Detailed Reviews
On the recommendation of a friend, my wife and I booked a spur of the moment 3 night break at the Green Park in late January. We were fortunate to get the last room available. Because it was the last room available, our room (6) was quite small, but beautifully appointed, pristine and had every possible fitting, including a trouser press, rare indeed noways. The bathroom was immaculate with a walk in shower with readily understandable controls excellent lighting enabling a shave without bloodshed, and a loo brush, now becoming uncommon. We also had splendid views of the garden and Loch Faskally.
This is, I think, the first hotel ever with which we could not fault anything. The interior decor and furnishings are immaculate, complementary coffee and cakes are set out every afternoon, and a choice of decanters of dry, medium or sweet sherries are laid out before dinner every evening, an empty glass immediately results in offers of second glasses.
Dinner is of fine dining quality. Service is slick but quietly unobtrusive, very friendly, and does not convey the common impression that guests are a tiresome, but necessary nuisance. Never did we feel that we had become invisible. Breakfast involves a mind-boggling array of choices from full fry-ups, umpteen fruits, and even gluten free porridge. Little touches like butter and marmalade in proper dishes make all the difference.
The gardens too, are immaculate dotted with metal works of art, and a magnificent carving out of the stump of a felled tree.
Reception staff, often members of the MacMenamie (proprietors) family so helpful and pleasant, will do anything to make a stay more pleasant than it already is.
We were so gobsmacked that, on checking out, we booked another 3 night stay for early March, and this time, we were offered a much larger room, still with views over the loch.

Dear David, Many thanks to the two of you for taking the plunge and joining us at Pitlochry and the Green Park. Your very kind review is far too generous, and is well above the call of duty ! Here Fred ( Allan ) is valiantly painting away on this, the fourth of his teaching breaks this year. How he produces paintings using what at first sight appear to be old bits of driftwood rather than actual brushes, still mystifies me. What it is to be talented - and to be so generous in sharing it. Thanks again for both you stay and review, and we look forward to welcoming you again next month. Best regards, Alistair

We invited friends to join us for a couple of nights and, having booked early enough, were lucky to get adjoining balcony rooms which, as usual, were immaculate, clean and welcoming. There was a bottle of fizz, chocs and a card for my birthday as well as milk in the fridge because on a previous occasion, I'd requested that instead of the wee milks. I'd completely forgotten, but it's just an instance of the hotel's commitment to detail.
The food was as great as we remembered, with multiple mouthwatering choices at all meals, enhanced by the never ending tea, coffee and home bakes available, plus the different sherries before dinner. Spotless tables beautifully laid out add to the overall enjoyment of the food and the chefs certainly work hard to cater for everyone, especially our gluten free friend who was most impressed.
The country dancing on Valentine's evening was well attended and much enjoyed by all ages with a mixture of reels and traditional dances like the waltzes. Something for everyone.
Pitlochry is just a few minutes walk away and with the hotel overlooking Loch Faskelly, the view with the hills beyond is stunning is any season.
The staff are just so lovely, serving everyone with enthusiasm and interest throughout our stay with nothing too much trouble for them. Obviously, the elderly owners who both passed away in 2019 are sadly missed, but they would be proud to know that their legacy continues.
Our friends will definitely return and, sadly will praise the Green Park to many others, making it even more difficult to book our favourite room!

Dear Strachanna2013, Many thanks for returning to us at Pitlochry and the Green Park, and for encouraging your friends to take the plunge - you will surely get your reward in heaven ! Donnie and his son did us proud on Saturday evening and it was nice to see their efforts rewarded, with so many people tripping the light fantastic on the dance floor. I would have willing joined in, but unfortunately the shrapnel in my knee - an old Boer War wound - was playing up. Your very generous comments about your time with us are very much appreciated, and they have been shared with everyone here. We look forward to welcoming both you and your friends again. Best regards, Alistair

