The lodges have the potential to be lovely and I’m sure 30 years ago they were. Unfortunately they are now, faded, dated and downright grubby. What was even more disappointing is that absolutely no effort was made to improve first impressions. Any other place would prepare for guests arriving by cleaning a window and getting rid of old cobwebs. It was dirty and depressing and very much neglected. I would be ashamed of charging as much as they did and not providing clean and well maintained accommodation as these lodges are not cheap. Everything and I mean everything requires updating. These should not be rented out until they are.

The pictures don't do it justice but more frustratingly, the owners seem to deny all knowledge of the state of lodge 1A despite having been sent, and seen, the pictures in this review (they also don't signpost where it is, or answer the phone when you call to ask!!) Unfortunately due to data protection, booking.com can't use the screenshots of the call log on my phone, proving we made attempts to contact the owners, and as such they have held on to that and are refusing to refund anything and deny that the lodge is in an unfit state. There was fat in the grill tray from previous guests, used condom wrappers behind the bedside table, dog hairs all over the bedroom carpet (despite it being part of their policy that dogs aren't allowed in the bedrooms), the shower runs extremely hot and then freezing cold, according to the owner, this is incorrect! The pull-down blind on the bathroom window was black with mould and everywhere seemed decorated with cobwebs. The irony of unused hoover attachments being left in the wardrobe was the only thing that made me smile during our stay. It's honestly a great shame because with an ounce of attention to detail regarding the cleaning, it could be a really lovely, cosy lodge. Unfortunately, the ignorance and lack of accountability on the lodges' behalf has made sure that we won't return. Having spent time reading some of the negative reviews, I can completely see where they're coming from. Don't expect a call back from the lodge if you need assistance, or a clean space to spend the night!…

AVOID. Just booked for 3 nights for £260. Was from today. They took the money but then told us we can’t have a lodge as we booked under 24hrs. Lady was rude on the phone and did not offer any help. AVOID

Sadly, despite the lovely location and the undoubted potential for outstanding lodges, this stay was a complete rip off. A deficit in the standard of furnishings is one thing but a lack of cleanliness is unacceptable. However, in a class all of its own and worthy of special mention, is the bathmat. Clearly well past it's usable life some 10 or so years ago it seemed to be almost a living thing and we really just avoided it when getting washed-mindful always not to stand too close to it in case a toe was lost. As far as the beds go, and believe me however far it is it's not far enough, I have never tried to sleep on such an impossibly uncomfortable thing. It was even worse than a 'safe-house' Travelodge in which I stayed but didn't sleep some years ago. Despite there being an outdoor decking area there aren't any chairs or a table. I suspect that's because the prospect of all occupants of the lodge being in the same place at the same time would prove too much for the worn wood. As I said it could be very nice given it's location but short of demolishing the lodges and starting again I'm not sure how that could now be achieved. Expensive and really, really not worth it. And, they had the cheek to charge £5 per night for the dog. Frankly the dog had the best of it. At least he could sleep.…

Had a quick 2 night break here but lost 1/2 a day as we could not get checked in until 4pm, lodges are definately needing some attention, on arrival the front step had not been brushed and was covered in dirt and leaves, not a good first impression. Sofas very soft and from the 80's and were stained, glasses were not clean, Pillows have seen better days. All the lodges need bringing up to modern standards, not what we expected. Doubt we will be back, however the service from Mairi was excellent and the area is quiet for a soothing stay away from the smoke.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights and from when we arrived to when we left the service was excellent, friendly, helpful and efficient. Our room was lovely and cosy on a very cold and snowy weekend. Dinner was good and breakfast was varied and delicious nothing was too much trouble. We are looking forward to returning soon. Many thanks to Bryony in particular for helping out with the laptop!

This is a set of lodges firmly locked in 1980 s far as conmfort, equipment and insulation, the decks at front are rotten and no furniture, the electric is on a meter with pound coins, not bad location for travellers but could not even contemplate more than one night here. Beds and mattress so worn !!! worn out. I am sure the pink bathroom will come back into vogue but not before the lodges fully fall to bits.
