordingly, but you get your money's worth with large portions, a wide selection and freshly cooked food. Location: it is a two minute walk from the High Street. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel most days, we walked to the High Street and tried different places. We also enjoyed the Tesco (5 minutes away) and the Cooper park (10 minutes away). Despite its location it wasn't noisy and there wasn't a lot of traffic. Bar: we also enjoyed tasting some whisky in the hotel bar, they have a wide selection and very helpful servers. There is also beer on tap that you can take up to your room to drink in peace, very convenient. In short, the hotel made our stay comfortable and pleasant, and we highly recommend.