We had previously booked The Green Park Hotel, but due to covid, it had to be cancelled. We eventually got around to actually getting there last week, and my goodness it was worth the wait.
Where to begin?
I have to firstly mention that the current covid restrictions were adhered to by all staff, and they courteously requested all guests do the same when not seated
The first thing you see are the grounds, sitting right on the shores of Loch Faskally. Immaculately maintained, with strategically placed seating with views of the Loch you could not even begin to describe. All the plants and trees are stunning but there is one tree in particular, a cedar tree with a bench beneath which has to be seen to be believed. It is stunning
On to the hotel. We cannot praise the staff highly enough. From the moment you enter the hotel, you are met with smiles from the reception staff, and are made to feel so welcome. A guided tour follows and you are shown to your room. We actually decided to extend our stay, and the hotel was able to accommodate us, albeit we had to change rooms, This was carried out with minimal effort as the staff saw to everything for us. Due to having stayed in different rooms within the space of a week, we are able to confirm that all rooms are of the highest standard and immaculate, so homely and welcoming. I took my own hair dryer, as I am well used to the lack of a good hair dryer in hotels. A message to all the ladies, don't bother, the hair dryers are brilliant.
Hats off to the chef, who provides top class fine dining food every day - be it breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The food was amazing, and made all the better by being seated in a stunning dining room.
We had various different waiting staff serve us, and every one without exception was so helpful and friendly. No matter what you ask it is no bother at all for them.
The hotel is in simply the best setting if you are a walker. There are many walks virtually on the doorstep, whether you are looking for a gentle meander or a more challenging hike. It is also only a few minutes walk to the centre of Pitlochry and to the salmon ladder, dam and the Visitor Centre.
I must mention as well that nothing is a barrier here. You are made so welcome whether you are 9 or 90, with children or with pets.
They also have a great selection of wines, beers and spirits if you fancy an evening in the bar or if the weather allows, outside in the beautiful grounds.
Another thing we noticed was the beautiful array of paintings and sculptures throughout the hotel.
We returned from our stay at The Green Park yesterday and loved it so much, we've just booked again. We noticed the vast majority of guests are those who return time and time again, and this speaks volumes of the genuine desire of all staff to please their guests.
Thank you so much to Alistair and the whole Green Park Team for a truly stunning staycation in bonnie Scotland and cannot wait to see you all again,

Dear lizziequinn1, Wow what a great review - I am now terrified of receiving our next one as by rights it will probably be a terrible one ! That said your kind comments are much appreciated by us all and give us a real lift. Here as the say in Scotland it is 'threatening' to be another nice day weather wise. We are on a great run at the moment and the putting green is getting great usage - covid distancing allowing. That said it is difficult to judge the correct two metres distance if you are running after your golf ball, as it disappears down the slope towards the loch. Serves you right for trying to aim too close to the edge of the main flower bed. We hope that you are able to enjoy this good spell as much as us and we look forward to welcoming you for your next visit. Best regards, Alistair

From our last review of the Green Park Hotel to the present, the hotel has done fantastically to maintain its very high standards while incorporating Covid measures.
We have been impressed by the cleanliness throughout, the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. The rooms are comfortable, well serviced and provisioned, some with lovely views over Loch Faskally.
The menu is excellent and varied with new dishes each day for dinner and a wide choice of items for continental and cooked breakfast. The food is freshly prepared, delicious and well presented. There is a good provision of diabetic and gluten free desserts and cakes.
Along with complimentary tea and coffee and fruit teas, both plain water and water with cut fruit are provided in cut glass tumblers.
The Green Park Hotel provides extra touches such as umbrellas and electric buggies.
The grounds are very well cared for with features of great interest such as sculptures of otters and a red deer stag.
Inside, art works including paintings of Scottish scenes are very pleasing. The hotel has taken time and trouble to highlight the work of many artists on display.
Thank you to the staff and management of the Green Park Hotel for making our stay and time with my parents so enjoyable.

Dear RangerRo, Great to have you and your folks back at the Green Park again and you will surely get your reward in heaven for such a generous review ! Your kind comments really are very much appreciated by us all. Here at the hotel I have just completed my major executive tasks for this morning. I have emptied the dog pooh bin and have restocked the scoop-the-poop dog bag container. With great power comes great responsibility. I think i'll have a well earned rest now before facing up to the next challenge - whatever it may be. We look forward to welcoming you all again to the Green Park and thansk again for all of your support. Best regards, Alistair

My friend and I greatly enjoyed a return visit to the Green Park Hotel this week. They have taken careful account of all the current safety advice, and have managed to incorporate procedures so successfully that they do not detract from the special experience that regular visitors have come to expect. The staff are always helpful, and the accommodation is spacious and elegant. The varied food selection is beautifully presented and features a good selection of local produce. Portions are generous, but guests who have a smaller appetite have no problem in their selection being adjusted to suit. I am so pleased that the Green Park have ben able to re-open safely and look forward to our planned visits next January and May (pandemic permitting!). Well done to all for continuing to provide an exceptional experience.

