Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Lovely reception area, given quite a large key fob for our room ( no chance of losing that). We were part of a large group. Nice , clean bar area with good service. We had room 313 which was a large suite with names on the door of famous past guests. Large bathroom and on first impressions we were very impressed. However, it was all cold we tried to turn the radiator up but just wouldn’t get hot. The bed was so cold it felt damp and this was felt all night. We woke up so stiff from the cold and so tired and hadn’t slept because of the cold it just knocked the edge of what would have been a lovely stay. I appreciate it’s a very old building but the heating needs looked at for sure as even the corridors were so cold. Breakfast was lovely and plentiful, lots of good choices and staff around constantly cleaning tables and making sure everyone had tea and coffee. Unfortunately due to the temperature of the bedroom I don’t think I would stay here again. Good central location .

Hotel's Favourite
Our daughters wedding was 13th August and including guests we booked 13 standard rooms ranging from 1 - 3 night stays and had no complaints. Friends who had booked 1 night said they wished they’d booked 2 as staff were lovely and attentive. All staff far exceeded our expectations and big shout out to Gordon and Kyle who worked tirelessly to ensure all went smoothly. Bar/ waiting / cleaning staff were cheerful and helpful especially when we got lost a couple of times in the quaint corridors lol. All rooms were clean and equipped with kettle/tea/coffee/biscuits/ in cupboard under tv. There was a fan on the dressing table and a hairdryer in the drawer and plenty coat hangers and a stand for your bag/ suitcase. The help yourself buffet breakfast is second to none and had so much choice you could never go hungry. Tea and coffee pots are brought to your table. Perfect! 15 of us had a bar meal/drinks the night before the wedding and everyone enjoyed their food alongside the relaxed atmosphere. Following horrendous thunder and lightning out with The Salutations control there was extensive damage to a few rooms and this was attended to immediately as best they could alongside continuing to remain available to guests. We were there when this happened and it didn’t interfere with our break at all. So much so my husband and I have booked a 2 night stay this week to chill out. There was huge flooding all over the UK that weekend. This is the oldest hotel in Perth, which is why we love it and are looking forward to our return visit. We have stayed in other hotels in Perth over the years and The Salutation is our favourite.

Honestly a really good experience, better than expected for a 3 star hotel (tho it deserves better) the Wi Fi was really good, the service was amazing, the breakfast was really nice and the rooms were very nice. The place has a nice vibe to it and I would definitely go again

This hotel can certainly hold its head high with fantasic staff plus the food is best I have had in any hotel. Would thoroughly recommend a stay I know I will come again. We came on a mystery tour but was pleased about our destination.

My husband and I just spent 4 enjoyable nights Salutation Hotel. Perth. EVERY member of staff efficient, helpful and friendly. Receptionist welcoming and printed train times for our return journey. nothing was too much trouble. Yes, some TLC needed but for the price excellent. Will definitely be back

Stayed here last week on a Turkey and Tinsel 4 night break. The hotel has lots of character and charming features, the Adam restaurant is most impressive. The waiting staff did an incredible job, the service was first class, as was the choice and quality of the food, both at breakfast and dinner. Our rooms were warm, clean and we slept well in the comfortable beds. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and went about their duties in a cheerful manner. This break was excellent value, well done The Salutation for a most enjoyable stay. We will definitely be returning in the future.

After our last evening meal, being dealt with a barman dishing up part of our evening meal, linked to nothing more than a school meal, I was discussed to see him put our potatoes on our plate, using his gloved latex hand, instead of using his utensils. Not alll are latex tolerance guests can tolerate it, I am leftt with my wife having to seek medical condition. Will so much not returning.

Hotel looks inviting on photo, but the room I stayed in was small and dark. you could not see in the wardrobe even with all lights on. The curtain was ripped. Window view not pleasant. Meals were like school dinners, not hot, and rushed. How they were served left a lot to be desired, on one day, potatoes were put on the plate by a gloved hand instead of utensils. We had to make our own bed most days. Sitting area was cold, and noisy with football loud on a radio in the back ground. Drinks expensive. Don't think I will be back.

Stayed here for 3 nights dinner, bed and breakfast. Arrived just after 7.30pm. The Adams restaurant had finished early so I was offered dinner in Reid's Bar instead which was absolutely delightful. I highly recommend the salmon. For the other two nights, had dinner in the Adams Restaurant as arranged. This is described as a 'Carvery Style dinner', however it is not akin to a Toby Carvery per se. It is a set menu of 3-4 starters, mains, and desserts, with a single carvery style main as the lead item. Ham one night, chicken wrapped in bacon the following. Other than that, a fish based dish, a vegetarian/vegan option, and perhaps a pie. The limited menu changes each evening. The whole offering is unashamedly retro...old style soup, prawn Marie-Rose, lemon meringue pie etc. This is a hotel that knows its market. At 50 I might have been the youngest person in the dining room. Only one choice of potatoes per night. Potato dauphinoise or similar one night, boiled the next. Perhaps I missed out on roasties on the first night. No drinks menu; just a jug of water provided to table. I wished wine with my meal which was brought for me and which I paid for afterwards down in the bar. Food perfectly edible but not on anything like the same level as Reid's Bar. Breakfast is excellent with such a wide selection. However patience is required as the often elderly clientele will take some time to navigate the self service. Superior room clean. cosy with old style furnishings. Shower takes maybe a couple of minutes to warm up, presumably due to the lengthy distance hot water will have to travel when called upon. Central heating goes on and off, and was off during the night. However room retained the heat well. All in all, the Salutation Hotel offers a 'step back in time' experience, which is why I went there in the first place. Would certainly go back but on bed and breakfast only. The set evening meal offering appears very much geared towards retired coach parties. Reid's Bar and other plentiful nearby options are available. [Apologies if this review sounds a little ageist but am just candidly reporting as I found]. Tip: for anyone using Adams at this time of year, it is advisable to just go in at or shortly after the advertised start times for breakfast and dinner.