Dear Nina M, Great to have you back at the Green Park, and many thanks for going to the trouble of posting your very generous review. Much appreciated, and glad to read that you are happy with the covid-19 measures implemented so far. Here every day we are open is a day to celebrate, as it gets us that bit closer to a vaccine and the promised land ! I am willing to act as a guinea pig for as many possible vaccines as you like, and am willing to take my chances with any possible side effects. Any excuse for some time off. We look forward to welcoming you in 2021 and thanks again for your support. Best regards, Alistair

This hotel is ideal for the elderly and infirm - though there is nothing to stop others enjoying its excellent facilities as well. Every comfort and convenience has been thought of (a long-handled shoe horn!, a postbox in the foyer, gluten free alternatives to everything). There is a cruise ship feel, with plenty to do (books, artworks, jigsaws, binoculars to look over the loch, mobility scooters) without leaving the house and gardens (arranged into many little outdoor 'rooms' with tables and chairs), and dinner as well as breakfast included, as well as food and drink available throughout the afternoon and evening in the lounge.
We stayed in a room specially adapted for wheelchair access, with a wet room that has a bath as well as a shower, and a showering chair/commode. The room, which can be set up as a double or twin, also has an extra-large reclining chair as well as an ordinary armchair. Entry is direct from the car park, with doorstops to hold open the doors. The facilities could not be bettered.

Dear Caroline M, Many thanks from us all for choosing to try out the Green Park as a destination and delighted to read that your stay with us was a success. Room sixty one is our most 'disabled friendly' bedroom and bathroom, with particular emphasis on the bathroom facilities. Talking of room sixty one, I recently phoned Allardycke Healthcare to report a fault with the electric reclining armchair. They kindly asked me to check that I had it plugged in, thereby saving themselves a journey north from Dundee. Needless to say it wasn't plugged in. You now all have to promise not to tell Diane as I still haven't owned up yet ! Best regards, Alistair

My husband and I took a wrong turning and arrived in the car park of this beautiful hotel. On seeing guests having tea served outside in the seating area overlooking the lake I spoke to the lovely young waitress ( with sore foot). I explained we weren't guests but asked if we could possibly have a cuppa , she didn't hesitate and said yes where would we like to sit inside or outside ? We were curious to see inside hotel so went inside to reception and straight away felt welcomed. We left our details as per track and trace regulations and went through to comfortable seating area outside dining room. It was beautiful and what I tell my granddaughters , very posh lol. We enjoyed a tea and a coffee . We then went to reception to pay for them and were surprised to be told they were complimentary. We thanked them and asked if we could have a wander round the grounds as it was a glorious day . The grounds are really beautifully kept with loads of seating areas and the view over the Loch is stunning. I'm glad we took the wrong turn that day and hope the waitress with sore foot is on the mend

Dear Nannie_RGlasgow, Many thanks for going to the trouble of posting a review, and delighted to read that your husband's wrong turn turned out to be not such a bad manouvre in the end. The girl who served you is called Ida, and she has a sobering lesson to teach us all about the benefits ( or otherwise ) of exercise. For the first time in her life she went jogging, tripped and fell while still in sight of the hotel, breaking a bone in her foot. Now I'm not saying that exercise will necessarily result in a broken bone every time, but just think long and hard before you next done the Lycra. Thanks again for popping in to the Green Park. Best regards, Alistair

This was our third visit to this amazing hotel this year,
I submitted a previous review which rivalled War and Peace on the length so I shall do my best to curtail this one ( but probably won't succeed )
On this occasion we were actually doing a mini tour of the Highlands and as this is our all time favourite hotel in Scotland we saved the best until last.
However, due to a not so amazing experience at one of the hotels on our journey, we phoned the Green Park to see if they could accommodate us for an extra two nights. As anyone who visits this hotel knows, you really have to book well in advance so we were not hopeful.
The lady on reception was as always lovely and I don't know whether I or she was most surprised when she checked the register and found that they had received a cancellation for the two days we needed and as it was actually for the very room we were due to have, we were able to have the extra two days without even changing rooms. What are the chances?
After the previously mentioned not so pleasant experience elsewhere, when we arrived at The Green Park, we really couldn't wipe the smiles from our faces. Everyone is so genuinely welcoming
The cleanliness is superb and all covid restrictions adhered to without affecting the calm, relaxed atmosphere the hotel exudes.
Food was amazing as ever to the point where I actually almost asked to see the chef, so I could give him/her a rousing round of applause
Our room overlooked the beautiful Loch Faskally, which was ideal, however, we have stayed in various rooms throughout the hotel, and I can honestly say every single one has been beautiful
The hotel is ideally placed to access the many beautiful walks in Pitlochry however one day the rain was so heavy, we spent a lovely afternoon having lunch at the hotel, followed by coffee and cake (which is on offer free to guests all day ) and walking around the hotel, admiring the beautiful paintings and sculptures which adorn every room and corridor.
In a way I am sorry I did not ask members of staff their names, as I would love to mention them. However the issue is that every single member of staff you meet is kind, helpful and has a genuine desire to please. No matter how busy, they always find time to stop and chat, hence, I would have to mention them all and the review would be even lengthier:)
We are already booked for a further stay in December and cannot wait to see Alistair and the whole Green Park Team, as you all truly do make this beautiful hotel a really special place,
Thank you all again for another truly wonderful stay,
PS you are all doing a wonderful job keeping Alistair on his toes:):):):):):)

Dear lizziequinn1, Great to have the two of you back at the Green Park and wow - what a review ! I read your comments with a grwing smile on my face until i reached the sting in the tail. Keeping Aistair on his toes indeed. As someone as sensitive as you should have recognised, I am at a sensitive age in life and should not be working as hard as I do. I have mentioned this to both Diane and the rest of the girls, but to say that they don't agree could be described as the understatement of all time. They can be very unkind. We promise to soldier on regardless and we very much look forward to welcoming the two of you for your next visit. Best regards, Alistair

I can only repeat my praise in my earlier reviews that the GP is faultless in all repects - ever helpful staff, immaculate premises, rooms, surroundings and fine dining. The efforts made to maintain standards while keeping guests and staff safe amount to a logistic miracle. Even breakfast is as comprehensive as ever from full fry-up to buffet choices where dishes are ready prepared in individual bowls sealed with clingfilm, even Danish pastries all individually wrapped, to name but a few carefully thought out precautions.
My only disappointmant was that, despite on arrival it is made crystal clear that masks must be worn at all times within the premises except when eating and drinking, a minority (albeit small) of guests did not adhere to the mask requirement even when politely asked to do so. Very surprising because the clientele largely comprises elderly respectable people.
We will revisit soon in the hope that another lockdown is not imposed.

Dear 143davidh, Great to hear from you again, and delighted to read that your most recent stay was a success. We are continually tweeking our covid-19 measures, and any suggestions are welcomed with open arms. In fact some of our best ideas have come from either our guests or fellow staff. What we need to come up with is a ( sensitive ) system to identify to the general public, those of our guests who are exempt from mask waring. At the moment guests supply us with a letter of exemption, which we then keep with their correspondence. A badge of some sort might be the way forward, but not everybody seems comfortable with this. Watch this space for developments. Thanks again for your support, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Green Park again. Best regards, Alistair

Often “old fashioned” and “traditional” is used as a negative but at the Green Park this is a compliment of the highest order. Many family members have raved about the hotel but this was the first time my husband and I had stayed. Suffice to say I hope we are still coming in 20 or 30 years like many of the other guests too! I can see why this hotel achieves something many don’t in modern times- almost full occupancy all year round and a loyal and long serving staff. It is old school Scottish hospitality at its best- wonderful food, beautiful setting and, without exception, genuine friendly staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean, rooms and common areas extremely well appointed and lots of great touches like sherry before dinner and homemade shortbread and coffee post dinner. The tempting home baking in the afternoon was a treat too albeit completely unnecessary after their hearty and delicious breakfast (and in our case lunch as there on the WW2 film break).
Alistair and his team run a very tight ship and consistency of quality service is apparent with no one looking like they were new to the job or in need of training! The quality of the food and presentation was excellent and it truly is a gem.
We throughly enjoyed the WW2 film break too with a great tutor in Ian and a super friendly group to share the 4 days with. I would give it 6 stars if I could and from someone who is super fussy this is a high accolade!

Dear katie26, Many thanks for taking the plunge and joining us at the Green Park - and wow ! - what a review. We always set out to do our best, but you are really tempting fate granting us so many kind comments. Our next dinner service will no doubt rival the bold Basil and Fawlty Towers. Ian really does run a fascinating break and it only goes to show that 'fake news' is hardly a new inovation. We are lucky to have him and he is back for a second go from this Thursday, alongside Henry ( Howarth ) the Green Parks answer for all things to do with cryptic crosswords. Thanks again for being so generous and we look forward to welcoming all four of you again. Best regards, Alistair
